Kit sat next to Gunner and waited. He wasn’t sure what Gunner was about to say, but he had to admit the man had grabbed Kit’s curiosity. He would also admit that it had warmed him when Gunner said he liked him and not his money or the idea that he had the body of Hercules. Gunner cleared his throat twice, and since normally the caretaker was confident, this unease added more intrigue to this situation. 


“Do you still want to tell me?” Kit asked when the silence stretched on and on. “I can go.”


“I ain't want ya to go,” Gunner said after he cleared his throat a third time. “Do ya remember when I told ya about Huck?”


“You said that the two of you wanted different things.” Kit recalled most of the conversations they had about their exes. “He moved on with his band. You said he’s kind of famous now.”
