Back in the hospital, Gianna stepped out of the operating room and met with the guardians to relay the condition of the patient before leaving for her office. As she walked towards her office, her phone rang. She quickly attended the call and answered in a polite tone, "Good evening, Dr. Kate." Dr. Kate smiled and said, "Good evening, Dr. G. I wanted to talk with you. Are you free now?"
Gianna was puzzled hearing it because she didn't cause any trouble recently, so she couldn't guess what matter Dr. Kate wanted to discuss. "Sure, Dr. Kate. I just stepped out of surgery. I will freshen up and be there in another fifteen minutes." Dr. Kate agreed and hung up the call. Gianna quickly freshened up and went to meet Dr. Kate.
"Come, take a seat," said Dr. Kate directing her hand toward the couch. "How about a cup of coffee?" Gianna nodded her head and sat on the couch. Soon, Dr. Kate came with two cups of coffee and placed them on the table.
"How is the experiment going on?" Gianna took a sip of her coffee and said, "The experiment is still in its initial stage, and there are no problems so far. Also, I have the residents putting their effort into it." Dr. Kate smiled and said, "They have a lot on their plate, but I still think they are lucky to have you as their mentor."
"Please don't tell that, Dr. Kate. I am just fulfilling my duties, and I also want them to be at least a decent doctor on whom the patients can put their full hope and trust," said Gianna in a humble tone. Gianna is not a person who believes in luck but in hard work and determination. If the residents were not up to her expectations, she wouldn't have involved them in the experiment.
"You are so humble, Gianna. I called you to ask your opinion about a suggestion put forward by the chairman himself. You and the residents are very busy with your everyday schedule, so we thought of recruiting one or two attending physicians to reduce your burden. What is your opinion on that?"
Gianna thought over the suggestion for over a minute and said with a faint smile, "I am fine with any decisions you and Dr. Henry make. It would be a great help if one or two doctors are present to help us with the schedules. If you are hiring someone, kindly make sure that person is completely capable of performing the tasks individually. I am not in a position to take up more students."
Dr. Kate chuckled at her words and drank her coffee in silence. "I appreciate the effort and determination you put towards your profession. Now I completely understand the G-theory." Gianna looked at her in embarrassment and wanted to run far away from the hospital. "Dr. Kate, those are all pieces of nonsense. Please don't take that to your heart. I have no idea who is spreading all this nonsense!"
Dr. Kate laughed loudly and said in between her laughter, "Gianna, it's good to have fans, so enjoy it as long as you have it. Also, I don't think it's all nonsense but true with the performance you show every day. Alright, I will discuss it with Dr. Henry, and he will let you know the further details." Gianna smiled faintly and nodded her head as she excused herself.
"Well, having a few extra hands will be a huge help. I hope it will help rather than add more trouble. The chairman would have heard about his dear grandson's tight schedule and sleepless nights to come up with this suggestion. After all, nothing can beat family love!" mumbled Gianna as she descended the stairs. The sudden ringing of her phone brought her back from her thoughts.
"What happened, Robbie?" Gianna furrowed her brows as she attended the call. Roberto would call her only if there is an emergency. "Nothing, G. I called you simply. Did you have your dinner?" Gianna noticed how low-spirited his voice sounded and knew something was off.
Roberto is such a cheerful kid. Only three things can make him low-spirited. First of all, getting an earful from Gianna. Second, while facing problems with his computer skills, and third, when he thinks about his family. Gianna hoped it was not the last reason and tried to cheer him up.
"I will have it later. What about you?" asked Gianna in a loving voice. Gianna had to tone her voice to coax this little child. No one can imagine the pain he had to undergo in his childhood. So, Gianna and her team always made sure to make him happy and treat one another as real siblings.
"I had. You should also have it soon. Take care of your health, G. I will hang up now. You continue with your work. Bye," said Roberto with slight disappointment. He wanted to talk to Gianna and relieve his unnecessary thoughts, but he knew he should not disturb Gianna during work hours. Before Gianna could speak, Roberto hung up the call.
"Robbie is sad for some reason. I couldn't talk to him properly. What should I do?" mumbled Gianna as she walked to the department room to finalize the surgery dates. "Good work, everyone. We will wind up here. Have your dinner soon, and contact me if there is an emergency, as I am going to my apartment." The residents nodded, and the group separated to resume their respective work.
