"Come on sweetie let's get you home," says Maxine picking up Trina and placing her on her hip.
We headed home and took Trina into one of the spare rooms. Tomorrow her and Maxine were going to paint it pink and go shopping so that Trina would have everything her heart desired. She was so excited but I knew when the time came for the funeral that sweet smile would fade. I wasn't looking forward to it. I didn't want to see her cry.
I read her a bedtime story and we both tucked her in for the night.
Maxine looked so happy I couldn't resist the urge to tease her.
"You look good with a kid on your hip," I told her playfully although I meant it.
I grabbed her from behind and my hand went up under her shirt and brushed across her stomach.
"But you're going to look even better when you're carrying mine right here," I whispered.
She blushed like I knew she would. I couldn't help but laugh because she was too cute.
She slapped my hand away smiling.
