Prologue

I looked around to see that I was at that horrifying place where it all started. A place which ruined my family. Trees everywhere and the bright big moon above, mocking me of all the events that occurred in the particular dreadful night.

I was overcome with guilt and sadness as I heard her say. "You're the only one who can put a stop to this disaster Ian. I know you can do this. You just have to believe in yourself."

Her voice is almost a whisper carried by the light breeze. She looked worried, desperate almost. Her tall frame over shadowed mine as I looked into a her bright blue eyes.

"I don't think I can. I'm not as strong or as powerful as you think. I'm just a normal warewolf. I only want a happy, average life with my mate. Have kids and grow old together."

My voice grew louder at the end of the sentence as tears started flowing unwillingly from my eyes.

Who am I trying to convince? Even though all I wanted was to have a normal life, my powers make it impossible for me to even think of such a thing.

I felt a pang in my chest as my heart broke with the possibility of never being able to have a normal life again.

"I know it's hard for you Ian. But I'll always be here for you and your mate is with you as well. I know it's not what you want but it's necessary for the future of the Warewolf community."

She looked at me sympathetically as I uttered my next words a bit harsher than I wanted.

"How do you know? How do you know that I can do this? Why do you believe in me so much? Why do you believe in my abilities?"

I ask her all the questions that I have been dying to ask, frustrated and angry at my situation. I never asked for any of this but I have been relentlessly put into this life threatening situation without any of my consent.

I took a deep breath as I asked her the last question, anxiety filling me up to the brim.

"Who are you?" I say, my voice almost a whisper.

She stared at me for a couple of minutes as I anticipated her answer, hoping it isn't what I think it is.

"Because I chose you Ian. I know because I gave you those powers. I know because I am the..."

She stopped and took a deep breath in before saying the next few words that left me shocked and dumbstruck.
