Testing it Out

**************

CHAPTER 34

Taking his leave from Raven's room, Xavier appeared in his room and proceeded to take a seat on his big bed, while gently moving his palm on the bedsheet.

Today had started off as normal as it could get but with the things happening… Although he could not complain about it at this point, he faced something way worse ten thousand years ago.

But now that he had woken up, all he wished to do was lazy around a bit.

Thinking about it, he recalled he had an unfinished business to carry out. He was about testing out Xander's ring when he got a message concerning Sky's breach and abandoned everything.

He lifted his left hand with his eyes fixed on the ring on his finger and followed the instruction Xander gave.

Surprisingly even after calling thrice, he got no response.

"Enh? Did he lie to me or what?" Xavier questioned.

He was sure Xander didn't like to him but for the fact that it did not work this time, then something was definitely wrong.

"Wait? Am I not doing this the right way?" He tilted his head to the side a bit while carefully accessing the ring for any hint whatsoever.

"Hmm, he said to call his name thrice, right…"

He paused in his speech as his eyes narrowed at the ring on his finger.

Like a new piece of information, his mind reeled in the memories of that day and the direction Xander gave him.

The more his thoughts took him down memory lane, the more his eyes widened at his mistake and he shook his head.

'He said call out his name calmly. And I didn't. Now I really wish to know who in their right mind made such an item. What has it got to do with how the name is called?"

"I am sorry to say, Your Majesty but the ring of Astrid is a lover's item, used between lovers separated by distance to communicate heartfelt feelings to one another."

Xavier's eyes went wide instantly upon understanding the truth behind the item he wore.

He was least disturbed about the voice in his head at this moment as he was familiar by it.

That was the divine tree and how she communicated with him.

Quickly he pushed his left hand down as though the sheet thought of the item repulsed him.

"Lover's item? What was Xander thinking for him to gift that to me?" Xavier inquired from the divine tree.

"I am guessing the young Lord Blade wanted to be sure he knew you were safe at all times. Do not be repulsed by the gift or the intention."

"Fine," Xavier responded after pondering on the matter. "I would give it a try,"

"That is better, Your Majesty. In everything you do, always think about it from a different mindset."

"Noted. Thanks."

Saying that, Xavier lifted his hand in front of his face once more and called out Xander's name softly.

"Xander. Xander, Xander."

To his surprise at the third call, the ring lit up and instantly a face was projected out to his vision.

"Your Majesty?" Xavier heard the face call out as more more about his surrounding was shown.

"Finally, it worked."

"Pardon?"

Sensing Xander's ignorance on the matter, Xavier cleared his throat quickly. "Yes, Xander. how are you?"

"Greetings, Your Majesty. I am fair, thank you. I see things are going smoothly for you, huh?"

"Yes. Good thing, I did more movement and appeared in places I have marked. I arrived a few minutes before King Jared arrived from the meeting."

"Hmm you are lucky. By the way, do you perhaps know the conclusion from their meeting?"

"Currently, no. No one knows now. However, I am sure we would soon. Regardless, it is obvious that whatever the outcome was, King Jared wasn't happy about it."

"Should I rejoice?" Xavier's low voice questioned out of the blue."

A low chuckled fell off of Xander's lips. From where he was in his chambers, he could see Xavier's slightly amused face.

Just watching him feel relaxed about the whole situation made him feel happy. He had wondered what he would be doing in his absence.

"Umm, not now, Your Majesty. You need to be prepared. Also the fact that you took Zephyr's daughter is reason enough for them to attack you."

"I know. Oh speaking of which. There are somethings I would have loved to ask you about concerning her."

"As you wish Your Majesty. I would do all I can to answer."

"Okay. First question, why haven't you asked me about my reasons for keeping her with me, until now?"

For a moment there Xander remained silent as he thought on the best way to answer Xavier.

He did not want him to doubt his loyalty and also he wished he would let Raven go to prevent any quick battles with the kingdom.

Knowing him, he was not afraid to battle but that was in the past and he needed his people to trust him again.

At this point he would not be able to win his people's trust if he could keep one of them hostage. This singular reason, Jared could capitalize on it and turn the people's minds against him.

"You want my honest answer, Your Majesty?'

"Yes."

"I respect you enough to trust your judgement. I do not know the reason why you captured her in the first place. First I sincerely hope it isn't as an hostage to request for the throne back from King Jared."

"No. I would never use anyone as an hostage."

Having crossed out that answer, Xander was left speechless. He had hopefully expected that to be the answer.

If it was, then things may be easier to resolve but if not...

He breathed out sharply as he brought his right hand up to his forehead and gently massaged his temples. By the time he raised his head up again, the look in his eyes turned serious, better than how relaxed he had been just a minute back.

"Then might I ask why?"

"It is personal to be honest. I just need to confirm somethings."

"Then afterwards would you be letting her go?"

"That I cannot tell." He heard Xander released a deep breath and could guess what he was thinking.

Yes his reasons and way if thinking did not make sense but how was he going to expect that he sensed his late wife in a girl after ten thousand years. Yet it wasn't like she was reincarnated in her.

Their souls was different. That he was so sure of.

"Your majesty, this is of dire importance. Her freedom means so much and tells so much. Besides you have taken her from her home and people. You do not..."

"If I told you I love her would you believe?"

Xander blinked severally at the projected image before him.

Judging from the look in his eyes, he could tell he was not joking. But the question playing at the back of Xander's mind was, was he truly serious? He had only known and met Raven. How could he possibly fall in love with her?

"Excuse me?"

"Have you got hale in your ears?"

For the second time that afternoon, Xander was left speechless and stunned by the words coming out of this king's mouth.

Suddenly a loud chuckle broke him out of his stupor. Bringing his confused gaze back to Xavier's projected image, his brows drew close together and he let his thoughts stop wondering.

At this point it was useless trying to figure him out.

"Your Majesty?"

"Hahhaa, those were the words your Zephyr's daughter said to me."

"Wait, which of them?"

"I do not understand. Which other?"

"What I mean your grace is, Is she in love with you or was it the hale in your ears?"

"Hale of course. How do you expect either of us to fall in love with each other, Xander?"

"But you just said..."

"I was joking," Xavier cut in. "It is a bit more complicated than that to be honest."

"Then try me, Your Majesty. I know we have only just met and you may not readily trust me but I..."

"I trust you, Xander. It may be hard to believe but it feels like I have known you all my life and I trust you."

Once again, he left Xander completely out of it. Words could not describe the kind of joy swirling inside of him.

It was an honour to be trusted by someone such as Xavier. Right now he believed his mother's prophecy even more.

"Okay, please can I know the real reason, Your Majesty? That way I may best advise you on what I think because currently it isn't looking good for you in anyway. And your people too."

"I do not mind that. I honestly do not mind anything at this point. She is worth the risk."

"Your..."

"Do not worry, Xavnder," Xavier interjected. "Let me tell you the reason why. I may sound ridiculous but she was the reason why I awakened."

"What?"
