Life must go on

When Esme was younger it now seems a long time ago. It was only a few years back that her father was so much more doting and loving than he became at present . As Esme was wondering why her father had abandoned his previous affections towards her she speculated what could be the cause of her fathers personality change. She was wondering if he had a love interest as a woman could cause her father to become a diffent person especially a man like her father.

Especially now that she needed someone loving that she could confide in all her doughts about things and that is where she now missed her father's love because her husbands personality and his way of being told her he was a bad choice of a husband for her. She just wanted to tell her father that her new husband and his present actions seemed rather strange as he was pondering over lots of papers every night wasting precious candles . This papers seemed to be maps and diaries her husband was supposed to be tired at night but he studied this maps of his instead of coming to bed. When she got a chance to say this to her father after commissioning a coachman to take her to her father's office at the Castle. He was not pleased to see her and angrily told her to go back home and not come and bother him about petty happenings at her homestead, in fact he got up from his desk and shoved her out of his office saying "Go and take care of your homestead and stop bothering me as I have no interest what you and your husband is up to!"

Although he was abrupt with Esme the Acting Governor was going to get to the bottom of this information his daughter brought him he was going to speak to his son-in-law and maybe even threaten him but a plan was forming in his mind he had to summon the lad to his office and that is when he called in his Captain of the brigade and ordered him to bring the unfortunate lad to his office .

After all that the current situation where everyone in the colony seems to be walking on eggshells .

The past made her think the world of her father who was now a very efficient and compitant Acting Governor of this Colony. A position he very much wanted to make permanent as he saw the Cape of Goodhope as his permanent home . It was with this mindset that he was definitely not going to let an unknown person ruin his chances in future social circles so it was quite logical for him to secretly buy a Countdom for his new son-in-law.

It was lucky for him he had purchased a few Countdoms a few years back but he first wanted his new son-in-law to suffer under the hot son before he had him summoned to the Castle as that was where the governor had his official office and headquarters set up to govern the Colony. It was with this mindset that he ordered the lad to his office sending the Captain to fetch his son-in-law to urgently come to his office at the Castle.

This Castle was built in the 1660s and the Dutch who built it did an excellent job of building a very sound and beautiful structure. with the beautiful blue table mountain in the background and excellent beautiful gardens it had a stately feel to the whole structure.

The homestead that the Acting Governor's daughter was occupying was in Constancia and that was close to the Table mountain side but further from the sea. It was a small but beautiful place. Small compared to the Acting Governor's own homestead , he also had quarters at the Castle where his present lady love lived with him. This lady was being kept a secret as the Acting Governor was a stickler for social norms of the day and he was not going to let people see what he was all about. This Acting Governor was going to play by the rules and in turn for seeming good behaviour and etiquette he could become the permanent Governor appointed by King George as his ambitious nature wanted this post at all cost to become a permanent comition and this called for a cunning method of directing his plans.

His daughter loved gardening which is why he provided her with the present homestead that he knew would be adequate for his daughter's usage. Well his Lordship Sir Erald Barnsworth made sure his daughter was going to be very happy with the beautiful home he had built for her it was the least he could do seeing that he was actually going to make her life very difficult or there was the possibility she could fall in love with the scoundrel she has married to and maybe his plan to use his new son-in-law could still work.

It was here at this very homestead that morning after 4 weeks being a very reluctant son-in-law that Eric Phantone was reluctantly going out to the pastures again when he was stopped by the Captain. Esme was standing in the doorway of the homestead when the Captain came galloping up to the driveway . His magnificent horse was quite a sight to behold as he exuded masculine dominance when he dismounted from his horse. This irritated Eric quite a bit especially when his new wife seemed way too interested in this fob of a Captain. What was so special that had his wife smiling with the idiotic Captain. forcibly intercepted her reluctant husband she wondered what he wanted this time of the morning.

The Captain was instructed by the Acting Governor who was her father to fetch his son-in-law and ask him to valentary follow the Captain to the Castle.

Life is harder here in the Cape of Goodhope than in Europe or England maybe its the slow pace of the new world verses the old. Esme enjoyed this slow paced life as she was overjoyed to see very little of her new grumpy husband. At first she thought him dashing and handsome as she did take a few interested glances his way but now she just wanted to shout at him to stop winning like a child.

Esme was extremely curious as to what her father wanted to speak to her husband about she practically burned with curiosity but it had to wait for his return but maybe her hapless husband would not even tell her all and this frustrated her quite a lot....
