Chapter 6 : THE STORY CONTINUES..

Fetching water became part of our duties from the first day, meanwhile they can easily call a plumber man to fix the pipes that supplies water round the building but they didn't.

It was later that I got the information about his reasons for not fixing the pipes, his reasons was because his tenants refused paying the certain amount of money he asked them to pay for the fixing of the pipes, but it was something that he could single handedly fix as the owner of the house, moreover the money was there and he is not training any one again all his children are graduates and they are all doing well as we saw.

Instead he chose to ignore it forever and suffer the boys that come to work for him, to me it wasn't anything at all, I never thought of it twice, it was nothing compared to the kind of works that I've done in the village I remembered back then in the village we were the ones fetching water for people building houses or molding blocks from our local stream, sometimes with my mother and my elder sister, so I was doing it with joy as an exercise every day I never complained but the other was always complaining.

Although he was just murmuring inside he didn't say it out to their hearing, Every day after attending to the farm's and fetching water upstairs the next thing is to wash the plates and clean their own flat because it was a double flat with two rooms and parlour each, after washing and cleaning the next thing is to help my boss wife prepare the food we will eat, before we would finish everything it will be afternoon already so after preparing the food she will dish out our share of soup in one plate and she will make one and half cup of garri for the both of us.

I know that I came from a poor home quite well but I also know that my parents tried their best every day to keep food on our table and we would eat to our satisfaction after working maybe in the farm or maybe at home, the little food she started giving us from that day was terrible, it's only Sunday after church service that we normally eat well, she would make a well prepared fried rice and chicken from the freezer.

We only had good food to eat on Sundays the remaining days of the week was just miserable, it got to a point where we started buying our personal provisions and stored it in our room, it was my idea though.

The first and last instructions my boss gave the both us was never to sell eggs to any of his customers, he said that we have no business with selling of eggs or collecting of money from any of his customers, which means we have nothing to do with money in the farm entirely, we accepted and continued our duty

Sunday was just the next day I remembered we had agreement with my uncle that I will be going to my church when I was asked if I'm a Christian and I answered yes, my boss asked me if I would want to be going to my church or maybe I will be joining them to their church I didn't allow him to finish I said no that I will look for a redeem church around that area, but the other guy agreed to be joining them to their church because he had admitted that he is a Catholic and my boss is a Catholic too, so it was shared,if I work till they return from their early morning mass with the boy then I will leave the other guy to continue and complete the remaining.

So it was a good combination, my reasons for rejecting that offer was to create at least a little space for myself outside, and it did create me the space outside but something wanted to waste it but God's plans must be fulfilled whichever ways.

The first Sunday while they drove out to their early morning mass with the boy I rushed to finish my duties and helped the other boy as usual even though he wasn't there but I couldn't finish it all and they returned from the morning mass, I couldn't wait to fetch the normal turns of water I only fetched about five times then I took my bath and dressed off to church but guess where I was going to..

Remember I told you I met two of my village brothers that was working for that good and caring woman that refered me to my boss, and one of them happens to hail from the same community where I grew up and his younger brother was my classmate and also my best friend,we attended the same primary school and the same secondary school all of us.

So I had planned on using that opportunity to go and see them because they were the closest thing I had to a family then in the city, so I left the compound and told them that I was going to look for a redeem church around, I already have their location installed in my brain even though I was still a novice in the city all I knew was I can read write fluently and write clean something for anyone to be able to read and understand.

I knew where I was going as described by those my village brothers, so I had to trek from my street number 35 Oriaku street off umuatako road Aba Abia State to number 180 Aba Owerri road Aba abayi osisioma ngwa.

I got to the compound they had pointed for me..
