Nyrissa gave her a soft smile. “I’m always going to worry about you, sis.”
Natalie gave an exasperated sigh. “You know what I mean, Rissa. Stop trying to deflect the conversation. What are you going to do when this is all over?”
Nyrissa gave a shrug. “We’ll figure it out then.”
Her sister rolled her eyes. “You can’t keep ignoring this. Mom and Dad wouldn’t have wanted you to give up, no matter what.”
Nyrissa felt her chest tighten at the mention of their parents. Not a day went by when she didn’t miss them with all her heart and soul and wished they were still alive. If they were still alive, Natalie would be safe, happy, and not know the difference between drug addicts. She would be more concerned with outfits and boyfriends than if she was going to eat that night.
Nyrissa was perpetually broke because half her money went to her aunt and uncle 'for care and upkeep of Natalie'. The other half went to Natalie to make sure she ACTUALLY got care.
