Stiles and I breezed through the protection spells. They didn't take long, but by the time we were finished, we were both beyond exhausted. Everything that has been going on is definitely wearing on all of us. We're no exception. I know that we're stronger together, I just wish that Stiles and I had time to figure out what our spark means, before the shit all hit the fan. I mean, yeah, we're taking everything on day at a time, but it would be nice to feel like we had the upper-hand for once.
After lying in bed for hours, staring at the ceiling, I gave up on trying to sleep. I tried to sneak out of bed, so I wouldn't wake Stiles, but he woke up, as soon as my feet hit the floor.
"Can't sleep?" He asked me, sleepily. I looked over at him and nodded.
"You should, though. We shouldn't both be running on fumes." I teased. An adorable, tired smile graced his face. He glanced at the clock and grimaced.
"I should see if Lydia wants any help. I doubt she's slept…" He frowned. I nodded.
"I was actually going to check on her. I'm worried, not just about her, but everything. And I know that she's putting all this pressure on herself to crack this thing." I sighed.
"It'll be okay. It has to be." He got out of bed and kissed me. I wrapped my hands around his waist and kissed him back. He pulled away and pressed his lips to my forehead and held me for a minute, before ending our embrace. "Come on. Let's get some breakfast and check on our favorite redhead." He said with more enthusiasm, than I thought possible this early in the morning. I laughed and followed him into the kitchen. I saw Lydia typing away feverously at the dining room table. It doesn't look like she's had any luck or slept at all. "I'll whip up some breakfast." Stiles offered. I nodded and crouched down next to Lydia. She looked up at me and her fingers paused and hovered over her keyboard.
"Have you been up all night?" I asked her, quietly. She nodded and rubbed a hand over her face. "You have to sleep, Lyds." I reminded her.
"I haven't made any progress, Bonnie. I don't know what I'm gonna do." She sighed.
"You'll get it, but maybe you should take a little break and get a nap in. You're gonna snap, if you don't rest, doll." I told her, gently. She looked like she wanted to argue, but she just nodded instead.
"The eggs'll be done in a few minutes. Eat a little breakfast and while you're sleeping, I'll work on cracking that thing. Okay? And when you're up, I'll help. There's no way we're going to school today." Stiles insisted. Lydia started to say something, but I shook my head.
"Even you need help sometimes. Let him help you. Okay?" I rubbed her shoulder and she nodded.
"Okay," she finally gave him. Well, that's one thing down and a million more to go.
We went through breakfast without a hitch. I tackled the dishes, while Stiles looked over the progress that Lydia had gotten through. They didn't take nearly as long as I had hoped. It helps to stay busy. It gives me less to think about. I walked through the house to check on everyone. Chris was talking with some hunters and they were coming up with different strategies and game plans. Peter and Derek were whispering about something and stopped, as soon as I walked into the room. Derek looked tensed and Peter looked like he was on his last nerve.
"Why don't you get some air, Derek?" I suggested. "Or maybe see if Klaus has anything new?" I added. He nodded and got up. He grabbed my shoulder and squeezed it reassuringly as he left the room. He glanced at me and nodded to the door, questioningly. I nodded and he closed it behind him. I looked at Peter. I don't know what it was about his encounter with Kate, but I'm worried. She did a lot more than get under his skin. That bitch played Derek, seduced him, as a child and burned his family alive. Anyone who could do that would definitely throw me off of my game. "Are you okay?" I asked him, quietly. He looked up at me, surprised. I knew that my question had caught him off guard. "Don't give me some BS answer, either, Peter." I warned him, before he could even try. His shoulders sagged and for the first time in my life, he looked defeated. That scared me. Peter is a lot of things, but he never struck me as someone who would give up or ever really be beaten. Yeah, he's a creeper, but he's strong and I'm thankful as fuck that he's on our side.
"I… don't know." He admitted, softly. I moved next to him and sat down on the floor and leaned against him. He flinched, like it was the last thing that he was expecting me to do.
"Well, you're not alone in this. And if she tries to come after you, I'll kill her and I'll make sure she stays dead this time. I promise." I whispered. A soft vibration moved through his body and I realized that he was chuckling.
"I don't doubt that. It surprises me, but there is no doubt in my mind that you would follow your word." He sighed. "Kate is not your fight, sweetheart."
"If she threatens my pack or attacks someone in my pack, then it becomes my fight. You're pack, Peter. Whether you like it or not, we're on the same side. You can act as tough as you want to, but I have your back and everyone else in our pack has your back, too. They might not ever admit it, but we all appreciate having you on our side. Yeah, you may not always do something, unless it benefits you somehow, but you're here when it counts and that's what matters. That means something, Peter. You mean something. I'll find a way to get rid of Kate. I know that Chris wouldn't have a problem with it. He doesn't agree with innocents dying. I don't either." I lamented. Peter looked at me, quizzically. "She's not innocent. Kate hasn't been innocent for a long time."
"You really do care; don't you?" He asked me, softly. I nodded.
"Do you even have to ask?" I stared at him. "You're stronger than she is. I know that you don't have your alpha power right now, but you have the makings for an alpha. You're a natural leader, Peter. You're protective and strategic. You're an asset. We'll come up with something. I know we're all against… so many things, but Kate isn't going to beat us. She's taken enough from you… from Derek… already."
"Thank you, Bonnie." He reached an arm over and hugged me to his side. I nodded.
"Don't thank me, Peter. We haven't made it through this yet." I reminded him. He smirked. "Have you slept at all?" I asked him. He shook his head. "So you and Derek were up all night talking?" I pressed. He nodded. "Did it help?"
"More or less," he replied, evasively. I rolled my eyes.
"You should try to sleep. I'm gonna go check on everyone else." I pushed myself up, off of the floor.
"I may have underestimated you, when you first came to Beacon Hills, sweetheart. But, there is no doubt in my mind that you were meant to be here. You are an asset to us all." Peter gave me the closest thing to a smile that I've seen on his face, since I've lived here.
"Sleep," I reminded him, before leaving him to rest.
