Chapter 35

"Here is your meal, mom sent it", Alicia said opening the food flask in front of Nathan.

"Help me", Nathan said to her showing her his bandaged hands and Alicia looked at him for a while before picking up the spoon to feed him.

"Are you comfortable", Alicia asked helping him lay on the bed after he was done eating.

"U hmm, Nathan nodded and looked around the room.

"Where will you sleep", he asked her

"I will sleep on the couch", she replied pointing to the couch in the corner of the room

"But won't it be uncomfortable", he asked looking at her

"I will be fine, you go to sleep", Alicia replied with a smile before going on to lay down on the couch, she fell asleep a while later.

In the middle of the night

"Boss", a man said respectfully from the other end of a phone

"Find out everything relating to the accident today including the driver of that truck, I want the reports tomorrow", Nathan ordered and hung up the call.

"Whoever planned that accident had murder in mind, who could so badly want to kill her. Is it Nari?", Nathan thought silently looking at the sleeping girl on the sofa.

.....

"Good morning", Alicia said to Nathan standing up from the sofa

"U hmm", Nathan nodded,

"Are you fine", she asked feeling his body temperature with her hand, but quickly retracted it and placed her hand on her chest.

"Why does my heart beat so fast when am near him",

she thought silently looking dreamily at the man on the bed.

"You are drooling", Nathan said

"What am not", Alicia said wiping her mouth

"Well you were about to", "the nurse already came to change the bandages and the drip", Nathan told her.

"You should go home", he told her while reading the newspapers in his hands

"That's not necessary I am fine", Alicia replied smiling at him

"My mom will be here soon you should go home and get changed and get some more sleep too. You look tired", he said raising his head to look at her.

"But..." Alicia wanted to say when he glared at her

"I am not a child that needs to be babysitted. My mom and Ryan will be here soon, so leave", Nathan said in a loud and annoyed voice

"Why is she so stubborn, she has to argue about everything"

"Okay, I will be back later", Alicia replied grumpily and left.

A few minutes later

"Good morning sir, how are you feeling today", Ryan greeted on entering the ward

"This man has a great immune system, he doesn't even look like someone that almost died yesterday" he thought silently adorning a smile on his face

Nathan glanced at him after hearing the greetings but didn't bother replying

"Madam called me on my way here that you were alone because you chased her home to get some rest so I came here as soon as I can", Ryan replied grinning

"How did she get your number", Nathan asked curiously

"Oh I gave it to her after you travelled, she was quite worried and wanted to know when you would be coming back", Ryan replied again

"Oh", Nathan said and continued what he was doing.

"Did Rocks send the reports I asked for", Nathan asked dropping the newspaper and removed his glasses.

"Yes Boss, he sent it this morning and you were right the accident was planned", Ryan said taking on a serious expression

"And that person wanted to kill madam not knowing you will end up being the one driving the car",

"Let me see the files", Nathan demanded and Ryan handed him some documents in a blue folder

"What happened to the car that morning", Nathan asked looking at the papers in his hands.

"The brakes were tampered with and the truck was pianned to hit the car at that intersection. It was planned murder", "And I am sure they wanted to kill Madam", Ryan reported

"Did you find the truck driver or the did police find him", Nathan asked darting a look at him

"No Sir, the accident happened at a blind spot so the driver's face is still unknown and that truck doesn't have a plate number, but the police are trying to trace it though", Ryan replied again getting confused by the whole situation. His madam is so sweet and nice who would want to harm her.

"Whoever is trying to harm her is in one way or another connected to Nari and her godfather I just have to find out how", Nathan said thinking deeply about what Nari had told him, turning to Ryan he said

"Thank Goodness she wasn't the one in the car that morning, I was able to recover from my shock and swerve the car in time but she wouldn't have had such a reflex and the truck would have collided into her head on"

"Tell Rocks and Jason to dispatch their men I want that truck driver found by them before the police does, the police will naturally give up once they can't find him. And you I want a background check of everyone around Alicia, whoever tampered with her car brakes is someone who is close to her and had access to her car".

"Alright sir I will get the details for you by tomorrow" Ryan replied respectfully

"You can leave now", Nathan said putting on his glasses and continued reading the newspapers.

"Sir Madam told me not to leave you till the Senior Madams come here. You must not be left alone", Ryan said looking at his boss. Nathan raised his head to look at him

"I am not a child and there are nurses here to look after him, and by the way I don't like looking at your face get out", Nathan said and looked back at the papers in his hand again.

"Humphh, I am trying to look out for him here and he is saying he doesn't like looking at my face, fine then take care of yourself", Ryan snorted and said to his boss barely containing his annoyance

"Sure Sir, I will be going to the office then", Nathan didn't bother replying him so he left.

"Nathan", Said Kisha on entering the ward with grandma Collins, Nathan turned to look at his mother and dropped the newspapers in his hand

"Mom, Grandma", he replied, Grandma Collins came near him and touched his forehead

"How are you my dear",

"I am fine now grandma", Nathan replied with a small smile.

"Where is Alicia" Kisha asked looking around the room

"I told her to go home and get a bath", Nathan replied

"Oh okay, we met secretary Ryan on our way up here", Kisha said setting the soup she had brought on the patient's table in front of him

"Yes mom he came to report some office matters to me", Nathan replied picking up the spoon

"Oh your father and grandfather will be here later today",

"Your grandfather has gone to the station to find out where the investigation has reached regarding the accident and your dad has gone to the office to handle the pressing matters in your absence", Grandma Collins said taking a seat beside the bed.

"To the police station", Nathan asked glancing at his grandma

"Yes my dear, how come they haven't found the truck driver yet its been almost twenty four hours", Kisha said getting irritated all over again

"They will find him mom, calm down", Nathan calmed his mom down and continued having his meal

"If grandpa hastens up the police they might find the truck driver before my men does, I have to stop him" Nathan thought silently.

The door opened and Alicia came in with Stacy

"Mom, grandma", she greeted while Stacy skipped to stand beside her brother and started crying

"Uuuuuhhhhhh", she was balling her eyes out and everyone in the room just stared at her in confusion, Nathan was the first to react then Alicia, Nathan dropped the spoon in his hand and wiped his sister's tears with an handkerchief while Alicia stood behind the crying girl

"What's wrong Stacy", Nathan asked wiping her tears

"There is a bandage on your head, your hand and your leg and there must be other injuries too, You must have been so hurt, uuuuuuhhhhhhh", Stacy said in between tears and started crying again.

"I am fine Stacy it was just an accident" it would have been better if Nathan hadn't said that because the moment he did Stacy cried harder

"What do you mean by just an accident, it was very critical the doctor said you might not have survived" the young Stacy yelled amidst tears and Nathan had no idea what to say again

"He is fine now Stacy please stop crying. He will be more careful in the future so don't be scared okay", Alicia calmed down the crying girl and hugged her and Stacy finally stopped crying.

"Please be more careful in the future brother you can't get injured again. Promise me you will be more careful", Stacy said and Nathan promised his little sister then continued his meal while Stacy and Alicia went to sit on the couch and chatted while laughing heartily and both the mothers just looked at them.
