CHAPTER FIVE

Month later. Chamber. Hot coals are brushed across ancient engravings chiseled into a wall. Two sexy Egyptian princesses in hand-to-hand combat.

Evelyn is doing the brushing, looking quite sexy herself, having gone a bit native.

Something hisses. Evelyn looks down. Next to her foot is a big black snake. She doesn't even flinch.

"Go. Away!" Her foot hooks the snake and tosses it across the room. Jonathan comes through the door. Evelyn gestures. "Careful". she warned him.

"I've been careful until this". his eyes staring down at the black snake slips away from them. "That was one of the poisonous snakes. I learned about snakes. You don't know anything about it". He walked to her. "What is this?"

"Shall we take a look at this". she points at two sexy Egyptian princesses on the wall. He walked closer to her. "There's a story about this, like I've been in combat with someone I know".

"Exactly like that?" he asked her back.

"Exactly like that". her dimple smile shows. "Isn't it beautiful?"

He stared. "Your life is so weird, Evy". he breathed. "As long as you are not waking from death. Ardeth will kill us both. Is that true there is a story behind all these".

"I was thinking they fought something like being a princess".

He brushes the web away from his shoulder. Jonathan never liked spiders. Ask him about dealing or something he will do, but not spider.

"What are we doing here anyway? Brushing the ancient wall? There are more people like us trying to trespass the place".

Jonathan hears heavy footsteps behind him. He's ready to reach anything that could protect him. Dakota shows up. "Your mother asked you to wait in the Temple".

"It's boring down there, Uncle Jonathan. What should I do to build a sand castle while waiting for you two to come out".

He nodded, eyes up at her. "Are we done, Evy. We better get going before something happens that I don't like to risk myself again. Never again".

"Take Dakota with you. I still have work to do".

Jonathan rolled up his eyes. "Come Dakota. Let your mother do her work". Dakota nods then follows him behind.

Temple Mummy Chamber. Day. A huge slab hits the ground. Tarantulas and scorpions free. Poison ups hiss. The room is filled with creepy half eaten mummies.

Evelyn holds a pry bar gestures at the creepy, infested room, incredulous. Her hands whip through cobwebs, which stick to her fingers, she tries to wipe them off.

"Urgh.. this place is too ancient and I love it". Evelyn grabs a torch holder on the wall and pulls it. A hidden trap door suddenly opens, revealing a secret passage. "I seem to know exactly where I'm going?"

Priest Chamber. Moments later. Evelyn sticks her torch into the room and pans it around. As the torch passes in front. Suddenly the background changes and she is suddenly catapulted back in time.

Four thousand years. The room now looks gloriously new and utterly fantastic. On the far wall, an Egyptian princess comes out of a door.

Evelyn can't see her face, but we catch a glimpse inside the room. Two huge spooky warriors stand on either side of an ornate chest.

The Princess shuts the door and turns a sundial on its face twice to the right, once to the left, locking it. She starts to leave.

Jonathan walks through her. The chamber is ancient and dark once again. He steps up to the door. He didn't see any of it. Evelyn waves her torch around, trying to get that flashback thing to happen again, looking a bit wigged-out.

He sees it in her eyes, he stops, concerned. "What are you doing?"

"Where's Dakota?"

"I ask him to stay in the Temple while I keep an eye on you". he sees Evelyn hand holding the pry bar and the other hand holding the torches. "What are you gonna do with that?".

Evelyn quickly covers with a smile. "I'm not gonna do anything stupid, Evy". She smiled. Shove the pry bar to him.

"What should I do with it?" he saw a door, slammed the pry bar into the door seam and started praying. "Did I do the right thing?" he asked her. "It's been year we haven't done such a stupid thing".

Evelyn just nods, a bit concerned herself.

"Yes, ever since we left Hamunaptra".

Jonathan starts prying again, grunting and groaning. "It's like goin' there triggered some ancient memories or somethin".

Evelyn grabs the sundial, turns it twice to the right, once to the left. The door opens. She gives Jonathan a nervous look.

"I think perhaps the answer lies on the other side of this door".

Evelyn and Jonathan slowly creep into the chamber. She turns to her left, a soldier mummy is standing right next to her. She screams and jumps back.

Jonathan instantly leaps forward and swings his pry bar, decapitating the mummified soldier mummy. Its head ricochets off the walls.

"Don't you scream like that, Evy!"

Evelyn steps up with her torch to reveal that there are actually two soldier mummies, the same spooky warriors we saw in her vision, now mummified, standing guard on either side of the same ornate chest, now covered in spiderwebs.

The gold disc from the first shot of the movie sits on top of the chest. "Oh my god, the Scorpion King".

"Who?"

Evelyn kneels down and starts analyzing the chest. "But he's always been considered a myth. No trace of him has ever been found, no artifacts, no writings".

"It's sound so bad if we took it back with us.. don't we?" Evelyn gives him a withering look. Jonathan just sighs heavily. "Can't blame that man. He warned us before".

She gives him death glare. He spits into both of his palms for leverage and grabs the pry bar. He slams the pry bar into the seam of the chest.

Dakota starts getting boring and boring. He then built the sand castle for his entertainment.

Evelyn steps up to the headless soldier mummy. A key dangles from a gold chain around its neck. Evelyn rips it off. Jonathan is still prying away at the chest when she sticks the key into it and unlocks it.

He gives her a look. "I don't feel so good about this".

"Me too, Jonathan". Evelyn opens the chest. Cradled inside it is the same thick gold bracelet we saw on the Scorpion King's wrist. The bracelet is closed tight. "Beautiful isn't it, Jonathan. Gold. Is the way you like it".

Something explodes, they heard. Dakota hears too. Rocks and boulders fly. And then raging water comes blasting through the hole.

"We talk later". quickly throws the disc into the chest, slams it shut, shoves it into his rucksack, slings the rucksack around his shoulder, grabs Evelyn's hand and runs like hell.

They arrive at the Temple where Dakota at. He shouted. "Dakota, come on! Something bad is gonna happen, leave your thing, I'll buy your new one!"

They looked at each other, panicked. Massive blasts of water suddenly gush out of every door and crevice in the place. Destroying everything.

"GET OUT!"

The scaffolding slams into a huge pillar. The pillar starts to fall. The scaffolding starts to collapse. Dakota leaps off the collapsing scaffolding and onto the falling pillar.

Moments later. Evelyn, Dakota and Jonathan survived from that place. Jonathan throws himself on the desert sand with kisses and laughter.

"We are still alive! Oh my Lord we are. We do not ever do that again, Evy".

"Maybe I wasn't focusing on the inscription on the chest. Did you see that? The water came blasting all over the place. We shouldn't survive from it. That's the river of Nile perhaps what the inscription says on".

She patted her chest. Dakota felt wonderful finally he had experience near death. "We go home. Right now.. we just destroyed the place".

Carnahan's home. Night. The family stayed in the living room. Dakota didn't say anything. Evelyn and Jonathan are talking about earlier incidents.

"That bracelet is more important that we have to keep with us. I know they will find this bracelet and raise the Scorpion King himself".

He frowned, said. "Why will they do that?"

"Because he will raise the Army of Anubis and take over the world. That's what Scorpion King prayed to Anubis. He was about to dying".

"Why?"

Evelyn sighed. "While he tried to conquer Thebes but lost despite the battle that he and his warriors carried out. The Scorpion King and his armies were expelled out into the deserts of Ahm Shere. In exchange for his life..

"and the chance to once again be a conqueror, the Scorpion King pledged his soul and a pyramid of gold. The Scorpion King succeeded in destroying the city of Thebes, but was then dragged to the Underworld and mutated into an unholy creature by Anubis himself, and the Army was ordered to return into an infinite slumber".

Jonathan feels goosebumps at the back of his neck. Dakota too. Eyes to his mother.

"If someone raises the Scorpion King. There will be a battle".

"Exactly. That is why we need to protect that chest from bad people who like to conquer the world".

Dakota yawned. He rose up and rubbed his eyes. "Goodnight mum, goodnight Uncle Jonathan". as he climbed the stairs.

"Sweet dream, Dakota".

Jonathan watches him climb upstairs, hearing the door shut behind. He looked down at her.

"You give me goosebumps about the Scorpion King. You know it. And why do we have to risk our life for that".

"That's because I have a vision. It brought me there for a reason. Something not right, something not just about the Scorpion King. I can feel something else.. Imhotep".

"Imhotep, why?"

She bite her lips. "If they want the Scorpion King alive to conquer the world, they will need Imhotep. So they need to find Imhotep's body in... Hamunaptra".

"Hamunaptra no longer exists. Not even Imhotep". their eyes gaze. Jonathan's mouth hangs open. "Are you telling me they will find his body there?" she nodded her head. "Who are they?"
