I can wait…

The trio saw the newly admitted patient at the critical care unit. Amy and the other two doctors assessed the client and gathered all the information they needed. As Amy feared, the fluid build-up in her brain cavities was more severe.

Upon thorough assessment, Amy decided to do a surgical shunt to address the fluid in the client's brain and go from there. Both Dr. Yoo and Dr. Felix agreed.

"Hello, my name is Dr. Amy. Are you the parents of patient N?"

"Yes, Dr." Their eyes were red and swollen.

"I am Amy Fitzgerald, and I will be your daughter's doctor-in-charge, and these two amazing pediatric neurosurgeons next to me will assist me in coming up with the best care plan for your child."

"Will she be okay? Will she survive? She looks like she is in so much pain; Dr., Please help her." the patient's mother begged.

"As of right now, our best option is to schedule a shunt surgery."

Both parents gasp in fear.

"We will insert a thin tube in your child's brain that will facilitate the excess fluid through the shunt to another part of her body, and then it will be absorbed in your child's blood."

"Together with my team, we will do our best to help your child. Hopefully, the operation will alleviate the headaches she is experiencing from the pressure. Once her vitals are good, we will then discuss measures to address her *crouzon syndrome". Amy explained.

"If you have any questions about the surgery or the care plan, please let us know."

Since Dr. Yoo is already working, on the clock, and has patients to oversee, The dream team decided that Amy and Felix would do the operation.

"Have you done a shunt surgery before?" Amy asked Felix. "Yes, probably two-three times," he answered.

"Then we might be able to finish this in two hours!" Amy exclaimed. Felix smiled, his heart throbbing at the presence of the confident Dr. Amy Fitzgerald.

Because Amy and Felix are experts, the surgery went fast and exceptionally well without complications or unforeseen reactions. Felix and Amy worked in synchronization that impressed other surgical team members. "You two are like a match made in Operating Room," the anesthesiologist teased. The rest of the surgical team agreed.

After surgery, both doctors reported to the parents and headed to the cafeteria to grab their dinner. It was past 9 pm.

"You can go home, Dr. Felix," Amy said as they walked back to her office. "technically, you should be off duty today."

"I can stay." Dr. Felix replied, "There's still much reading and planning."

"Dr. Yoo can help me with that for now- she's already on duty. If something comes up, I will let you know. You, young man, enjoy your weekend. Don't let that good looks go to waste," Amy said nonchalantly. Felix turned quiet, and his face beet-red.

Felix was about to open his mouth to say something when Amy screamed and rushed to the person wearing an all-black outfit, sitting outside Amy's office.

"Jim," Amy ran and threw herself at Jim. "When did you get here?"

Jim opened his arms and tightly squeezed Amy. "Not long ago," Jim lied. He has been waiting for almost an hour. "I miss you, too, Doctor."

"You should have told me you're coming." Amy buried herself in Jim's embrace.

"I did, but your secretary told me you are in the operating room and will be for the next two hours."

"Aheeemm," A fake coughed from behind, bringing Amy back to reality. She released Jim and stood straight, composing herself.

"Oh! Jim, this is Dr. Felix Lee, a colleague. And Dr. Felix, this is …" Amy stopped, not knowing how to introduce Jim. Is she even allowed to mention his name?

"I'm Jim" Jim extended his hand to Felix, who he saw blushing at Amy not long ago. "Amy's boyfriend." Amy blushed; her body went hot at the mention of the word. Boyfriend.

Felix accepted the firm handshake.

"Felix, you should enjoy your weekend. Dr. Yoo and I can look over our patient."

"No, can do, Dr. Amy. I will stay here with you. There's still too much reading and prepping to do". Felix said, ignoring the man who was throwing daggers at him. Felix's ears turned red at the sight of Amy's beautiful smile.

"Well then, I will let you know if something urgent arises. If you really want to stay, you might as well sleep while you can at the quarters. It's going to be a long week ahead." Amy smiled.

Felix nodded like a newly petted puppy. Jim noticed the behavior and spoke, "Laters, bud," indicating Felix to go away.

Felix's demeanor changed from a loving puppy to a bulldog neglected by its owner.

"What's up with that guy?" Jim asked Amy as they walked inside her office.

"Who? Dr. Felix? What's with him?" Amy responded innocently.

"Nothing, I just got a feeling I'll be seeing him more often" Jim took a mental note of Felix's little crush on his woman.

"I missed you," Amy said, looking at Jim's fully covered face.

"I miss you more" Jim removed his hat and mask and kissed Amy passionately. Amy moaned at the taste of his lips. 'He smells clean and masculine,' Amy thought as she reached his hair and softly caressed his soft unkempt locks.

"Mmm," Jim moaned at Amy's touch. "You smell so good. It's intoxicating," Jim said and continued to explore Amy's mouth with his tongue. They kissed until their lips turned raw.

"I thought you were busy with your album," Amy asked Jim as she rested her head on his shoulder. "Sorry, I'm not able to spend time with you."

"I was. I still am, but we get breaks from time to time and today happens to be the day" Jim frowned, acting hurt by Amy's busy schedule.

"This was an emergency client with a rare case," Amy said sadly. "I…" Amy was about to explain that she didn't have much choice. As the head of her department, this is the type of case her expertise is most needed. And that she was okay with it.

"There, there" Jim extended his arm and gently pat Amy's hair. "I waited a long time, and I don't mind waiting a little more" Jim kissed Amy's forehead.

Amy thought Jim was talking about him waiting outside her office.

But what Jim truly meant was the torture he had to endure since their bizarre interaction four years ago. Jim looked for her in every fan meeting, meet-up, and concert.

Jim would always scan the room whenever they were in a crowd hoping to see her again. He waited and waited until he saw her again on the balcony of an event he had no intention of attending. 'Just my luck' Jim smiled at his vivid memory.

He pulled Amy closer as if their bodies were one and hugged her tightly. He closed his eyes and prayed that Amy wouldn't disappear from him ever again.
