Chapter - 89 - Only chance

"Toxic. Too much toxic," mumbled Rick under his breath. Gianna quickly freshened up and laid down on her bed. She slowly started reminiscing about the morning events, and her cheeks flushed. 'I can't believe I was concerned about him leaving again. Why do I care about him so much? Why do I feel lost whenever he comes near me? Am I attracted to him?! NO WAY!! Me? Attracted to him? Never! I can never do that!' thought Gianna. She remembered him wearing the torn t-shirt. She didn't have any spare clothing to give him, so she ordered men's t-shirts and pants through the instant delivery app.

Ding Dong! Gianna's eyes flew open and sprinted towards the living room, but as she ran fast, she hit her left arm in the doorframe. She checked the monitor and saw Frank standing in front of her door. She quickly turned around and signaled Rick to move to the study room. Gianna opened the door after making sure Rick went inside the study room. "Good morning, Doc! I have brought breakfast for you, and grandma told you not to cook anything as you are hurt," said Frank as he placed the thermal food container on the table.

"Hurt?" mumbled Rick under his breath. Frank looked around and asked, "Why do I feel a manly presence here?" "My hormones are not in check lately. Do you want to see?" asked Gianna with an eyebrow raised. "No. I am good. Oh yes! I know you didn't get hurt by falling into that whatever cart. Don't fight alone every time and call for some backup." said Frank, as he stepped out of the door. "Shut up, Frank! Go and study!" said Gianna and shut the door.

"Are you hurt?" Gianna turned around and saw Rick standing right behind her. She wanted to take a step back, but she tripped and was about to fall behind. Rick quickly reacted as he caught her by her left arm and pulled her towards him. Gianna gasped as his left hand snaked around her waist and pulled her right into him. Rick looked deeply into her eyes and slowly inched closer. "You are hurting me," said Gianna in a wavering tone. Rick came back to his senses and slowly left her.

"I am sorry," said Rick. Gianna nodded and walked quickly towards the bedroom. Rick still didn't get a reply from her, so he followed her into the bedroom. "You didn't ans-" Rick paused and quickly turned around. Gianna was halfway in removing her hoodie as he stepped inside. Gianna took off the hoodie and asked, "What were you saying?" Rick slowly turned, and Gianna's left hand caught his attention. "How did you get hurt, Gianna?" asked Rick with concern and stepped closer to her.

"I fell." Gianna looked in the mirror and saw a small red patch in the bandage. "Looks like it's bleeding. I will help you!" said Rick, looking at her reflection in the mirror. "It's fine." Gianna walked away, but Rick followed her closely. Gianna opened the thermal box and said, "Let's have breakfast, I am hungry." Rick knew it was hard to convince Gianna, so he sat on the chair to have breakfast. For the entire breakfast time, both ate in silence. Gianna was thinking about Julia and the assaulter while Rick's mind was exploding with a lot of questions about Gianna's injury.

Ding dong! Rick looked at Gianna with a questioning look. Gianna checked the monitor and asked, "Do you have cash?" Rick nodded. "Then, give me 200 ACD (Ascanian Dollars)." Rick reached into his pocket and handed over a 500 ACD bill to Gianna. She received the change from the delivery man and shut the door after thanking him. She placed the package and the change on the table and said, "Open it. It's for you." Rick was surprised and eagerly opened the package.

Rick smiled as he saw two t-shirts and pants and said, "Thank you." "It's your money. Let's change your bandage now," said Gianna as she opened the medical kit. "No." Gianna looked and raised an eyebrow. "I am not going to change the bandage until you allow me to change yours," said Rick as he unfolded the dark blue t-shirt from the package. "Don't act like a child, Rick," said Gianna in a raised voice. "Is it me or you, acting like a child?" asked Rick, staring back at her. Gianna let out a sigh, and said, "Okay, but first, let's change yours." Rick nodded and removed his torn t-shirt.

Gianna removed his bandage and started cleaning the wounds. Rick wanted to look at her, but he was sure he wouldn't be able to control his temptation, so he looked away. Ring ring ring… Gianna's phone started to ring. Rick smacked his lips and said, "EVERY SINGLE TIME!" Rick attended the call and put it on speaker mode. "Good morning, Dr. Gianna. I am Peter. Young master Alexander wants to talk to you, I will hand over the phone to him." Gianna gave a hmm response.

"G! Are you alright?" asked Alexi in a flustered tone. "I am fine, Alexi. Don't stress yourself and take a good rest." Rick understood the young master in line was Mr. Ellerbrock's grandson and noticed how close they both were from their conversation. "It's all because of me! If you didn't have to save me, you wouldn't have gotten injured!" Gianna paused her cleaning and said, glancing at Rick, "Alexi, stop. Don't talk about the past and focus on your recovery. I am doing good, and you don't have to worry at all." Gianna signaled Rick to hang up, but he didn't.

Rick knew this was his only chance to get to know how Gianna was injured and moved the phone away from her.
