Chapter - 67 - Swift and smooth

Gianna and others were having a casual conversation when Gianna's phone rang. She glanced at the phone and saw Dr.Henry's name. "Yes, Dr.Henry," said Gianna, upon answering the call. "Gianna, do you have any idea about how many times I called you? Can't you pick up your phone?" shouted Dr.Henry through the phone. "What a coincidence! I also wanted to ask you the same question, Dr.Henry," said Gianna, casually.

"Is this the way you answer your seniors?" Dr.Henry was irritated by Gianna's sarcastic reply. "What do you want from me, Dr.Henry?" Gianna was least bothered to argue with the old man. "Come to my office right now!" Before Gianna could refuse, Dr.Henry hung up the call. Gianna sighed and said, "I am going to the chief's office. Call me if there is an emergency."

The team was worried about Dr.G, but Dr.Zane assured them that Gianna would handle it well. Zane also left soon, and the team continued to discuss the surgery procedure. Gianna knocked twice and entered Dr.Henry's office. She saw Dr.Henry and Dr.Jason sitting on the couch having coffee. She greeted both of them and sat opposite Dr.Jason. Dr.Henry offered coffee, but Gianna kindly refused the offer.

"Gianna, I know what happened today morning is wrong, but you have no right to question us in front of the other staff. What respect will we have when you point at us in front of others?" asked Dr.Henry calmly. "Exactly! How can we face the staff from now on because of your backlash toward us?" asked Dr.Jason.

Gianna chuckled and looked at them with a smirk. "Who would you have blamed, if the patient died on the operating table?" Henry and Jason looked at each other and didn't reply to her question. "That's what I thought! The respect you are talking about was long gone among the staff when you both failed to attend the call right from the beginning. I saved two lives when you both were sleeping soundly in your houses."

Gianna looked Jason straight into his eyes and said, "You have no right to reprimand me when you are an irresponsible doctor." Jason was furious and shouted, "How dare you claim me to be irresponsible?" "Then who are you when you switch your phone off and drink alcohol till you drop?" asked Gianna calmly, unlike Jason. Jason was baffled and couldn't refute her accusation because it was true! Gianna chuckled at his reaction and looked at Henry.

"Did you drink last night, Jason? Was that the reason you were late today?" asked Dr.Henry in disbelief. Jason couldn't face him and nodded at him, hanging his head down. "How did you know he drank?" asked Henry. "Is that important now, Dr.Henry? If you have nothing else to talk about, I will take a leave," said Gianna as she was about to stand up. "Gianna, wait. You did great work today! Congra-" Dr.Henry was cut off by Gianna's loud ringtone. Gianna saw the call from the ER!

"Dr.G, it's an emergency!" said the nurse as she answered her call. "I will be there soon," said Gianna as she stepped out of Dr.Henry's office. Gianna didn't wait to ask permission to leave and dashed out of the office.

Dr.Henry didn't know whether to appreciate her sense of duty or reprimand her rudeness. He looked at Jason and said, "Don't find fault in others when you are not correct. I don't want this to happen again! Do you understand, Jason?" Dr.Jason nodded his head and soon left the office. Dr.Jason entered his office and took a pill for a headache. 'How did she know that I had alcohol when no one around me could find it? How did she find out?' thought Dr.Jason as he leaned on the chair.

"The patient has been hit by a car. She is bleeding heavily from the right side of the head," said Dr.Zane as he was performing the primary treatment. Victor soon reached beside Dr.G with the scan report. "It's worse, Dr.G! It's an open depressed skull fracture, but there is something penetrated in the brain. The object is not clear. There is bleeding in the brain and also CSF leakage." reported Victor.

Gianna looked at the scan and said, "Bring her to the operation room immediately, and Ralph will assist me. You take care of the patients in the ICU." said Gianna, looking at Victor. She gave a few instructions to Zane and left for the changing room. "Dr.G, the preparations for the surgery are completed," said Ralph as she stepped into the operation room.

Gianna looked at the scan once more, and announced, "I will start the surgery now." "The surgery is commencing at 4:10 pm," announced the attending nurse. Gianna started the surgery instantly and had to stop the bleeding as soon as possible. She stopped the leakage of CSF and elevated the depressed skull. "The present time is 5:20 pm, and it has been one hour and 10 minutes since the surgery started." announced the attending nurse.

The site of bleeding in the brain was found and Ralph could now see what had penetrated the patient's brain. The object was the bone fragment from her skull. Gianna immediately removed the bone fragments carefully and stopped the bleeding. They checked for bleeding signs in the CT scan and confirmed there were none. She then started to reattach her skull. "The present time is 6:30 pm, and it has been two hours and 20 minutes since the surgery started." announced the attending nurse.

Gianna's movements were swift and smooth. Ralph admired the way she calmly handled the surgery. The surgery was finished, and the staff cheered. "The present time is 7:45 pm, and the surgery has been completed in three hours and 35 minutes." announced the attending nurse. Gianna thanked the staff and stepped out of the operating room after giving a few instructions to the nurse.
