Acting Up

Bullshit— that was what the man's mouth was filled with.

If her fists weren't this tiny, she would have packed up a nice punch against those chubby cheeks of his.

When her mother tried to order food, he brought in his misogyny, saying how women should lay low on meat and stick to vegetable. Apparently, weight gain didn't look flattering on women.

The audacity he had to say that when he looked like a pig!

Little Eve of course didn't hold herself back from defending her mouth. She sneered although rather than menacing, it came off as adorable.

"Mom, he is right. You should eat less or else what if you look like Mr. Pig. Wait! Is that his name? Mister, what's your name? I forgot about it," Evelyn innocently said before shifting her gaze on to Richard.

She blinked her doe, round eyes at him, waiting for his answer.

"You!" Richard exclaimed, pointing his finger out at her. He was enraged at the disrespect.

Her daughter's antic amused Amelia. Holding back the laugh, she wore a strict expression and chided Evelyn: "Baby, you should respect the adults. Behave yourself, alright? And you can't go around people pigs. Got it?"

Evelyn nodded her head.

After this, Amelia focused her attention on Richard.

"Mr. Richard, I am sorry. Evelyn is a child and spoiled by me. Please overlook this."

Disgruntled, he complied.

Even though her mother stuck with ordering salad, Evelyn ordered as many meat dishes as she could. She pointed towards all meat dishes she noticed.

"Evelyn, baby, you wouldn't be able to eat that much. It is not good to waste food," said Amelia gently.

This made Evelyn hesitate.

Although she wanted to act out, her mother was right. Wasting food wasn't proper.

"Then, this, this, and that one too. If I can't eat them, you can finish them for me, right, Mom?" she pleadingly spoke. There was no way she would let her mom starve due to this infuriating man.

"I suppose so."

And after saying all this, he had the audacity to order more. During the time their meal was being prepared, he started boosting about himself. Apparently, he was a good catch, and women flocked around him. He started to go on about his income status.

Evelyn had boredom overtake her.

In order to not listen to this nonsense, she reached out for her tablet and placed it on the table. She then turned it on and selected a game to play. When she was trying to pass through the level, the instructions confused her.

That's why, she grabbed on to her mother's sleeve and pulled it.

"Mom, Mom, can you explain this to me?"

"Excuse me."

Saying that to Richard, Amelia faced her daughter and asked, "What is it?"

Pushing her tablet to Amelia, Evelyn voiced out, "This. What does it mean?"

And Amelia did.

Once she got it, Evelyn went back to playing the game, and then an incredible idea hit her. On the courtesy of it, she started to call her mom every other second for help.

"Mom, how do you pronounce this word?"

"Can you help me with this round? I can't seem to pass it?"

"Mom, what are they asking for?"

These questions of her prevented Richard from holding a proper conversation with her mom, and not having to hear his annoying voice made her feel pleased.

From the corner of her eyes, she could see the anger in his eyes. He even boldly directed a glare at her. She knew he was close to bursting out.

Therefore, as her mom was looking at her tablet, she flashed an innocent grin in his direction.

What prevented him from going off was the waiter arriving with the food. The delicious smell of the food wafted in the air, almost making her stomach growl.

Finally, she was getting to eat, not having to watch the man devour like a hungry beast.

As Evelyn concentrated on her food, she stopped interrupting her mom and Richard. Her mind was too occupied by the delicious food. But what brought her attention back to Richard and her mom was the mention of marriage.

"Let's get married by weekend. There is no need to have more meetings. I got to know all there is to you, and same goes for you too. And there is no need to make fancy arrangements.

This is your second marriage after all, and it is a waste of money. However, for marriage, there are things you should keep in mind or else I have to disagree to this.

You should know that with your condition you wouldn't find better option. Who would want a divorced woman with such a big child? On top of that, your daughter hasn't been taught any manners. Truly a burden."

Amelia clenched her hand tightly around the fork in her hand before voicing out, "Indeed. I am not worthy of you. That's why—"

Before she could carry on, the man cut her off.

"Glad you understand that. You are a sensible woman, Ms. Amelia. After marriage, I expect you to resign from your job. A woman's job is to stay at home and take care of the family. My parents stay with me, and I need you to be respectful to them. This—"

Unable to hear his nonsense any longer, Evelyn dropped her stained spoon on her mother's skirt, staining it. A gasp left her mouth.

"Mom, I am sorry," she said, "you should go and wash it."

Amelia nodded.

"Then, if you excuse me, Mr. Richard, I will go to the washroom."

"Go ahead."

Amelia then got up and looked at her daughter. Evelyn smiled at her mom and reassured, "I will be fine here, Mom. Come back quickly."
