Chapter - 58 - Will not spare you

Tringggggg… Gianna's alarm rang sharply at 6 am as usual. The sound of the phone made Gianna stir from her deep sleep. She lazily turned and dismissed the alarm ringing on her phone. She slowly sat up on the couch and tied her hair into a tight bun with her eyes shut. She slowly opened her eyes to adjust to the sunlit living room. 'What should I cook for breakfast? I don't have much time to prepare a lavish breakfast. Does he like toast?' thought Gianna as she walked into the bedroom.

Gianna saw the empty and neatly made bed instead of Rick sleeping on it. She turned her gaze towards the side table. His belongings were also gone. Gianna was shocked because she didn't expect him to leave just like that, even if she told him to leave without informing her. 'Was I harsh with him yesterday night? Did he leave suddenly because of me? He should change his bandage!' Gianna was so disappointed in him and sat on the edge of the bed till she could clear her mind.

Gianna was not a person who would be hung up on a stranger for a prolonged period, but the sudden departure of Rick was too overwhelming for her! She let out a deep breath and mumbled, "He was just a stranger. There is nothing special about him. It is good that he left, or I would have been late to work. I should clean the whole house when I return. It's good that he left soon." She walked into the washroom and started to get ready to go to the hospital.

Throughout her shower, she kept reminding herself that it was good that Rick had left. She dressed and packed her duffle bag with a few sets of clothes before returning to the living room. She brought her backpack from the study room and was ready to leave the apartment. She checked all the rooms and finally came to the balcony to lock the door. To her surprise, she saw a note stuck on the balcony door.

Gianna paused her movements. Her heart suddenly felt heavy as she looked at the note. She slowly took the paper in her hand and read it out.

'Don't sleep on the couch as the weather is getting cold. Thank you so much for everything. I hope we don't cross paths in the future. Goodbye.'

Gianna scoffed at the note and said aloud, "As if I want to see you again!" She crumpled the paper and threw it aside. She looked at the balcony door and shouted, "Who are you to tell me not to sleep on my couch, you piece of crap!'' She calmed herself and left the apartment with her bags after locking the balcony door to the hospital. She felt good after shouting earlier and quickly moved on from thoughts of Rick.

Her misery didn't stop with the sudden departure of Rick because as she stepped out of the elevator, she heard the loud voice of Dr.Jason from the staff station. She walked quickly towards the station and heard Dr.Jason yelling at Victor and Ralph. "You are just a resident here! Don't try to act smart with me! Didn't I tell you and your team to check on the patient? Where were you the whole day without attending to my calls? Wait and watch how I am, going to teach you all a lesson."

"Why don't you first teach me that lesson before teaching them?" asked Gianna standing behind Jason. Jason didn't expect Gianna to arrive so early at the department and turned to face her with doubt. "What are you going to teach?" asked Gianna arrogantly as she stopped a few steps before Jason. "You have got it wrong, Dr. Gianna. I gave them a task to do but they were roaming around the whole day instead!" said Jason, acting innocently.

"Enough! Don't ever dare to bother my team. But if you continue to do so, I will teach you a lesson instead," said Gianna and signaled her team to follow her. She stepped into the department room and gulped down water from a bottle to calm the rage building up within her! They all stood there in silence and waited for Dr.G to calm herself before they could explain what took place yesterday.

Gianna sat on the chair next to her and looked at the team. "Stanley and Alice, get ready for the rounds. I will join you in 15 minutes." Gianna drank another mouthful of water and asked, "Victor, are you ready for the surgery? Do you want me to do it?" Victor shook his head and said, "I have prepared well, Dr.G. I will do it!" Gianna nodded and signaled the team to disperse.

Victor was hesitant to leave without explaining to her about the previous day's incident. Gianna noticed the reluctant look on his face and asked him to speak out. "Dr.G, yesterday morning I got a call from Dr. Zane. He said that the ER department needed extra hands. So -" Gianna cut off Victor and said, "I was the one who asked Dr. Zane to call you all over to the ER. But why did you not attend Dr. Jason's calls?"

"Dr. Zane confiscated our phones and told us to report to the nurse station to call the ER if there was any emergency with the patients in our department," said Alice in a low voice. "Smart move!" exclaimed Gianna and left for her office. The team looked at her with astonishment because they expected her to reprimand Dr. Zane and instead praised him!

Gianna reached her office and sat on the chair to calm herself before going for the rounds. 'Rick, you killed my mood today, and I will not spare you if I ever meet you again! No, why would I even want to meet him again? Shit !! Jason, I am going to make you pay if you trigger me once more!' thought Gianna as she took deep breaths to calm herself down.
