Chapter 46: How did it go?

This chapter is in Camilla's POV:

I was pacing up and down the hallway, as it's been so long since the grand duke went in. The maids saw me pacing up and down and even began to reassure me that nothing would happen. Well, who knows what might happen? At that moment the door opened. I muttered a short greeting and rushed towards Olivia's side.

I gently closed the door and asked "How did it go?" Lexi signed and at that moment I had prepared for the worst, however, I immediately smiled because she said "It went better than expected. We talked about a lot of stuff. I also got to know him better. Camilla, you were right. Father cared about me." When she said this sentence I noticed that her eyes were shining and she seemed a lot better.

We spent some more time talking about her feelings when we finally got into the most important part. "Camilla, father even explained why he allowed D..Damian to become heir instead of me," she whispered, whilst looking a bit down. "Do you want to be the heir?" I asked tentatively. She hurriedly whispered no many times as if she was also confirming with herself and me. She's lying. Even without the knowledge of the book I could tell she was lying. Her facial expressions are all scrunched up looking depressed not like how she was a minute ago.

To be honest, the law technically doesn't state that ladies aren't allowed to inherit their father's title given they don't have any brothers. It wasn't something common yet frowned at by those hypocrites. Lexi was the only daughter of her father and so she must've thought the title would've been hers. After all her father didn't have another child. Yet all of a sudden another boy arrives and is announced as their heir. Even I wouldn't like it. "Lexi, you must work hard to achieve what you want. Don't forget your dreams just because you are a girl. A person's gender is not something that identifies a person's capabilities," I explained. sadly even in the modern world some places on earth still have gender inequalities.

"Is it that obvious that I wanted to be the heir?" she whispered as I nodded without hesitating. "Lexi, you should think about it yourself whether or not you wish to become heir. If you do, then I'll gladly support you. If you don't, well I'm still your closest ally. If I ever become Queen, which is unlikely, the first rule I'd like to pass is equality between genders. Because although girls in the upper class have education yet is so different to the ones boys have. What I'm trying to say is that you should work hard for your goal and ignore whatever anyone says, as long as you don't have a guilty conscience. Even if you failed then at least you would be relieved that you've tried for the target," I explained. Actually, when I said this, I also had some selfish reasons. I didn't want Damian to become grand duke just in case everything still goes according to the novel. I don't want to die young without any accomplishments.

"Camilla, what you said is true. Let me have some time to think about it," muttered Lexi. I nodded and headed out of the room.

One of the maids on standby passed on the message that Uncle Robert wanted to say and I thanked her for doing so. The maid blushed and said it was her job. Sometimes kindness can go a long way. "Guys don't go inside and disturb Lexi unless it's something urgent. I think right now she would like some peace and quiet to collect her thoughts," I ordered as they all nodded.

I looked at the head maid and asked " Where's Damian's room?" She asked a maid to help there and I quickly left the corridor and Wales upstairs following the maid.
