Chapter 40: Welcome to the Grand Duke mansion (2):

Back to the story:

Since Damian stepped off the carriage, I've been watching the girl's every movement, hence I failed to notice that Damian was trembling in fear. The book described Lexi Olivia Ellis as a person who had her mother's personality but inherited her father's characteristics. She looked exactly like her father, just a miniature female version, the only difference was the eyes. Uncle Robert had dark brown eyes whereas Lexi had deep blue eyes like her mother. I remember that Lexi Olivia Ellis was the same age as Camilla. Which was why I always wondered how Damian would be so scared of a girl 3 years younger than him. I meant I get he would be traumatised by the pranks she pulled along with the original Camilla. But it was always a mystery to me. What exactly traumatised him? The book never really stated. So as the reader, you had to infer most of the time. Which is a bit annoying at times, but what can we do? Uhhh.

"Princess Camilla, Damian come over here," the grand duke ordered as he gestured for us to come next to him. What's with the change of address? He usually just calls me Camilla; this is a bit weird. I suppose I would have to get used to people calling me Princess. At this moment the grand duke was standing in front of his daughter, Damian and I were standing near the carriage still. "Princess Camilla, Damian this is my daughter I was talking about. Her name is Lexi Olivia Ellis. Princess, she's the same age as you," explained Uncle Robert, turning to Lexi he muttered "Lexi, this is Princess Camilla who'll be staying in our manor for a few weeks until later notified. And the person next to her is Damian. He is your new older brother so remember to treat him kindly. He will also be my heir,". Why do I feel like that might not be the best way to tell your child that you've adopted another child? Gosh, maybe this was one of the reasons that advocated Lexi's jealousy. At the first meeting, you already announced that your adopted child is your heir. Aiyo. Sure, is the best way to allow your two children to become enemies.

And at that moment this thought process was also going on in Lexi's head. She turned to me and cried, "Princess, welcome to my humble abroad. I hope you've got a good time here. As for the other person, nice to meet you. Hopefully, we never meet again,". Uncle Robert looked furious, and he wanted to say something, however, I interrupted him saying "Nice to meet you, Miss Ellis. Also don't bother calling me Princess. I haven't been officially given my title yet. Just call me Camilla,". Lexi looked at me and smiled muttering "Then please call me Lexi instead,". I nodded at her words and mentioned that she looked like her father. She smiled however her eyes looked quite sad. "If you don't mind me asking, what does your mother look like?" I asked, to be honest, I already knew what her parents looked like, but I needed to make sure that Lexi and Damian hit off at the right point otherwise Damian would suffer a lot when I'm gone. If he suffers then I'll suffer in the future.

Lexi looked at me curiously but muttered "Come inside I'll show you," I nodded and followed her inside whilst smiling at a gobsmacked Grand Duke. What's with his expression? Perhaps he was a bit frustrated since Lexi never showed him any gentleness in his whole life, yet she was showing me a stranger's gentleness. Damian followed behind me even though Lexi was glaring at him. As soon as we all entered the manor, the door shut, and Lexi turned around and grabbed my hand. "Princess..." she began however, I looked at her and she immediately muttered "C... Camilla, I forgot to mention but these two maids will be looking after you in the time you are here. " The person to the left was the head maid and the person to the right was a young Brunnett lady dressed in the same black and white uniform. I nodded my head at them and muttered a hello. "Right now, that's done. Come with me and I'll show you what my mother looks like,". I nodded but turned my head towards Damian. Uncle Robert seemed to have understood what I meant because he quickly told me to go with Lexi and that he would deal with Damian.

Damian POV:

Just like last time, both of them are still friends.

Is everything going to turn out like last time?

Why is my heart feeling so...

What is this feeling?

Ah, I'm back in my old room again.

This place is still the same as I remember.
