  The Restaurant

  Before he heard the quick clicks of her heels against the floor, Rafik saw her reflection in the window that overlooked the city. And when he turned to face her, his eyes teared instantly. “You look radiant as always, my love.”

  In typical Tessa fashion, she wore a black dress and shoes with the long string of black pearls Haldir bought her when she turned sixteen. “Thank you. I’m so happy you came tonight, Rafik.”

  He brought her hand to his mouth, and his soft lips rubbed her skin when he nodded. “Yes, so am I.”

  While he guided her jacket up her arms, she peeked over her shoulder to see him. “Where are we going this time of night? I doubt we’ll be able to get seated anywhere.”

  The door swung open, and the side of his mouth curled as he motioned outside with his hand. “You will see. I have taken care of everything.”
