Magic is Real

"Hello child." the elderly woman replied, "Are Mr and Mrs. Ward home right now? I have a very important conversation to have with them."

Nicholas was confused as to why this woman wanted to speak with his parents but thought nothing much of it.

"Those happen to be my parents" He replied jokingly, "They're in the dining room. Follow me and I'll guide you there." He then proceeded to show the woman her way to the dining room.

Mr. and Mrs. Ward were surprised to see Nicholas bring an elderly woman inside their home so suddenly.

"Nicholas Ward, what did I say about doing things without asking for permission?" Mr. Ward asks in a hard voice.

"Sorry father but she seemed to genuinely want to speak with the both of you. As a matter of fact, I forgot to ask your name Ms.?"

She answered, "Ms. Minerva McGonagall and don't worry about introducing yourself since I happen to know who you are Mr. Nicholas Ward. Is it possible for you to give your parents and I some room to talk about your future?"

"Sure, I'll just be in the other room. Just holler at me if you need me." With that reply he walked out of the room thinking 'Mcgonagall? Where did I hear that name from. It sounds awfully familiar. THE LETTER! What if this is a prank? I have to warn mum and father about this.'

As soon as he decided to go back into the room he can hear arguing going on inside the room. Surprised, he decided to wait until everything was over so as soon as they called him back he opened the door and saw his mum had a shocked face and his father had a grim one.

"Mr. Nicholas Ward, do you mind if you and I talk now about your future?" asked Ms. Mcgonagall.

"No problem?" he nervously answered as he walked with her to another room.

"Now Mr. Ward, you see here I was sent here to..." instead of letting her finish Nicholas interrupts her,

" Ms. McGonagall, there is no need for formalities. Instead of being all strict like my father, I decided to take a lighter approach with people. So please call me Nicholas." he smiled while saying this.

"Of course...Nicholas." She said while confused about why he wanted to be so different from his father, Mcgonagall nevertheless smiles barely at this.

"As I was saying...I am here to inform you that you've been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry." She finished saying, but while saying this, Nicholas' face seemed to grow grimmer instead of the usual shock or disbelief Mcgonagall sees on other children's faces when they receive this news.

'So I was right about her name being the same as the one from the strange letter." Nicholas thought, "Is this some kind of joke? A school of magic? I've been taught my entire life that magic isn't real and you show up and invite me to a school of magic? I'm not sure if I like this joke Ms. Mcgonagall."

"No no, Nicholas, this is not a joke at all. I am quite serious. Here, let me demonstrate a bit of magic for you." said Ms. Mcgonagall as she took out a thin stick out of her robes.

'Why would Nicholas be so against magic?' Mcgonagall thought as she then transformed the chair that was next to them to a tabby cat and then back to a chair.

Nicholas' eyes slightly widened but quickly regained their original stormy look. A barely perceptible feeling of a past memory he only felt when the unexplained happen surfaced but was quickly squashed down.

"So if what you just did and a magic school is real, and if I'm qualified to attend that school, what will happen now?" Nicholas questioned Mcgonagall after much internal debate.

"I'm glad you asked. We at Hogwarts are hoping that you can attend our school for special individuals. Special individuals just like you. Us magical folk are rarely seen by non-magical people referred to as muggles to ensure our safety. Long ago, magical folk were hunted down by people and in turn, a law was created where wizards are prohibited to show magic to muggles and the statue of secrecy was made.

With this explanation Nicholas had a chord struck within him.

'So this probably means that I'm a wizard huh?' he sighs inwardly.

"Well, so what did my parents have to say about this?" he asks Mrs. Mcgonagall.

"While your father was against it, I had to tell him that if you don't learn to control your magic, dangerous things might happen and more cautionary measures will have to take place. Your mother on the other hand was disbelieved at first, but slowly came to accept it once I demonstrated magic." Mcgonagall explained as she got up from her chair getting ready to leave.

"Well it seems like I going to attend Hogwarts after all. Please take care of me while I'm over there."

Ms. Mcgonagall replied, "Of course Nicholas...I'll have you know now that I teach Transfiguration over at Hogwarts and the Head of the Gryffindor House. I do hope that you join us lions soon. Also, we will have to get your things for school a bit later yes? So I will go with you to a place where almost all witches and wizards get their school supplies."

"Thank you for giving me this opportunity Ms. Mcgonagall." Nicholas said sincerely. He finally accepted for who he is and can't help but be excited for his future at this magical school.

"I'll see you tomorrow then?"

"Yes Nicholas. I'll be sure to guide you properly." She said with a smile this time and left the front door.

Nicholas was curious as to how magical people traveled but when he went outside to look for Ms. Mcgonagall, she was gone.
