A Window Into the Past (3) - 61

A/N: (This is a note that I added a few minutes after publishing the original chapter) Alright, I can't believe I have to say this again, but please fucking read the damn novel with your fucking eyes open please before writing a fucking dumbass bad review about how the MC is weak whilst giving 3 shit reasons about why it makes no sense that the MC is weak. He's weak cause he wasn't allowed to train mana, and he can't use his demon powers yet because he hasn't turned into a demon yet! Wow! Mind blowing, right? And, what's this about how the original Villain was able to fight against Eve but MC can't? The original Villain had the fucking broken copy power okay? MC doesn't so he's weaker, you got it?

On another note, I'd like to thank Ayries_Jesea for pointing out a plot hole in the beginning of the novel. But also, fuck you Ayries, for not being able to read the damn novel with your eyes open and leaving that dumb ass review. Cough, cough, I mean, anyways, the plot hole was the reason why the gov had tried to kill MC. Originally, it was because he was too weak, but now, I've changed it to him being too dangerous because MC could defect to another country. That's all, below is the original chapter stuff.

A/N: A Halloween themed side story that serves two purposes. Hope you enjoy and Happy Halloween!

8 Years Ago:

Interestingly, in this world, that of a novel, there was a holiday very close to the "Halloween" that I had seen people celebrate back when I was living a normal life after running away.

It was a day meant to celebrate, like all other holidays in this world, a victory that humanity had over the demons, in which a group of elite soldiers had dressed up as demons to infiltrate the Demon King's fortress during a party, and had eventually slayed the Demon King of that era.

So, this holiday was one where everybody dressed up in different costumes that looked like the human image of demons, and attended a party that each social group had.

During this party, a few persons would be randomly selected by the party's host to be the heroes, each one given candy that they would hide around the venue of the party.

Then, after all the bundles of candy had been hidden, the host would then tell all the other guests at the party to try and find the bundles of candy.

Obviously, whoever found a bundle would be able to keep it, and enjoy the candy at their own leisure.

As for the heroes, their job was to blend in with the crows as the crowd tried to search for the money, and if one of the heroes was caught as being an "imposter", the guest that pointed them out would receive another prize designated by the host of the party. Of course, the opposite was also true, and so if a hero was able to survive until the end without being found out, they were given a prize instead.

Those were the basic rules of the game, with many other rules added depending on the host of the party that you were invited to.

The prizes were also varied, as richer social circles would obviously want better gifts, and most of the time, the host would have one venue for the children, with the traditional bundles of candy, but there would also be another venue for the adults, where the bundles had much fancier items in them.

And yes, the bundles all looked the same if you were wondering, just the contents inside the bundle would be different.

In the case of the traditions of this world, "bundles" were hollow orange balls that were traditionally made of wood, although they, once again, could be made of something else depending on how much money the host had.

Alright, that was enough explaining, now, onto the story.

This year, my sister and I had chosen to dress up as twin demons, with both of us dyeing our hair red, and Eve having a horn on the left hemisphere of her head, whilst I had a horn on the right hemisphere of my head.

Wearing little butler uniforms, we had been praised endlessly by our maids as we stood there next to each other, holding each other's hands tightly, lowering out heads under the endless torrent of compliments about how cute we both were.

Well, I actually only lowered my head because I thought that was what a kid would do, and Eve probably thought the same after seeing that I had done it, quickly copying me as to not look suspicious.

//You know, you truly do look cute.//

//Stop it!... It's weird wearing this...//

//Black and white fits you, it truly allows your face to gleam above the rest.//

//It's not like you aren't the same.//

//But, in my eyes, you will always be cuter than me, little sis.//

//And you will always be a nerdy brat, Oppa.//

Smiling at each other, feeling a little bit calmed down after out playful banter, we intertwined our fingers and walked forwards through the door in front of us, into the venue for adults.

Yes, our "dad' hadn't even allowed us to participate in the kid's game, each and every single year, we had been told to play with the adults.

But, what do you know? With my amazing intellect, and Eve's uncanny instincts, we had been able to sus out almost every single one of the heroes each year, and each of us were always able to find one of the bundles, each earning a hefty reward from our dad.

That was why we always looked forward to this holiday, as we were always able to benefit from it.

//Let's go.//

Nodding her head, she allowed herself to be pulled along, as I immediately let the crowd swallow our bodies whole.

And, well, almost immediately after we entered, we were able to sus out one of the heroes, as we clearly saw them hide one of the bundles in a chandelier.

So, after a silent argument, it was decided that Eve would go grab the bundle, having won a game of rock paper scissors over our mental connection.

"Eieeeeeeee!"

Suddenly hearing my dear sister's scream, I immediately turned my head in her direction, as I had previously been looking for more heroes, seeing that a swarm of bats had congregated around her face.

Anyways, later on, we would learn that it was just an illusion that the hero had used to make things a little more fun, but my sister had fainted, as she apparently had a huge fear of bats.

Catching her before she fell to the ground, I princess carried her outside of the venue, sitting on a bench in a quiet corner of the garden, basking the both of us in the pale light of the moon.

Being the sis-con that I was, I started stroking her face whilst staring at her intently, falling into a trance as I admired her cuteness.

"Mmmm..."

Slightly mumbling in her dazed state, she slowly started awakening again due to my gentle caresses.

Finding herself in my arms, she tried to get away at first, turning a little crimson red in embarrassment after remembering how she had ended up in my arms in the first place, before succumbing to the pleasure of feeling another's, specifically, my warmth.

So, instead, she repositioned herself in a way that her ear was positioned right beside my heart, as the rest of her body curled up on top of my lap.

Then, we both looked up at the sky, admiring it, whilst also admiring the company of the other.

In the end, there were no words needed to be exchanged between us, as we let all materialistic desires fade away, only wanting the presence of the other at that moment.
