"Are you alright?" she felt the ground beneath her feet shake. Oh please, it should open and swallow her alive. Amy wiped her wet cheeks with her sleeve. Damn, what a day!
"What are you staring at?" she asked him coldly.
Jeff stood still as if not believing what he had seen. "Were you crying?"
She shook her head. "I was playing with pepper powder and it kind of got in my eye making it sting and the only way to get it off, was to cleanse my eyes by crying." She stopped and internally smacked her head. Was she becoming dumb, what kind of excuse on the whole planet was that? Feeling stupid, she got up and took off, leaving a bewildered Jeff watching after her.
"Pepper powder?" he asked no one softly and then a smile was carved on his face.
Amy quickly padded to her room. This day kept getting worse. The only good thing was when she flung her closet open noticed that almost half of her clothes were transferred. She picked up some notebooks that Helen might have missed and sneaked to the west wing.
As she expected the place was lit giving it a warm golden hue. she walked around eagerly opening doors, realizing that the game room was as good as new, the sauna was set, her bedroom in white was set and the backyard immediately behind the house had a barbecue and she couldn't help sending Helen imaginary kisses, the girl was really up the task.
Taking out her phone, she sent Lucy a text that they should have a sleepover that night only for Lucy to turn her down claiming that she had some important function in her family and she had to turn up. Well, she tried; she thought as she fell on the bed and bounced on it.
"Amy," she looked at the door of the room where Helen stood with an amused look.
Amy faked a frown. "What is so funny?" she asked sitting on the bed while her legs dangled freely.
Helen got in, one of her hands smoothing some lines on her uniform. "I came to ask if you'll be joining dinner in the main dining room or if you'll use the diner in the wing."
Amy twisted her mouth in an amusing manner that made Helen laugh. "Do you want me to get sick, how could you propose I have dinner with them?"
She moved aside a bit to make room for Helen to sit beside her. "Okay, tell me what you want and I'll get it right away." Amy raised her brow; she knew that Helen didn't come all the way there for that. Otherwise, she would have just called.
"You know if you want to say something you can just go straight to the point, I know you too well."
It was as if she had pressed the 'speak with no end button'. "Amy, I don't even know how you can stand that woman, you can't believe how many types of food she made us cook today, neglecting and finding faults with each one. I mean seriously we have the best cook in the country cooking and she still finds non-existent mistakes. Leave that alone, everything in the house is wrongly placed and we spent the whole evening re-arranging things, girl, everyone is just fed up if not for the handsome pay we earn, we did all have abandoned this job."
Amy closed her mouth by holding her lips together. "Geez, take this slow. Hmm," she scoffed. "You're worse than Lucy and I combined."
Helen only scoffed. "You think I am lying?" Amy chuckled softly, Helen, she thought, her shoulders shaking as she chuckled again. Then something caught her eye, she reached for the silver hairpin on Helen's dirty-blond hair. "Hey, leave that, it was expensive!" Helen slapped her hand that she retrieved immediately but an evil smile formed on her face. "What?"
"Who bought it for you, eh?" she elbowed her a bit.
Rolling her eyes, Helen moved away a bit. "You think you're the only one with a pretty face?"
Amy's curiosity was piqued now. "Tell me, who is the unlucky man?"
Helen only clicked her tongue. "Tell me what you want to eat; I should retire for the day."
"Okay, okay," she lifted her hands in surrender. "We'll see how the gossip demon in you will keep it for long, I want potatoes and vegetables."
As Helen left, Amy made her way to the balcony attached to her room and watched the stars. She was still contemplating whether to go to her bridge for the early hours of the night when a text popped into her phone. She brought the screen to her face and dark lines formed on her forehead. 'Meet me at Roberts' from an unknown number.
She texted back asking who the person was and her reply came soon. 'Come and you'll see.'
She sighed, anyway what was there to lose, after all, she knew Jeff had shadow bodyguards following her and besides she wanted to find something interesting in life too, which meant that she had to go and tell Helen not to bother to get dinner since she would be visiting a restaurant. Ugh, the way she was thinking of avoiding the center part of the house for a whole month. Great, now her plan was going haywire.
