"Hi. Dakota are you?" he nods. "I am your mother's friend". She smiles widely. "Meela".
He studied her. "Funny. I didn't know my mum could make a friend like you, even Harry's mum she can't.. why you?"
"I'm an Egyptologist like your mother. Well we've met in Abu Simbel Temples. She was digging something on the wall and fell on her back. I was there and caught her". she lied, never ever she met Evelyn in person. "Clumsy she is.. your mother".
Dakota nodded again. "That's her. Why are you here? If you want to see my mum she is probably somewhere around, library or home".
"I know. But I'm here to see you".
"For what?"
She shrugged. "For fun perhaps. I already know your mother, it is time I need to know you. She never stops talking about you, precious you are, brilliant".
"I'm not interested in that excuse. I have something to do besides talking to you without a point".
She smirked, said. "Just like your father". Dakota eyed her as she mentioned Imhotep. "I know your father too. Did you know?"
"Look, lady. I don't want to waste my time talking about him. I don't care if he's out there alive, seeking for my mum and me. I just don't care. I barely knew him, not even his face. So I suggest... please leave us alone".
He walked past Meela, smirking as she watched him. This is just phase one, phase two she wants to meet the mother, Evelyn Carnahan.
Meela eyeing the children running out the building school, compared to Dakota. He's too mature to do so.
"What about you doing something else besides digging something? A teacher perhaps". said Anita suggesting Evelyn look for another job. "You can't be an explorer for the rest of your life, Evy".
"I love to explore like my father. I can't quit just like that. Oh, Anita.. do support me. I love this job".
"This is not a real job, Evy. You were exploring by yourself then when you found something valuable, you kept it for yourself or Jonathan sold it. It's kind of a big money he got from that dig".
Evelyn purred her lips. She really loves this job. "There a family needs someone to take care of their disabled son".
"Disabled?"
Anita nodded her head. She dropped the poster right in front of Evelyn. She took it and read the poster.
T͟H͟E͟ C͟A͟R͟E͟R͟ W͟A͟N͟T͟E͟D͟
ᗪᑌᗴ Tᕼᗴ ᒍOᗷ. YOᑌ ᗯIᒪᒪ ᗷᗴ IᑎᖴOᖇᗰᗴᗪ. ᑭᒪᗴᗩՏᗴ ᒍᑌՏT ᗷᖇIᑎᘜ YOᑌᖇՏᗴᒪᖴ.
10TᕼOᖴ ᗷᗩᘔᗩᗩᖇ ᑎᗩՏᗴᖇ,ᑕᗩIᖇO. ᗷᗴTTᗩᑎY'Տ ᗰᗩᑎՏIOᑎ
Evelyn dropped the poster back to the table, her eyes looked up at Anita. "Bettany? English?"
"Yes. They say their son suddenly fell unconscious on the bathroom floor. Since then he's been Tetraplegic. He's a successful and active sportsman until this".
"Why now?"
"Not why now? His parents hired more than a carer for his son, apparently he made them go away, out of his life".
"Why?"
Anita takes a drink. "He's a grown up man who doesn't like being taken care of like a five year old boy. Are you kidding? Of course he will make their life miserable and quit their job to look after him. I mean who wants to be like that".
"If that spoiled man behaves like that, why are you suggesting this to me?".
Anita reaches her hand then smiles. "Just try out, Evy. Forget all your adventures, take a new life. Who knows he might be changed as you enter his life".
Carnahan's house. Night. Evelyn sitting on the bench outside the house, staring at the night sky as her mind was thinking about earlier. This is not the kind of job she likes to do in her life.
Carer? a grown disable man. Who was she kidding?
If that man already makes someone's life miserable for the rest of their life, he will do the same thing to her. That's a tough job but not as tough as the adventures she likes to do.
"Wondering why you are sitting outside here alone". her eyes shot at Ardeth who walked toward her. "Can I join you?" she smiles, patting the seat beside her. "What's on your mind anyway?" he asked. "Is it Imhotep?".
She shakes her head no. "How do you know Egypt so well, Ardeth?" he chuckled.
"Is this some kind of trick question".
"No".
He nods understanding, as his eyes up the sky. "I was born with it. As a Medjai you should know everything around you". he turned to her. "What did you ask?"
"Did you know there was a mansion that stood on the hill?"
"You mean by Bettany's family. What about them?"
Evelyn clucks her tongue, said. "There's a poster stamping around the town about their disable son who needs to be taken care of. Someone suggested that I apply for the job. Out of my adventures''.
"I should thank those who ask you to. You should, Evy". their eyes met. "Being an adventurer or egyptologist was a bad idea. I won't mention it but you know.. it already happened before even now".
Evelyn bowed her head down, her eyes studying her feet. "You should try your luck out there".
"How is the family, Ardeth? before I go or they will do something to me. I'll be prepared".
"They're fine. Just a man who never likes to be taken care of. He likes to be alone for sure but the mother insists on putting him under someone else's care". She nodded. "I'll be watching you, Evelyn".
Same night. Abandon Museum. Lock-Nah walking through the silent corridor. It was Baltus Hafez who wanted him to talk to Meela about the earlier.
Hafez's men spied Meela seeing the boy without his order. If Imhotep finds out about this he will kill her and threaten her for harming the child.
His child.
As Lock-Nah was about to reach her door, the door suddenly swung open. Meela on his view, smirking. "What did you want?"
"Hafez's men saw you talking with the boy. What is it you want from that child".
"Nothing".
"You could be killed if Imhotep finds out". he could hear her swallow, and he spoke back. "There's no order talking with the boy. Don't let this happen again Meela or we will put you out of the journey". her eyes on him. "You don't want it to happen right? so do nothing, stay away from him".
Lock-Nah turned his feet and walked, hearing Meela slammed the door shut behind him. He turned to look over his shoulder, muttering under his breath a crazy woman.
Bettany Mansion. Day. Evelyn looked up ahead where the roof stood. The place is huge, hundreds of acres owned by the family probably.
Upper hills. Away from crowds and massive people. She rang the bell and someone answered her.
"What do you want?"
"I'm here for the job. Carer. I'm Evelyn Carnahan. I saw your poster stamping on the wall in the market. So lets say I try it out and I bring just myself as you require".
There is silence between her and an anonymous person behind these huge walls. The gate went open without her notice.
"Thank you".
Her footsteps inside the mansion, someone greeting her in a smile. Probably the butler the way he looks.
"Good morning Ms. Carnahan. I am Joe Mabre. American. We've been waiting for you".
"Owh! Y-you've been waiting?"
He smiled then led the way inside this mansion. Joe showed her everything.
"You can use anything you want in here required by the master or your personal. We also have a maid so you don't have to worry about cleaning because your job is to look after the young master".
He showed the room. "This way please and in here". he swung the door open, and she stepped inside. "She will see you any moment". Then he slammed the door shut without her word.
"Guess I was hired. I think".
Evelyn admires the place. Beautiful and clean. There was a shelf book at the end of the corner, hurriedly her feet began to reach one of the books and read it.
She didn't notice someone was with her inside this room. It was the man himself. Clearing his throat that makes her turn behind, shocking. The book she held accidentally dropped on the floor.
What Anita said about the man should be taking care of is to sit in the wheelchair, barely moving as her eyes and him are met.
"Hello, Evelyn".
"How did you know my name?"
"Overheard. Eyes and ears are everywhere. I make this clear, Evelyn. I don't need someone to look after me. I am a grown up man just like my mother, and she forgot what I am".
She nodded and he spoke back. "Do I need your help?"
"Certainly you are".
"You're mocking me!"
She snorted. "You are in a wheelchair and barely move your feet and arms. What will you do to psycho me or what?"
"I can do anything to make you quit immediately".
"Yes, right. I can push you downstairs if I like. Try to fight me if you can".
He smirking. Then the door burst open. The mid age woman with silver blonde short hair, cleaning clothes, blue eyes, pale skin. Beside her the same butler, Joe walks forward Evelyn.
"Evelyn Carnahan. Famous Egyptologist I knew from Dr. Bey. He says you're the goddess and beautiful. I am Amelia Bettany and you already meet my son, Robert Bettany. I was delighted to hear your name behind that gate. I knew it was you, finally we've met".
