Stubborn Xavier

CHAPTER 35

Xander could not believe the words he had heard. Although the news spread wide in the kingdom that perhaps Raven had awakened the Dragon King and brought about such a mishap.

However, no matter what was said, even the higher-ups did not take it to heart.

There had to be a reason why she was captured. Perhaps because she saw him first and warned everyone.

Then again, that very first suspicion never died down. And being who he was, Xander chose not to believe in rumours but facts.

Sadly, there was no time to investigate the matter thoroughly as he should considering he had to assist the people in escaping.

Who would have thought she did it?

With eyes darting from place to place, Xander finally let out his inner thoughts. The one question he needed an answer to the most.

"How?"

"Good. I am glad you have calmed your senses down," Xavier noted, deep sighing.

"I am sorry, Your Majesty. I am… I mean the words you said got me," Xander explained, briefly.

"Sigh. What are you, twelve?"

"No."

"Anyways, when I said she awakened me, I did not mean she broke the seal or anything. She foolishly stumbled in and her presence woke me. Well, you can call it fate."

"But how would her presence do that when she has nothing to do with you?" Xander inquired.

"She…" he closed his eyes and let his hand drop down on the bed. "I sensed her."

"Her? How? Raven? Yes, you said so just now."

"No. Not her. I felt my wife in her. My mate was calling out to me somehow. I know it doesn't make sense but that is the truth. I could feel it when she was hurt as well. And even now, I still feel her energy from within her. However, they are two different people."

"Wait. I believe you. I believe it as well. After all, you did feel my great, great grandfather in him."

"Yours was different. I could tell you two were different but for her, it felt like Saphira was there. With me in the cave and I guess my presence scared her and she ran but I got the strength to break the already weakening seal and that was how I was set free."

"I see. Well, she is both innocent and indirectly not. And I am guessing that was why you took her captive, to find out how she is related to the late queen, right?"

"Yes. I need to know. Which is why I am asking, how is she a rainbow dragon? I am sure they were extinct, aren't they?"

"Oh, you know about that too. Well, she is the first to appear after ten thousand years. It is a shocker for most of us. But then miracles happen. I guess it was time for another rainbow dragon to exist."

"True, that can be said. However, her father is a mage. Do you know anything about her mother's lineage?"

"No. None of us knows anything about that. Her mother was a dragon living alone or so we heard. And she died about a year or so after she was born."

"I see."

"Yes, but many believe she could not have been a rainbow dragon herself. Basically, her case is a rare one and she is lucky. I guess that is why even though her father is a dragon warlock, he protects his daughter as though she was worth all the gold in the world."

"Interesting. He cherishes her, and I have my eyes set on her."

"This would mean war, your majesty," Xander quickly cautioned.

"Not only would he not take this lying down, but he also has King Jared's backing as this spell out trouble for them. It shows your direct insult to his reign, I suppose."

"Well, I never hid that fact. They may have done well in the past in leading my people when I let my anger take control. However, I never ruled and treated any clan without respect. None of my people deserves that."

"That is a good one there, Your Majesty but there is something I must say."

"Go on."

"To gain your people's trust, you may have to hand over the lady, Raven, to her father."

A deadpan silence overshadowed their conversation instantly to Xander's disappointment.

He needed him to respond as this was a very crucial matter but instead got nothing.

Avoiding the topic was not going to get anyone anywhere and it would be bad for an all-out war just because of a woman or the probability that she had something to do with his late wife.

He could not bring himself to accept this kind of fate for him.

"I am sorry, no one's trust is worth more than having Saphira back," Xavier's cold voice came out softly but when he lifted his eyes, Xander could see the clear signs of him not backing down.

"She is just one woman. And there is no guarantee that Her Majesty would come back. It had already been ten thousand years since her death."

"What?" Xavier's eyes crinkled as his chest began to rise with great effort.

"Yes. You have awakened, why ruin it all again for one female…"

"She is not just one female!" Xavier hollered in rage, letting his emotions spiral out of control.

"Or any female for that matter. Need I remind you that she was my queen and above all, she was my MATE."

He snarled at him through the ring, ignoring the change in his eyes as his fangs protruded out while his body began to change.

"Your Majesty."

"She is not, just anyone. For her, I can turn the world to hell once more. Anything to bring her back, Xander. Anything."

Both of them remained silent, save for the heavy beating of their hearts in their chest and their laboured breaths.

After some seconds, Xander felt he could speak and have Xavier listen. Prying his lips, he started when Xavier cut him off. "But…"

"This conversation is over. Nothing you say or do would throw me off my resolve."
