Nice to meet you

——— 4 years after ———

"Dr. Amy Fitzgerald, we are here," said the petite, beautiful, and intelligent woman named Jen.

"Thanks, Jen; who do I have to speak to tonight? It's our commencement, after all. I want to thank everyone who helped us with our research," Amy asked her assistant as she fixed her gaze at the big banquet door and valets waiting for executives to give them the keys to their luxurious cars.

"We've already had private dinner with most directors, but there might be politicians and other private sponsors, actors, and actresses. I don't think you have to approach and thank them individually, though. I'll be next to you. So if there's someone you might not have met before, I'll let you know who they are," Jen assured Amy.

Jen knew that Amy was tired. For the last four years, she had been Amy's assistant. Jen saw how Amy worked hard to finish the research while doing complicated brain injuries. She tirelessly worked day and night to prove to most of his male superiors that she deserved her position. She even spoke at seminars and gatherings, even if she didn't have to.

"Thanks, Jen. I wouldn't have known how to survive here if it weren't for you. Your family must have hated me for keeping you away from them. The fact that you have moved from Japan to India and now Korea meant a lot to me. Thank you," Amy said with a tearful eye. Now that her time in Global Health Organization as a lead researcher is done, she might have to go back to country Q and figure out her career options.

Amy decided to dress in a Mid-Calf Square Neck Patchwork Dress. An Eve Madden white Velvet Ankle strap heel. Settling for a minimal natural look, Amy accessorized with a pearl necklace and a pair of pearl earrings. She tied her hair in a clean bun and picked a red lipstick, 'for a pop color,' she said, pleased at herself.

Unlike being in her regular doctor's outfit; scrub, close-toe sleepers, and messy hair, Amy was dressed elegantly today. Everyone looked at her in awe as she walked inside the ball.

Jen was right; Besides the directors, she is acquainted with, most people are private sponsors, young chaebols, actors, and actresses. She blushed when she saw Song Ji Kyo in attendance. 'I should get an autograph later. ' she thought to herself.

"Well, if this ain't Dr. Amy Fitzgerald herself," exclaimed a familiar voice she immediately recognized.

"Professor Neil! I'm so happy to see you here. When did you arrive?"

"I landed the day before yesterday. I just can't miss the opportunity to brag about my student finishing a medical research breakthrough, can I?" said professor Neil.

Amy was embarrassed but took the compliment. "It was a success because I was given a great team professor."

"Ahh, of course! Well…" professor Neil's tone suddenly changes, "this is my friend Dr. Cha. He is Korea's department head in GHO*. He overlooks every department. I believed you've met before?" Professor Neil directed Amy to look at the doctor.

"Yes. Yes, we did," Amy said, extending her hand for a handshake. "Nice to see you again, Dr. Cha."

Dr. Cha received Amy's handshake and spoke, "we met a few times, yes. That surgery you did with a 3-year-old was very exceptional. Everyone in the organization was impressed by how well the surgery went" Dr. Cha looked at Professor Neil.

"I know you've been considering returning to America and accepting Harvard's offer, but Dr. Cha here, well, I'll let him explain," Professor Neil said.

"I was really impressed when you did that operation. Not only was it a very surgically difficult case, but it was also very challenging given the client's age, yet you dominated that operation. I've been in this game longer than most people here, and skills like yours are hard to miss. Recently, the GHO's neurological chief position in Korea opened. And well, I contacted Professor Neil here and asked if we can convince you to take the job." Doctor Cha sighed.

"It's not as prestigious as being the head in Harvard; we all know that, but I firmly believe that GHO needs someone like you. Someone with the skills but open-minded enough to test and use new technologies, types of equipment, and techniques for the future of Neurology." Dr. Cha continued, trying his best to make Amy on board.

"You know why I think of you as one of my few favorite students?" Professor Neil interjected, "it's because you are very driven; you like being challenged and learning new things. You are young and passionate. And you do not let any emotional baggage hinder you from achieving your goal. You have a passion for medicine, Amy, and I believe this position is perfect for you." Professor Neil added.

"You will superhead Korea's GHO's neurology department. Cases that range from common to rare will be reported to you. You get to look closely at such cases and determine the best approach. And since you're part of GHO, you can have an access to their new theories, pieces of equipment, and research. You can do whatever surgery you feel you need to do and the same time overlook other surgeries giving other doctors the chance to be under your supervision."

"Sleep on it," Dr. Cha blurted. "You don't have to make a decision now. And whatever your decision may be, I know you'll do great. You're good, kid."

Amy thanked the gentlemen and told them she would think about it.

"Well, that was an intense conversation," Jen said, surprising Amy.

"One, I was not prepared," Amy said, rolling her eyes. "Enjoy your night Jen, don't worry about me. If someone approaches me, I'll tell them I got amnesia. They wouldn't get offended. I don't know their names, would they?" Amy smiled and walked away.

Amy's mood didn't change much; she was thinking about what Dr. Cha and Professor Neil said. She loved the offer. It was something she thought was very fulfilling than signing papers at Harvard. But truth be told, even though the last four years were a dream come true, it was also very draining. Yes, it was confirmed that her research would potentially save lives, but it took years of her youth.

It is easy for one doctor to say to another to just let it go and move on. But it was hard for Amy. She had saved lives in the operating room, but there were also lives she had lost. Sometimes, she would see the children's smiles and hear their laughter in her dreams.

Moreover, at age 28, Amy wants to feel love and be loved. She has been lucky to be given opportunities to further her career, but it took her chances to find love away.

Like an arrow, the farther Amy aims for her dreams, the more distant she has to pull her desires back.

Thinking about her current situation was too draining, and Amy suddenly felt lightheaded. She grabbed a glass of champagne from the waiter passing by and walked out the balcony. ' I just need fresh air,' Amy told herself as she sighed.

"Nice seeing you again," a man's voice distracted Amy from her thoughts.
