Chapter 82: Moving out.

Gareth stood in his father’s library and stared blankly at the manicured lawns. It wasn’t lost on him that this was the exact same place he’d stood when his father told him he had to go to the mountains. He’d been so against the idea, but now the mountains were all he could think about… well, not the mountains, but a man that lived there.

Gareth turned around and watched his brother, sister, and father discussing clients. He wasn’t listening. He’d stopped paying attention an hour ago. He knew he couldn’t keep doing this. Something profound had changed in his life.

Taking his phone out of his pocket, he stared down at that text conversation between him and Rusty. Whenever he planned to tell Rusty that he would tell his family that he was gay, all that came out was one sentence. He would type ‘How are you?’ Message after message on the cell was Gareth asking that question, followed by Rusty typing Okay. That was it.

Gareth opened the text conversation.
