Nyrissa had almost made it to her room, but Ryan and Quentin were faster. Ryan grabbed her hand gently to stop her before she disappeared.
Refusing to look at them, Nyrissa stopped and waited. She didn't have to guess where Quentin was. She could feel his eyes on her as much as she felt Ryan's hand wrapped around hers.
"Nyrissa. Baby, please talk to us. Whatever has upset you, we can work it out together. Let us help you!" Ryan pleaded with her.
The little sniffle she gave tore at their hearts as much as the sad droop of her shoulders did.
"I'm sorry," Nyrissa replied in a voice so small it didn't even sound like her. "I just... I just can't."
She pulled her hand out of Ryan's and closed herself in the room.
They stared at the closed door for several moments, not sure what to do.
Finally, Ryan turned to Quentin to see if he had any bright ideas. But he was just as confused as Ryan.
"What the hell was that all about?" Quentin asked quietly.
