Chapter - 135 - A chance

Two years ago, the team leader of the Delta team was found guilty of drug smuggling and reselling the confiscated drugs. The whole team was also roasted by the investigation team and faced a brutal insult among the department.

In the end, except for the team leader, other team members were considered innocent and were allowed to continue their work. Nora Kings was next in command and got promoted to team leader. She never knew that the promotion would turn out to be a punishment. The team was only allowed to handle petty cases.

The whole department ignored them and never considered them as a family. The department excluded the Delta team from office parties, team dinners, joint investigations, and everything possible. Their team was no longer known as Delta but as freeloaders.

Whoever tipped them the information was considered an angel by the entire team. Nora made a mental note that if she ever met the anonymous informant, she would show her deep gratitude in any possible way. Nora was happy and continued to lead the team in sorting out the evidence.

On the other side, "Capo! The Visconti family has been arrested," said Ben with a smirk. There was no expression on Rick's face, and he continued to exercise. "Why did you choose the Delta team instead of the other well-experienced teams, Capo?" asked Ben with a doubtful gaze.

"Even if those teams are well-experienced, they are all corrupted in some or the other way. Derrick would flip out, so take care of him with the usual method." "Yes, capo. I wish I could see his reaction when he reads the note." Rick smirked and fetched his phone.

Rick received an encrypted message, and his face turned serious after reading the content. "Send a message to the police department that we have information on each of the police officers in their department. We will disclose it directly to the public if the Delta team doesn't have the full power to investigate the Visconti case." Ben nodded and thought, 'What message did Capo receive to make such a threat to the officers?'

At the same time, Nora and her team thoroughly examined and found much evidence which would put the Vicontis behind bars for life. Nora couldn't suppress her delight in her heart and smiled brightly, looking at the evidence they had retrieved. The ringing phone on her desk brought her back from her train of thought.

"Come to the Chief's office now," said the head of the department and hung up the call. Nora felt the disgust in his tone and had a wild guess that they would probably stand in her team's way to snatch the case. She sighed internally and decided she would fight them till the end for her team. She instructed her team to pack all the valuable evidence on her way out.

Nora soon reached the chief's office. She knocked at the door after taking a deep breath. "Come in." Nora opened the door and entered the room as she heard the voice.

She walked in and saluted the police chief. Her movements were brisk and attractive. The chief scanned her from head to toe and said, "Hand over the case to team Alpha. Your team is not well-experienced in these types of cases." Nora was heartbroken hearing the word 'handover'. Even though she expected this would happen, she couldn't bear the reality.

"But chief -," Nora couldn't even complete her sentence and got cut off by the Lieutenant. "Are you refuting the chief's order?" Nora didn't know what to do. She couldn't forget the smiles on the faces of her teammates and didn't know how to convince the chief. She was determined to handle the case no matter who stood in her way.

"I can't hand over the case, sir. I am not disobeying your orders but asking for a chance to prove. It's already been two years. Don't you think the treatment we received is more than enough? Kindly give us a chance, sir. I will make sure that the case will be closed properly and favourable to us."

The head of the department scoffed in disgust and said, "Are you saying we are harassing you all? If you think so, why don't you resign and get lost?" Nora knew their ultimate goal was to dissolve her team, and she wouldn't let them do it.

Nora ignored the head of the department and looked at the chief.

"I am only asking for a chance for my team to prove themselves. After all these struggles, don't we at least deserve this, sir?" The chief cleared his throat and said, "It's not about deserving. I want your team to take baby steps rather than thinking of having more than you can. Go and hand over the case to team Alpha."

Nora felt hopeless and wanted to smash the whole building. She was racking her brain to somehow sweet talk the chief and change his decision about the handover. She heard rapid knocking on the door and was pulled out of her thoughts. An officer came inside quickly and whispered something to the Chief.

The chief's eyes narrowed and looked at Nora in anger.
