Gianna looked at him with a frown and asked, "You know how life-threatening the situation was with the child, right?" Zane's bright smile immediately became dull. He hung his head down, not daring to look at her.
"I know, Dr. G. It's my mistake not checking up on the kid properly. I am sorry. I am ready to face any consequences." "What role will consequences have if the child lost his life?" asked Gianna through her gritted teeth. "I will never repeat this, Dr. G." Gianna nodded and left without another word. Zane looked at her back and mumbled, "Such a tough woman!"
Gianna didn't stop anywhere and walked straight into her dark office. As she was about to switch on the light, she sniffed as she could smell a different scent in her room. "Why are you here again?" asked Gianna as she switched on the light and walked straight to her desk. "I see you recognize my scent," said Rick in a taunting tone.
Gianna initially felt a ripple in her heart hearing his husky voice. But after recalling that Rick also had some mysterious connection with the gang, a sudden disgust overcame her heart. She couldn't bear the child's condition and the reason behind it. So naturally, she looked at him in disgust.
Gianna smirked and looked into his eyes before saying, "'Your kind' all have the same stinking smell." "'My kind'? What do you mean?" asked Rick in confusion. "Didn't you hear my question earlier?"
Rick didn't miss the disgust in her voice and was confused about what was wrong between them. "I just came to see you because you didn't answer my calls." "Have I not told you many times that I am not abided by any means to answer your calls? One more time you call me or sneak into my apartment or office, I am going to report it to the police. Do you understand? Leave and never show up in front of me."
Rick felt like someone was squeezing his heart, and an unbearable pain spread in his chest. He clearly remembered this kind of feeling, which he had only once in his lifetime! 'What is wrong with her? Why is she so cruel?' thought Rick as he took a few long breaths. "I have no idea why you are acting like this to me, but I just stopped by to see that you are safe. You can text me when you clear your mind. Take care, and don't skip your meals. Let's meet soon."
Gianna sensed disappointment in his voice but didn't care. "I know how to take care of myself, and it's none of your business. So, keep what I said in your mind and never come in front of my face. Get out!" said Gianna in a crisp tone and looked at his vast ocean-like dark amber eyes turning darker. A maniac smile appeared on his face. He looked at Gianna for a second as if absorbing her soul with his looks and left without another word.
Gianna looked at the slammed door and let out a breath. She sat down and slowly gulped down the water. "What is happening with me?" mumbled Gianna and hit her forehead. She took out her phone and checked through it after transferring the coffee amount to Victor. "Is he crazy? Why did he call me 17 times?" mumbled Gianna, looking at the call list filled with the name Annoying jerk. She opened the messaging app and saw many messages from him!
Annoying jerk: Are you ignoring me?
Annoying jerk: Answer my call, Gianna!
Annoying jerk: Where are you?
Annoying jerk: Did something happen to you?
Annoying jerk: I am going crazy!!! What the h*ll happened to you?
Annoying jerk: Pick up!!! Gianna!!!
Annoying jerk: I am on my way, don't worry.
"Does he think I am a kid? Why is he acting up like this?" muttered Gianna and looked at the time of his last message. "Was he waiting for me for the past three hours? Why? Why did he? Idiot! Why is he so annoying?" muttered Gianna as she recalled the look in his eyes when she spoke rudely to him.
"Did I act rashly? Should I text him back something? HMMMMMM…..Ah! Whatever I said cannot be taken back, and from this, he won't disturb me in the future!" Gianna reassured herself and went for the rounds.
Rick walked with slow steps through the street behind the hospital. Every step he took away from the hospital broke his heart. He has never felt this heartbroken after that very incident which had taken place eighteen years ago.
'I was just worried about her! What did I do to make her disgust me? What did she mean by 'my kind' earlier? Has she fallen for that police douchebag?!' thought Rick with rage clouding his eyes. His eyes narrowed at the thought of Mason being close to Gianna. Rick looked at the time and decided to drop by the hospital before he left Ascania.
Buzz buzz… His phone vibrated in his pocket. A faint smile appeared as he saw a string of numbers. "Yes, Mr. Rich." "I got intel from the department that a newly appointed Lieutenant has gathered information on you and your takeover of the drugs from the Ellerbrocks. Stay low for some time. I will call you if there are other developments on their side." Rick lowered his phone, and a spooky smirk appeared on his face.
"No one has ever succeeded in digging on me. Shall we play a game, Lieutenant?" muttered Rick as he disappeared into the dark alleyway.
