Chapter 41: The late Kathleen Griffin:

I ran back to Lexi who was slowly walking along the corridor waiting for me. "Camilla, next time don't run. It's unladylike," she advised. Oh gosh, I forgot about that. Now that we're back in the capital there must be a lot for me to worry about. One of them would be etiquette. I nodded my head at her advice. We walked for a long time through many corridors until we reached a room on the ground floor. It was quite a quiet time as there was no conversation going on. The maids who were following us opened the door and waited until we were inside before they closed the door.

Inside this room seems to be filled with pictures of the Ellis family. I recognised the late Kathleen Griffin at once because of the description in the book and also because of how pretty she was. Even in the picture, it looks like she was shining. She was pretty. She looked quite like Damian as well, no wonder Uncle Robert wanted to adopt him. "Which portrait's you mothers?" I asked turning to Lexi. She smiled and pointed at the one near the end. I walked up to that spot and noticed that the portraits were pained well, like some portraits found in an art gallery. Her white long hair shone perfectly along with her pink dress. Her hands were placed on her lap and her smile shone more perfectly than anything else. She also had the same red eyes as Damian. Who knows those two might be related, after all the book never specified who Damian's birth parents were. His parents abandoned him since young, and he was brought up by his adoptive parents until they couldn't afford to look after him and sent him to an orphanage. His adoptive parents would look after him in the future soon.

With this thought in mind, I looked at Lexi and muttered "Your mother is really pretty. She looks just like Damian. That's so coincidental,". She seemed to have looked offended that I said that, but she didn't voice out her opinion. Seeing as she didn't say anything, I decided to probe further. "Lexi, if you don't mind me asking, but what happened between you and your father?" I asked tentatively not at all looking at her. However, I heard one of her maids gasp in shock. Was this a topic that wasn't allowed to be mentioned? Oh, dear. Have I touched a bad wound? I noticed that Lexi was also feeling shocked because of her breathing. The room was so quiet you could hear a pin dropping. However, at the next moment, I heard her reply "why would you think me, and father had problems?". I looked at her and smiled well that's because I've read the book. It was the only thing that kept me alive these few years. But I can't say that. "Well, it's just a guess. And based on the rumours I've overheard,". Lexi laughed and muttered to her maids to tell them to prepare the tearoom, we will talk there. Once again, I followed Lexi around to the room in absolute silence.

Lexi POV:

OMG

How did she find out?

What if she tells others?

What should I do?

What's happening right now?

I can only play it cool.

I mean is it that obvious

*

Damian POV:

Some stuff has changed yet most are the same

I'm still given this room.

However, I have just come a few years early.

This mansion won't change much in the following years.

Hopefully this time I not only will be able to see Eveline but I will be able to save the Grand Duke.
