Gianna saw a pair of eyes staring at her.
If looks could burn, then definitely she would have turned into ashes. The person understood Gianna noticed him and continued to stare at her. Gianna couldn't take her eyes off of him but was suddenly interrupted by the voice of Mason sitting opposite her.
"What happened, Gianna? Is something bothering you?" asked Mason as he looked at the spot towards which Gianna was staring earlier. "It's nothing. I just suddenly was lost in thought when I heard about the drug dealer." Gianna drank her coffee soon and stood to leave.
"I hope we will get a chance to meet for a meal in the coming days. I am not keeping you anymore, Dr. Gianna. Take good care of your health." Mason said with an affectionate tone. "You too." Gianna quickly bade him farewell and left for her room instead of the department room. 'Why is he back? Will he be waiting in my room?' thought Gianna and quickly went to the room.
Gianna didn't know why she was so eager to see him but still opened the door to her room expectantly. The smile on her face immediately dropped as she didn't see any trace of him in her room. The side of her lips twitched and went to the window. She stared out of the window with slight disappointment. Giana was sure that she saw him in the corridor. She thought he would be waiting for her, but to her unknown dismay, he wasn't.
"Don't be stupid, Gianna! Do you expect him to come after all those harsh words?" mumbled Gianna with a smirk and looked to the night sky with a disappointed face. After a few minutes of reassurance, she left to meet the team.
Not so far from the hospital, Rick stood like an ice sculpture looking at the cold and dark large river in front of him. If Albert and Ben saw him in this state, they would run several miles for their life. The cold and domineering aura he was exuding would suffocate whoever stood beside him.
"I was not wrong. Gianna has taken a liking to that douchebag. If not, how is it possible for her to smile and talk so affectionately with him? She looked at me with disgust and hatred while she sat there all lovey-dovey with him." Rick took a few long breaths and tried to calm himself.
"What made her look at me that way? Ahhhhhh !!!! I am going crazy, Gianna! She is the end of me." Rick took his mobile and hovered around the call option under her contact's name. After giving it a deep thought, he decided to give her a call.
Buzz…Buzz…
The team instantly looked at Gianna. Gianna pulled her phone from her pocket and bit her lips, looking at the caller ID. She was quickly contemplating in her mind whether to pick up his call or not. "You guys continue. I will join you after I take this call." Gianna quickly walked out of the room and attended the call while walking toward the end of the corridor.
Both sides were silent as the call connected. Both Gianna and Rick didn't know how to start the conversation. Rick was controlling his anger, so he wouldn't say anything which he could not take back. Gianna had no idea how to hide her disappointment.
Rick cleared his throat to show that he was still on the line. Gianna didn't want to start the conversation and told herself to hang up the call if he didn't talk in another 30 seconds. After much hesitation, Rick broke the silence because he knew how stubborn Gianna was!
" Gianna!" said Rick in a low, attractive voice. Gianna felt a slight tingling in her ear as if he whispered, standing near her. "Did you have your dinner?" asked Rick in a low husky voice. 'Why do you care?' Gianna wanted to ask that but instead said, "Yes." A faint smile appeared on his face as she didn't refute his question. "Are you going to accept that police guy?" Gianna was now sure he did come to the hospital, and it was not her imagination. "I don't see a reason not to accept," said Gianna haughtily.
Rick clenched his fist and controlled his emotion. He couldn't take any more of her haughtiness and said, "Gianna, I don't know what you think about me because I could see the disgust in your eyes toward me. I only want to ask, were you serious when you told me never to show up in front of you?" Gianna was dumbstruck hearing his question.
'I know I was harsh towards him when he just came to check my safety, but the fact about his involvement with the gangs will never change. I don't have any feelings toward him, but I have no idea why he always pops into my mind! How should I answer him?' Gianna closed her eyes and took in a long breath. "I meant every word of it!" said Gianna thinking it was best for her and her plan if she doesn't contact him.
Rick's eyes narrowed, and asked in a cold voice, "Are you sure, Gianna?" "Are you deaf? Should I tell you in another language? I never -" Rick hung up the call before Gianna could complete her sentence. Gianna looked at the display and laughed at herself for feeling sorry for him. "Everything is fine now. He won't even contact me in his lifetime," mumbled Gianna and left for her office.
On the other end, Rick was seething in fury. He took a few long breaths and muttered, "You have gone too far, Gianna! I will never come looking for you in this lifetime." Rick pulled out his sim card, broke it into two halves, and threw it in the river along with the phone. He kicked a stone under his feet out of anger and left the place.
