PROTRUDING BONE

"My mother didn't notice the novel?" Linda asks as she walks in Cecelia's room.

"Did you wash your hands before coming in here?" She asks in a not welcoming tone.

"Is that how you are going to welcome me in here?" She looks around the room. "This room looks a lot better now."

Cecelia looks round the room too. "Yes, whoever used this room before used it well."

"It used to be my room."

She looks at her half sister in a bit shock. "Your room?"

"Yes." Linda nods. "I moved out of this room about five years ago."

"Why?" Cecelia asks again.

"Nothing, i just didn't want to stay too close to my mom."

"What type of woman is she?"

Linda smiles and sits on the bed. "I don't like to talk about my mom."

"It's fine." Cecelia sighs and joins her sister on the bed. "To what honor do I owe this visit?"

"Back to my question, how come my mom didn't notice the novel? You said she placed it very close to her."

"Yes, but apparently, your mom seem to have five different copies, so all I had to do was to pick one of the copies in her book shelf and drop it on the drawer close to her bed."

"So there is no way she would notice right?" Linda asks again fixing her eyes at the back of Cecelia's ear. She gently moves closer to her and suddenly embraces her.

"What are you doing?" Cecelia asks as Linda almost chokes her with her thick arms.

"Thank you for being good to me." Linda whispers and gently uses her fingers to observe the back of her ears, one of them happen to have the protruding bone she read about in the book.

"What are you doing?" She asks again and sets herself free. "Why did you embrace me like that?"

Linda sits, staring at who she suspects to be her half sister. "Could this lady really be my half sister?" She asks in her mind.

"What are you thinking of?"

"Nothing," she replies and smiles. "I guess I was lost for a while." She stands and charges towards the door.

"Are you sure you are okay?" Cecelia asks as she notices the change in her mood. "Why did your mood change all of a sudden?"

"I am fine, thank you." She whispers not looking at her and just walks away. In her mind, she asks, "My mom had her mistake written as a novel?"

Cecelia's room is just few seconds away from her mom's room. Without showing any form of courtesy, she barges in the room and catches her mom off guard.

"Where are your manners!" Jessie asks loudly in extreme annoyance as if something had annoyed her before.

"Where are you going to dressed like that?" She asks ignoring her mom's question.

"I have an appointment."

"You are the most terrible creature God created so far mom." Linda whispers conveying a lot of pains and frustration in her voice.

"Don't start with this now please." Jessie picks up her classic perfume and sprays some on herself.

"How come you still manage to hold your head up high when you are the definition of evil?"

Jessie drops the perfume in annoyance, and the bottle shatters on the floor. She moves closer to her daughter stepping on the glasses. "You open your mouth to call me evil when I have saved your life?"

"Saved my life?" Linda scoffs. "What are you talking about?"

"Have you forgotten ten years ago? When you killed someone and I covered it up for you?"

Linda's eyes widens, her mom still remembers the ten years case. "Why are you bringing that up again? You know what happened that day was a mistake."

"Stop using my weakness and flaws to threaten me, I might have killed four people intentionally, but you aren't different too, either intentionally or by mistake, you are still a murderer." She smirks. "We are both murderers."
