Chapter - 26 - Rotten tomato

Zane smiled at the ladies again and sat with them, cursing Ralph in his mind. Zane started a casual talk and replied to their questions politely. He kept on repeating in his mind, ' Anything for Gianna'. On the other hand, Ralph called Alice, once he was out of sight from them and said, "Alice, call Dr.Zane now and tell him there is an emergency on the 4th floor." Alice was confused with his sudden phone call and said, "But there is no emergency. Why-" Ralph cut off Alice and said, "Just do what I say. Quick." He hung up the call and stepped inside the elevator.

Zane was controlling his frustration listening to their unbearable sweet talk with a lot of difficulty when his phone started to ring. He thanked the heavens and attended the call only to recognise that it was Alice. "Dr.Zane there is an emergency on the 4th floor. Please come quickly." Alice said her piece and hung up the call. Zane knew this is what Ralph meant when he said 'I will rescue you soon'. Zane immediately excused himself with the emergency reason and stepped into the elevator to meet the cunning Ralph.

Meanwhile, Dr.G gathered all the materials related to the project and sent the mail to Dr.Henry. She dialed Dr.Henry's number and informed him that she had sent him the details through the mail. Dr.Henry looked at the clock and it was 4:50 pm and he chuckled at the thought of how punctual Dr.G was in her duties. Gianna looked at her monitor with a satisfied smile and switched it off. She leaned on the chair and glanced around her room and found her bag filled with dirty clothes in a corner which had actually started to stink a bit. She never wanted to step into that empty house but if she had to live she had to go.

Gianna looked at her schedule and found that she had two surgeries tomorrow, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. She took a look at the bag once more and decided to go back to the apartment and have a relaxing bath to get ready for tomorrow's surgeries. She started to pack her stuff and decided to clock out at six.

On the other hand, Dr.Jason finished his surgery and walked towards his office to take a rest. He passed by the ICU reception and heard the nurses speaking about him again. He stopped in his tracks and hid behind the wall to listen to their conversation.

"I am telling the truth. Dr.Jason invited Dr.G to have a coffee to congratulate her for her new project. You all know that Dr.G was Dr.Jason's junior. There is nothing going on between them." said the nurse in front of the monitor. "Well, even if Dr.Jason has a crush on Dr.G, Dr.G wouldn't have any feelings towards him because that's how Dr.G is." said the other nurse. Jason was furious hearing what the nurse said and was about to reprimand her when another nurse came running towards the station and said, "HOT NEWS!!"

Everyone in the reception cabin and Jason eagerly waited to know what the hot news was! She took a few breaths and said, " Dr.Zane from the ER department is dating Dr.G." All looked at her in surprise and she continued, "One of my friends saw Dr.Zane and Dr.G having lunch in the cafeteria all lovey - dovey." Jason couldn't believe what he heard and felt like lightning struck his head. He thought, 'How fast can everything change? Just a few hours before I heard everyone talking about me dating Gianna and now it's someone else? Who the hell is Dr.Zane now?'

Dr.Jason couldn't control his anger and walked to the cabin. One of the nurses saw him walking towards them and greeted him politely. He swept a look at them and asked, "Do you think the hospital is paying you to spread such malicious rumors? Do you want me to notify the management what you all are up to instead of doing your duties? This will be my last warning, if I hear anyone talking such nonsense here again, you can pack your stuff and leave. Do you understand?" The nurses were terrified by Dr.Jason's anger and all nodded their heads silently.

At the same time, Dr.Zane stepped outside the elevator and headed to the staff station. He reached the station and saw Ralph explaining the cafe incident to others. Zane shook his head in frustration and walked towards them. Hearing footsteps in the corridor, the team turned to look at the visitor. Zane was about to shout at Ralph but Ralph immediately stood up and greeted, "Good evening, Dr.Jason." and looked at Zane and said, "Good evening, Dr.Zane." The team also greeted them in unison after Ralph.

Zane turned back and saw Jason looking at him. Zane sized up Jason and chuckled in his mind understanding the reason why Dr.G would never feel attracted to him. Jason on the other hand, took a good look at Dr.Zane and his heart wavered for a second as he felt there were chances for the rumors to be true. Zane was young and really attractive.

Zane shrugged his thought off and nodded politely at Jason and Jason also nodded at him in return. Dr.Jason walked up to the monitor and acted like he was checking on his patient's charts. The team and Dr.Zane waited for Dr.Jason to leave to talk but Dr.Jason noticed that neither of them were speaking and felt something was odd.

"Is there any problem, Dr.Zane?" asked Dr.Jason looking haughtily at Dr.Zane. Zane sensed Jason's arrogance in his question and thought, 'What is it now? Did I do something? Why is he acting so arrogant?....Wait a minute! Is he upset about the rumor of me dating Dr.G? Hahaha… He is so predictable!! His face is like a rotten tomato!! Hahahaha.. I really wish I could act like Gianna's boyfriend !'
