Better not disappoint me

"Teacher, please take care of our Feng Xi. She hadn't been feeling well these past few days, so if she makes some mistakes, please be a bit more patient."

"Of course, of course." Tian Yun was all smiles as he hurriedly assured Feng Xue, regardless of what he thought inside. How can he not, when the other party was being this cordial? "I'm sure that Feng Xi will do just fine. She's one of the few artists in the crew with this much experience in acting different roles."

"Uh-" Feng Xue smiled at this, and director Tian suddenly felt that she looked a bit awkward. But before he could ask any further, a sudden jaunty voice was heard from behind him, making the corner of his eyes twitch. "Look at this– Mr. Tian is meeting beauties, but still forgot to invite me."

"Ahahaha" Tian Yun turned towards the source of the voice a.k.a. the crew's sugar daddy a.k.a. Yu Xiuran, laughing awkwardly, even as he cursed the little wretch in his heart. Couldn't this thing stay inside the office and stop bothering him for a moment? And, what's with that 'meeting beauties'? Don't make him sound like some old sleaze-bag, you bastard! # `⦀′

"Not going to introduce us?" Seeing Yu Xiuran imperiously raising an eyebrow, director Tian felt discontent. For god's sake, he was the fucking director! Does it make sense for him to go around introducing people in his crew to each other? But in the end, he still obediently answered, all the while despising himself in his heart for his own cowardice. T T

"Ah, teacher Yu, this is Feng Xi acting in the role of Zhu Wanyin– you saw her at the audition that day." An understatement. "This is her agent Feng Xue. You two, this is our scriptwriter and also the investor of our crew, Yu Xiuran."

He then waited with a huge grin covering his face as Feng Xue and Yu Xiuran politely exchanged greetings, but the smile slowly disappeared as he realized that the little actress still hadn't opened her mouth. No– not only had she not talked even once, but she was also standing stock still on the spot, with a slightly spaced-out look in her pale eyes.

Seeing this, director Tian frowned lightly. 'Is she the air-headed type?' Or it can't be that she was really offended by what this guy said that day at the audition, right?

"Little Xi!" Yang Jingshen finally snapped out of his momentary trance and turned to look at his cousin, and grimaced seeing her embarrassed look overlaying a deep-hidden concern. But just as quickly, he turned back to the two people in front of him, ignoring the screen now cheerfully floating in front of him, and greeted this Yu Xiuran in a genial and amicable manner.

"Hello teacher Yu, it's nice to meet you. Thank you so much for giving me a chance to act in this drama."

"Haha… It's nothing, it's nothing. I selected you because I thought you were the most suitable for this role."

"Really?" Feng Xi looked very happy, joyous even– especially in director Tian's eyes.

"Yes, yes. I was going to give up on selecting someone fitting to play this character and was even going to let Mr.Tian choose someone he wanted when you appeared." Yu Xiuran bent towards Feng Xi and smiled conspiratorily as he winked at her. "Fortunately, you came and saved my day." ⋗⏝⋖

Tian Yun could feel goosebumps appearing on his skin as he felt the agent who had been quietly standing at the side stiffening lightly. Does this brat not even have the slightest instinct of self-preservation?

Earlier, he had hinted at this jerk time and time again that there might be a powerful backer behind this Feng Xi, so whatever ideas he had about her in his mind, he should better give it up. But, now it was apparent that this bastard simply heard his advice from one ear and let it flow out of the other ear, judging by the flirty expression on his face.

Director Tian suddenly felt very tired. Earlier, why did he even bother to advise this guy? Was he crazy? T▽T

But at this moment, the young actress suddenly smiled, her face filling with genuine warmth as she nodded her head shyly. "Teacher Yu is flattering me too much. I'm not that great, but thank you for trusting in me."

Seeing this smile akin to a blooming flower, the young scriptwriter/investor paused for a moment before waving his hand to indicate it was nothing of great concern.

***

Yu Xiuran stared at the disappearing back of the slender form of the young woman as she went inside the resting lounge reserved for artists of the crew, an unreadable expression on his face. The burly bodyguard who had been standing a few feet behind him looked at the way the young man was tapping the temple tip of the sunglasses on his lips and shifted uneasily on his feet.

Is their young master once again planning to prank someone? He always does this, when he was in a mischievous mood. The brawny-looking little Zhang was trying to stifle his curiosity as much as he could when the youth suddenly spoke. "Don't just keep it inside. If you got something to say, just say it…"

"Err… young master– didn't the director say before that this woman might have a big backer? Won't it be troublesome?" Hearing this, the other stared at the bodyguard for a few seconds until the muscly man started to squirm on the spot. "What? Did you really think I was trying to aim for her, eh?" ^_^

"We-well…"

Yu Xiuran suddenly barked out a laugh and started walking towards the parking lot, still chuckling on his way there, making a few of the passing crew members shoot suspicious glances in their direction. Little Zhang also froze for a few seconds before starting to jog after his young employer.

"Little Zhang, ah, little Zhang– you have quite an imagination. But then again, I guess I can't blame you exactly in this matter. I was just too excited when I met her and it's not like you have enough brain capacity to match your body size, right?"

The bodyguard ignored the veiled insult and smiled ingratiatingly as he started the car engine. "Young master, you know how stupid I'm right? I barely graduated out of middle school. How can I understand what young master is thinking?" ≥∇≤

"Cheh! Boot licker–" Even though he sounded slightly disgruntled, Yu Xiuran still appeared to be happy as was indicated by the content look on his face. But then, why wouldn't he be?

The only reason why this guy, little Zhang, was able to stick around this long with this high-maintenance young master was none other than his ability to suck up to him, other than the obviously strong physique.

"Then young master– are you going to coax this little miss slowly until she leaves that big person and comes to your side?" Little Zhang sounded eager.

After his last breakup, their young master had been in a terrible temper for quite some time. It didn't help that his girlfriend was also from a rich family and was quite prideful herself. In other words, she wasn't simply willing to put up with their young master's vanity and tantrums. So, it'd be best to get a kept-woman for their boss this time around. After all, mistresses are the people who know best to please a man, unlike a wife. ≡◡≡⟡

Little Zhang was fantasizing about a future where he would be subjected to less torture from his young employer, who'd get to have a nubile, gentle beauty to soothe his rages and fulfill his baser urges when a harsh rap on his head suddenly woke him up from the beautiful dream. "Aaaiyo!"

Turning his head around, he was confronted with the sight of the black visage of Yu Xiuran, making him flinch back in fear. "Young master... What didja hit me for?" Did he say something wrong?

"It's 'did you', you damned hillbilly! What kind of a country bumpkin way of speaking is that?"

"Uh?"

"Also, if you can't go a moment without saying something stupid, then shut your trap and refrain from speaking! Or better yet, tape it shut!" # `⟱′

"..."

"And concentrate on driving! If I get into an accident here– even if you sell your whole family, you think you can compensate me or my car!?" ⎺⩘⎺o

"..." This fucker!

After another prolonged silence, Yu Xiuran muttered inaudibly, almost as if to himself. "I already choose you. So, you better not disappoint me…"
