Chapter - 66 - Overboard

Victor and others gathered in the department room, discussing the surgeries from the morning. "I AM HERE!!" shouted Zane as he opened the door suddenly. The team was shocked by his sudden appearance as they were deeply focused on the surgery procedure. "You frightened the hell out of me!" yelled Alice, looking at Zane.

Zane laughed loudly and entered the room. He placed a big bag on the table and looked at them with a bright smile. "You all have worked hard, so lunch is on me. Here!" Zane pushed the bag towards them. "How was the surgery?" asked Zane as he took a seat. The team sighed loudly and looked at Zane with a faint smile.

Zane looked at them questioningly. "Well, we thought it would be a tragedy but the 'Goddess of Miracle' came to the rescue," said Ralph with a proud smile. "Why would it have been a tragedy?" asked Dr.Zane. Victor narrated the whole incident to Dr.Zane. "How can they be so irresponsible?! What would they have done, if Dr.G was not there? I would have beat them up if I was in Dr.G's situation." shouted Dr.Zane, pouring out his frustration.

After Dr.Zane calmed down, he looked at his watch and enquired, "Where is Dr.G? It's already half past one." "I guess she is still sleeping. Should we disturb her?" asked Stanley. "She did not have anything for breakfast. I will give her a call," announced Ralph and dialed Dr.G's number.

"What is it?" Ralph expected a sleepy voice, but Dr.G's voice was on full alert. "Dr.Zane has brought us lunch. Come soon, Dr.G. We will wait for you," said Ralph. "I am in the morgue. You guys start without me, I will join you in some time," said Gianna and hung up the call. "She is in the morgue. Shall we wait for her?" asked Ralph. "You told me the surgeries were successful, then why is she in the morgue?" asked Zane in confusion.

"Dr.G always goes to the mortuary in certain death cases to pay a visit to the dead. I guess she went to see the boy who passed away in the car accident," said Victor. "But why would she visit a dead person whom she doesn't know or didn't operate on?" asked Dr.Zane in puzzlement. "Hahaha. I also asked the exact question," said Alice with a smile.

"You want to know the reason?" asked Ralph, looking at Dr.Zane. Zane nodded his head and sat straight in his chair. " 'Won't the dead want to hear some assuring words before leaving the earth instead of cries and complaints?' This was her reply when we questioned her about her unusual habit." said Ralph with a smile. Zane was baffled and speechless.

"Take your time to relax, Dr.Zane. We can't think like the goddess," said Victor with a chuckle. The residents went back to discuss the surgery procedure and Zane thought over Dr.G's ideology. Thinking about it over and over, he found her reason more logical. The door suddenly flew open, and the team looked towards the door expectantly but was instantly disappointed.

"Where is Dr.Gianna?" asked Dr. Jason in an irritated tone. "We don't know, Dr. Jason. Why don't you try calling her?" said Victor casually. "She is not picking up her call," said Dr.Jason, extremely annoyed. All of them shrugged their shoulders at the same time and returned to what they were doing. "Pfft.." Zane couldn't resist laughing at the team's reaction. Zane didn't look at Dr.Jason but instead turned around. Jason was irritated and shouted from the doorway, "What is so funny?"

The team looked at Dr. Zane and saw he was on the verge of laughing out loud. The team didn't know what fuss Dr.Jason would create now. Jason walked towards the team and saw Zane casually surfing through his phone, least bothered to answer him. Jason slammed on the table and asked, in a raised voice, "Do you think you can act as you wish if you have Dr.Gianna's permission to enter the department?"

"Do you think you can act as you wish if you are the senior attending physician?" asked Gianna in a raised voice, standing at the doorway. Everyone looked toward the door and saw Gianna standing with clenched fists by her side and a deathly glare directed toward Dr. Jason. Dr.G was riled up, and the team knew something would go wrong today.

"Don't go overboard, Gianna. Why didn't you answer my calls?" asked Dr.Jason. "Overboard? You can sleep in you as you wish, and you call me overboard! Also, I prefer not to answer a call from an irresponsible doctor." Dr.G lashed out at Dr.Jason. She sat on the chair and asked, "Where is the lunch? I'm starving!" The team immediately laid the content from the bag on the table, completely ignoring Dr.Jason. "Close the door when you leave, Dr.Jason," said Gianna, munching on her hamburger.

Jason left the room and walked straight to his office, riled up. He couldn't contain his anger and swept the things on the table to the floor. He breathed heavily and mumbled, "How dare you raise your voice against me? Gianna, that's it! Soon you will meet the end of your freedom. You will never see the sunlight again after that."

"The hamburger is tasty!" remarked Dr.G as she finished eating. "I knew you all would like it," said Zane, with a smile. "Dr.G, do you know what caused the accident?" asked Alice. "They were all drunk and were returning from a party. The guy drove at high speed and couldn't control the car at a turn. The car hit right into a divider, and as they weren't wearing seat belts the air balloon didn't pop up." said Dr.Zane. Gianna and others nodded and drank their drink.

"I also heard that the female patient who had the surgery was the girlfriend of the guy who passed away," said Zane in a pitiful tone.
