A Cute Maid’s Confession

The celebration continued, and I was asked to dance many times, but I turned them all down because I was busy talking with my mother and planning for the days ahead. Our adventure outside the gates was to take a few months, so everything had to be planned accordingly. While this would cut into my study time, I do hope to take a few books with me. Mainly a few on monsters and a few on plant life outside the walls.

While monsters inhabited a good portion of this world, according to my mother, that did not mean it was completely overrun. The reason cities like the one I live in have such huge walls was to keep the monsters out and to protect the city from monster waves that happen every once and a while.

A monster wave was when a large number of monsters rushed towards the city. It is unknown why they do this, but some people think it is due to a larger, more powerful monster with a form of intelligence sending them to poke at the cities to try to find a weakness.

Besides that, we would need proper weapons. My mother would be going with me. When I asked why she would want to go when I could probably survive on my own, she flicked me on the forehead and told me: "No mother could still be considered a mother if they let their five year old daughter run around outside the walls by themselves."

And so this was to be a mother daughter trip. My mother was so into making plans for the trip with me that she ignored my father's advances to dance. She waved him off and told him to find another dance partner. But she also mumbled under her breath, quite loudly at that, something along the lines of: "If you even think of dancing with another woman, I will cut off both your heads." I decided to pretend I had never heard anything as I continued my conversation with her.

As the night grew to a close, my mother ended our conversation by saying: "In two days, we will go to the blacksmith and ask him to forge you a good weapon. It will take a few days, but it will allow you to brush up on some immediate knowledge."

The next day started as soon as the sun came up. I did my normal workout routine, which Mimi did her best to keep up. She seemed more into her training today. I wonder if what happened with the brat from last night had something to do with it. I never did check if the girl danced with anyone. Not that I care.

After training, I went and took a bath before getting into comfortable clothes and heading to the library. Although this time, I had more company than usual. For some reason, the blooddevil imp was attached to me, and I mean literally, it was holding on to my shirt as a little child would do to their parent. "What's the matter, little guy?" I asked as I knelt down and patted its head. It rubbed its head against my hand and made a weird sound. I guess it just wanted attention.

After petting it for a little bit, it just hung around by my feet like a dog would as I began reading books. The first thing I did was look up blooddevil imps. Since I now had one, it was a good idea to see what kind of abilities they had.

"Let's see…. Blooddevil imps are C class monsters who hide in the shadows. They can meld into them and use them to travel across great distances. While in the shadows, they are undetectable, making them natural assassins. This was what I was told earlier, but is there anything else?" I pursed my lips as I continued reading. Come to find out that besides their ability to meld into the shadows, they can also bite through the necks of humans if they are faced with a frontal attack. They use their small but agile body to quickly finish off enemies that they fail to assassinate.

"So this little guy is quite the little warrior. I wonder what other monsters I can summon…. It better not be just all demons. I mean, what if I want a dragon or a dragon or a dragon….." Yeah, I wanted one of the greatest mythical creators of all time in my second life. That is, I am not so sure about this world.

"Let's see what the strongest monster in this book is…" I pursed my lips as I flipped through the pages. A class monsters, S class monsters, and then there were the apocalypse class monsters. "A Dark Lord?"

Reading the name, I looked at the illustration it had of a dark lord, and it was just a humanoid figure with a black cloak. Nothing more, nothing else. I couldn't even see its hands or face, so I had no idea if it was human or not. Even the text next to the image was not very informative. "A dark lord is a being of immense power. Those who ever come across it can only hope for a painless death."

I sighed as I read the two sentences and shook my head. "Is this a mythical creature or something?"

"Bell, something wrong?" Mimi asked as she looked up from her book.

"Ah no, I was just reading this passage about an apocalypse class monster called a dark lord," I answered as I turned the page. The next monster was very strange. It had two heads that looked like two goat heads but was also in a humanoid form and held a massive sword. "A double headed slicer, a monster who can cut whole continents in half. Its goat like appearance has appeared two times in the known recorded history and destroyed the land and created new mountain ranges and seas. It can not be defeated and only shows its head once ten thousand years." A very strange monster indeed, almost as if its job is to cut the continents in two… But it sounds more like a natural disaster, maybe? I wouldn't know since I never had to deal with that kind of stuff in this world.

I flipped through to the last entry, which was not a disaster class monster but a god class monster. In this section, there was one entry. "The God of Death….."

"A monster not known if it actually exists or not. It is only heard about in the myths and legends of the world and is said to be the sole ruler of the black void of the Crilam continent. Is the black void the massive black spot in the middle of this continent?" I guess most of these higher class monsters are just myths and legends with no actual proof.

I flipped back through the pages to find the one monster I was looking for, but it was not called a dragon but a dracosia. "Dracosia, an S class monster that can take human form. Known for its ability to wipe out entire cities. They are said to live on a large island on the other side of the world but sometimes venture to this part of the mainland with their massive monster form that can fly."

"A dragon! If they exist, that means I might be able to summon one one day?" I could only hope I was unsure if it was possible or not, but if it was, then I would be very happy.

There were many different kinds of monsters which started at F class and went up from there. There was even a creature with a gelatin like body called a blob. There were also many intelligent type monsters as well that were put on the list, one being a kobold. A dog like monster that could use weapons but was more tribal and lived in caves. But the ones that kinda disgusted me were the so called insect monster races which were just huge versions of their smaller selves. I hate bugs….

That night as I was getting ready for bed, Mimi did not leave like she normally did. "Bella…."

"Hmmm? Something on your mind Mimi?" I asked. I could tell she had something she wanted to ask me this entire time, but she had been keeping it to herself and fidgeting over it. I didn't say anything since I would not push her to ask when she was not ready. But finally, it seemed she was ready.

"I wanted to ask you a question that I know I should never ask." Mimi lowered her head as she came to stand in front of me. "I am nothing but a maidservant, and while you treat me very well. No… Well is an understatement. You treat me like your sister, your own family. And I really am grateful for that. But, I am troubled because of one person. Bella…." Mimi looked up at me with tears in her eyes. "Is it wrong to have feelings for someone you are supposed to serve? Your brother…. Ray…. I think I like him…."
