Nightingale, the best AI

Yisi sat in the flying police car; it was still raining outside the window, exactly as he had seen it in the life simulator.

This is the second time Yisi has sat in a police car looking out onto the streets of Manyo City, except that last time, he was looking through the simulator, viewing a replay of his own death.

And now that the explosion in the Hakuba District had been stopped by the police department, the wheel of fate had been completely changed.

Yisi excitedly put his head to the window: the forest, an artificial forest made of steel and concrete; countless tall buildings like a silent beast, temporarily hibernating in this muddy land; infrastructures scaled and clinging to each other.

There is a vast holographic projection advertisement 3-floor high being shown not far from the police car, where the punkish girl with a full-body prosthetic transformation showing the two snow-white peaks of her breasts is wearing a standard smile and showing off the perfect food combinations with her own robotic arm: "Whole Food Company, diet-type chicken, buy 2 get 1 free, order now with Stella net and get free delivery service! Speeding food service, for you and your love."

Flying cars with wings and jet engines, airships plastered with advertisements, steam trams suspended by a rail system... They look like deft snakes; the headlights in the rain and mist are spitting their letters, a predator's paradise and a herbivore's nightmare.

Tick, tick, tick.

Countless tiny streams of water drop down, eventually converging into muddy rivers in the narrow bottom blocks.

"Here we are! Get out of the car!" Yisi heard Officer Zhang grumble, "I'm not a Weber driver. Do you expect me to open the door and carry your luggage?"

Yisi deliberately opened the car door slowly, pretending that the handcuffs restricted his movement; he now looked like a loser who would be scared to death by a crowing rooster.

Showing weakness at this point was a better way to leave in style later; he didn't want to be closely watched by the police; after all, who would take the trouble to keep an eye on a loser?

The police station in Manyo City was much bigger than Yisi had imagined, with giant machines of all kinds mounted on the towering walls, some of which were surveillance devices, some of which looked like they were up to no good; and howitzer-caliber cannons facing the entrances and exits of the station.

Particular light sources are used all over the station to create a "soft" atmosphere, which, together with the cold machinery, makes an eerie sense of harmony.

It was clearly a rugged fortress stacked with high-tech.

Zhang took him to a small room, which was very similar to an interrogation room on Earth, with single-sided transparent, soundproof glass, the only difference being that there were no human officers around to record statements.

"Officer Arrow Zhang, it's been a busy day. The officer's personal life-support system has alerted me that you are slightly dehydrated and hypoglycaemic, so it is recommended that you take a timely meal." A soft female voice suddenly rang out; someone was talking to Zhang through the public voice channel.

"Thanks. look, my 14th fish catch of the day." Zhang replied, and naturally, the fish he was referring to was Yisi, the stowaway.

Zhang gestured for Yisi to sit obediently in the unique chair in the interrogation room, then he pulled a sausage-sized gel out of his pocket, tore a small slit in it with his teeth, and then started sucking and sucking.

Is this the Cyber World's energy bar ... what a peculiar way to eat! Yisi looked over at Officer Zhang and suddenly found his stomach rumbling.

"I'm hungry, Officer," Yisi said.

"..." Zhang glared at him but nodded, "I have to go write up a request for food for you for the logistics department before I can give you any food. "

Zhang got out the door and said, "Hey hey hey, what's that look on your face? You're a stowaway! Federal taxpayers' money can't be wasted on people like you for this bill, which has to be paid by Whitefall!"

Yisi nodded and didn't care. It would be marked on whoever's bills; he was so hungry now that he could gnaw on a live cow twice if given one.

"Perhaps we can talk, Mr. JI Yisi from the Whitefall." The soft female voice that had just spoken to Zhang from the PA system rang out again. Still, not show herself, choosing instead to hide behind the protective shield of technology.

"Talk about what? About when you are going to release me?"

"It certainly wouldn't be hard to release you; it depends on your attitude." The lady's voice was lazy and revealed laid-back ease, like a beautifully made-up woman reclining on a sofa.

"Until then, ma'am, do I at least have the right to know your name?"

"I forgot to introduce myself; I'm a senior employee of the Federal Police; you can call me - Nightingale." The female voice said, her tone of voice very proud at the mention of being a senior employee.

"Ms. Nightingale, may I ask what your specific position is ..?"

"Senior employee is my job rank." The pride and ease that had just been in her tone disappeared, and she became very official all of a sudden.

Yisi shrugged, senior employee; that must be an unofficial name.

It seemed the Nightingale lady didn't have too meek a temper. It was also confirmed that ladies in police stations tended to be more manly than men, no matter what world they were in.

"How's the view from Whitefall?" Nightingale asked suddenly.

"I'm not very good at describing it; you can see it for yourself sometime." Yisi shrugged, knowing that Nightingale must be watching him through some kind of surveillance system, even if she wasn't showing her face.

"Then I can only hope that the Federation will be able to gain actual control and enforcement of the Whitefall Free State at some point in the future," Nightingale said.

Uh-huh? Yisi couldn't understand Nightingale's line of thinking; wasn't it just a trip to a neutral Free State, and you had to wait for the Federation to take control of one before you could go?

Suddenly, the door to the interrogation room was pushed open. The person who came was a male police officer, dressed in a crumpled police uniform, looking very tall, about thirty years old, with three-dimensional features and a manly, broad chin that made him look very different. Still, he was surprisingly bearded and not very neat looking.

The Truth of Eye said:

[Terrence. R. Lawrence, Senior Inspector, Criminal Intelligence Department, Federal Police. Has a severe smoking problem.]

"Nightingale, you had a nice chat with this friend from Whitefall?"

"Not really. He wouldn't even describe the sights of Whitefall to me."

"Forgive him; he has no record on our police system and naturally wouldn't know that you're one of the best AIs in our Federation; maybe he thinks you can go to Whitefall on leave like a normal police officer!"

"Terrence, thank you for the reassurance, although it makes me even sadder." Nightingale ended the conversation, "Re-introduce me, Nightingale, the best security Artificial Intelligence in all of the Federation, bar none."

"Okay, you are the best, I admit." Senior Inspector Lawrence smiled as he gave his colleague, whom he had known for years, a thumbs up in recognition, "Don't take offense. Nightingale's dream of going to Whitefall for once is doomed to be dashed unless the Federation can take control of your hometown."

"A sad story, I'm sorry to hear that, Ms. Nightingale." Yisi said perfunctorily.

"Perhaps we can talk about why you smuggled yourself from Whitefall to Manyo City," Terrence collected all the goodwill he had just shown, he looked menacing now, like a professional detective out of a police action movie.

"Sure. Before that, I'd like to get something to eat, is that okay?" Yisi gestured to her incessantly growling stomach, "Sorry, I'm really, really, really hungry."
