18 - Fake divine beasts

Night came and with it the mutated creatures. I found it ironic how a sun god's divinity made the beasts act up in the night. It gave me several theories that I decided was worth testing out.

Mama Tay, Gerasmine and I had spent all the day planning out the events of that night.Ot felt surreal to act human after being a god for just a few days.

I watched as the elder ones shooed the children to safety and their livestock behind bars. My eyes found Mama Tay as her's found me a smile stretched across her lips as she made a bow before letting an older hunter guide her to safety.

Safety being a thick house fort of logs made all round with no opening. The earth was moved slightly by mana to let everyone in before it was shit back again.

From the various claws and marks on the logs it was apparent that this had been their mode of safety.

Still it begged a question. What was creatures driven insane by divinity seeming from the flesh of humans. While it felt like something normal it still didn't sound right.

My eyes accessed the little fort and them the statue at the base of the cliff before rising to lock on the one at the top.

"Say Gerasmine why are there two statues of you. ?" I asked without looking away.

She was standing by me her translucent skin having faded more, an effect from losing more faith. She was decked in the same outfit from head to toe but with a dark brown gauntlet and a round black shield in hand.

"The attacks usually came from there before kt changed to that direction. It was why we finally moved here to the lake." She stepped forward and looked up at the statue of herself.

My eyes ran from the bases of the statues to the lake and then around.

'The lake spanned a wide berth and the statues were set made properly to....'

A loud screech tore through the night air interruption my thoughts and disrupting the peace. Followed by a roar that sent birds running from tbe tree tops, I turned and looked my gaze at tbe tree line of the forest from which the creatures were bound to come from.

"Remember the plan?" I asked glancing to her.

"Yes" she replied with a nod.

Nodding I turned back and waited. We stood side by side and watched as dark forest trees swayed. The wind blew and insects chirped and croaked about.

The change was instant and well unexpected. The sounds hushed and the movements of even the wind stilled. I inhaled deeply my Minders Reach extending till.ot encompassed a long range.

Then I felt them. There was a huge number of them, not enough to form a horde but enough to know why it was a daily problem for Gerasmine.

Still it was my first official fight in this world, hell my first fight as a God. I had given Moira the ability to fight her battle and then let Carla grasp her fate.

Training all the day but yet for the first time I would actually battle.

[IS THIS A GOOD TIME TO ACTIVATE THE UNCOUNTABLE STEPS OF DISSONANCE?Y VOICE ASKED SUDDEN.LY.

'Indeed' I answered.

[SWORD TECHNIQUE - UNCOUNTABLE STEPS OF DISSONAMCE COMPREHENDING]

It wasn't anything entering my mind. But more of me digging out lost knowledge like I unearthed an ancient secret within my mind hidden away. The steps I took in my training and the forms imprinting in my mind and my bones. Like a spasm it flushed through my bones till it felt like a reflex.

It was there forever marked in me.

A howl rang as the first of the mutated beasts stepped out. It was anything but normal. At sic feet on it's four legs what once a direwolf now looked regal but decayed.

The skin shone a pale gold but it's furs looked shriveled ann fallen like someone had gone through it with a shaving knife taking patches of hair.

It looked sickly, a part of it muscular while another part lean and shrivelled like all life had been sucked from those parts. Next to it stepped out a huge crab. Or at least it looked like one.

On six feet it's red exoskeleton glowed like a setting sun lighting up the night more than the various torches and bonfire lit around and behind us.

It's pincers clipped dramatically like it could already imagine us between them. A howl left the first murders direwolf and like a storm the hidden crowd that had stayed beyond the trees flooded out like a wave of water.

Only this after was made of creatures of different sizes and types. From rats amd blood rabbits to nears and apes. Even big ass insects showed up to.rhe party.

[You Could End This With A Wave Of Your Hand.]

"And ruin the practice and the plan" I retorted then smiled at Gerasmine who looked at me confused.

"Ready up. " she warned looking ethereal and radiant as she focused forward.

[Cute]

"Focus"

[On?]

"Me"

[Why?"

"This is my first real.fight. Rate me " I growled out in self frustration.

[Oh Definitely].

Sighing I watched as the flood broke through the little walls that had been erected to separate the village from the forest and then in a tide crashed into us.

Gerasmine moved forward and with her shield braced for the impact. The crowd slammed into the shield and a force field erected in a straight line stomping all the beasts in their tracks while simultaneously pushing her back a couple of steps.

Ideas, ideas.

Smirking I moved. Longsword appearing in hand and a spatial rift shutting beside me the ground exploded into cracks as I shot forward and over Gerasmine.

-WIND SLASH-

I whispered the name just as I sliced tbe air and down. The visible arc of white wind sliced through the center of the crowd and spilled guts and blood everywhere with parts going up and down

[I Doubt Actual Divine Beasts Would Be This Easy To Kill Even For A God]

"Well I guess they are fake then" I muttered landing in a crouch before shooting forward and starting a mad dance of slashes that would gain me a name. Not like I knew though.
