Chapter 4

Nie Yan and the bandits stayed in the outskirts of the village, waiting for the village chief to settle the matters he was given.

'I feel uneasy!'

This whole situation was a red flag. No matter how he looked at it, this was the perfect opportunity for a quest.

He could even try to form his own lore for the quest ' Bandit's that has terrorized the surrounding villages have suddenly come to shanhai town to obtain able bodied men. immortals can you help us to repel the bandits'.

Thinking of his self formed quest, Nie Yan couldn't help but agree that it could appear like that.

"Sir, it's almost time" a bandit said snapping Nie Yan away from his thoughts.

He looked to the owner of the voice and saw that it was the same bandit that wanted to knock the old man down.

Not wanting to bring back the past, Nie Yan just nodded his head and walked back into the village.

Oddly enough, the originally bustling village was now somewhat empty. Stores were closed and housed were shut tight.

"Stay alert and stay close!" Nie Yan warned. This whole situation just spelt ambush to him. Nie Yan quietly walked towards the village chiefs house while mapping an escape route.

Upon arriving at the village chiefs house, Nie Yan and his entourage came face to face with a crowd of players holding various weapons. While the old chief stood at the fore front.

"Old man what do you think you're doing? do you think that if you rebel, that it will end well for you and you're town!" Nie Yan stepped forward and threatened. With how things were going, if he was not careful he may lose his life here.

"I know perfectly well what I am doing. It is time for you're rule of tyranny to come to an end. You're endless plunder and attacks on this village would stop today."

Nie Yan stood still, ready to bolt out of there, when the sound of a sword being pulled out of its sheath sounded out. The bandit that had originally harmed the village chief had pulled out his chipped sword to fight.

With that the players charged at the bandits.

'This idiot!' Feeling the gravity of the situation, Nie Yan wasn't going to scold the bandit now. For now he had to find a way to escape with his life. If after all this the bandit was still alive, then things would happen then.

Not entertaining the thought of fight a literal wave of players, Nie Yan turned around and bolted away

Seeing the strongest in their group run, the other bandit's could only follow, with a huge wave of players close behind.

Weaving between streets, Nie Yan ran heading for the forest. Ever since he had a bad feeling about the situation he mapped out areas that he could use to escape.

After turning one more time into an alley, Nie Yan was met face to face with a wall, blocking off his oath if escape.

'This daddy will not die here' Filled with adrenaline, Nie Yan swiftly planted his leg on the wall in his left springing him to the other wall on the right. Repeating the process a few times, he was finally high enough to go over the wall in front.

By this time, the bandits and players had finally caught up, but the only thing they saw was Nie Yan scurrying away over the wall.

The bandits were filled with dread while the players were sad that the major source of exp had escaped.

If they could not have that one, then they could only manage with these poor lambs Infront of them.

Sounds of iron clashing started to resound.

Nie Yan ran farther and farther into the forest, not daring to stop for a single moment in fear that he still had some people chasing him. He only stopped to take a quick breath after he saw traces of bandit activity In the area.

'Never would I have imagined myself calling a mountain home, but home sweet home.'

With the relief of entering friendly territory, Nie Yan st for the stronghold ready to relay the outcome of the mission.

The first to notice his presence where the sentries on the watchtowers. They had seen Nie Yan walk out with a group of men for a relatively simple mission, but now he was alone.

"Hey what happened" one of the bandit sentries asked.

Nie Yan tiredly looked up with shock hidden in his eyes. He had noticed subtle signs of higher intelligence after the system announcement, but this was the first time an ordinary npc started a conversation with him.

Before he had tried to have conversations with some bandit's, but to no avail.

Not allowing his shock to show he answered.

"It's the immortals. They planned with the old village chief and ambushed us. I was lucky to make it out alive with my life" Nie Yan didn't really need to act weary and tired because he really was.

After running for close to two hours, his body had reached its limit.

Two sentries climbed down their ladder and supported his body, carrying him into the stronghold.

"Take care mate"

With the arrival of the trio in the stronghold, they quickly became the focal point of attention.

'Why were they carrying one of their brothers they all thought.'

A crowd quickly formed around the trio, launching a myriad of questions at them.

"What's the commotion all about?"

The area only quieted down when one of the captains pushed his way to the front of the crowd to see what had happened to attract such a crowd.

Whether luck or fate, Nie Yan did not know. Because the Captain that pushed to the front was the same captain that sent him on his mission.

Using the last strength he had, Nie Yan pushed off the shoulders of the sentries and knelt down to give his report.

"Sit this lowly one has come back from his mission with grave news."

Seeing that it was the thief that he had sent to get more men, the captain was now interested on why he came back alone and in a sorry state at that.

"Sir the old man and the village has allied themselves with the immortals. They ambushed and killed our brothers in cold blood"

The captain upon hearing the news was first in shock, before feeling rage.

"How dare they! You follow me" Not waiting for an answer, the captain walked away deeper into the stronghold.

'I have a bad feeling about this'
