Chapter 3

With the coming of immortals, various upper powers had varying thoughts on what this new situation had to offer.

Nie Yan sat quietly on his branch with a solemn expression on his face.

"Sigh! so it finally begins?"

A horn blew from the top of the mountain, signalling all bandit's to return to the stronghold.

Nie Yan scaled down the tree and jogged leisurely to the stronghold. He could guess vaguely why they were all being called back.

At the top, there were about thirty to forty Npc's lining up behind eight squad leaders. In front of them were the left hand man and the right hand man of the boss.

Nie Yan looked around but couldn't see the boss anywhere, so he too this time to observe the left hand and right hand men.

The left hand man was a bald and bulky man who looked to be in his mid forties. He stood at an impressive height of 6'5, dwarfing all the bandits in the clearing. He had a pretty ordinary face but a ferocious aura.

The right hand man was the complete opposite of the right hand man. Instead of being bulky like his counter part, He had a swimmers physique, with not too much muscles but not too small either. He had long black hair that reached his shoulders, augmenting his handsome face. He stood at a height of 5'10.

While the left hand released the aura of a wild beast, the right hand gave off the aura of a calming ocean.

Heavy footsteps came from behind the two lieutenants, drawing all the bandits atten. From the wooden building came a man who dwarfed even the left hand man.

Nie Yan guessed that the man stood at a height of 7'5. He had a very prominent scar that ran from his left eye to his chin. A great sword was slung on his back, almost reaching the ground. He had short black hair and an ordinary face.

If the left hand man felt like a beast, and the right hand man felt like a calming ocean, then this man would be a black hole that devours all.

His powerful gaze passed all the bandits forcing them all to their knees.

"We greet the boss!" They all greeted, not daring to look him in the eye.

Nie Yan felt nervous at the moment.

'What if he knows that I have been killing his people!?'

Nie Yan felt ready to run away if need be. Just from being in the boss presence, he felt like he was going to be devoured

"I am sure you all heard that voice in your head. I don't know what those immortals are, or what they would do. But I want our patrols to be stricter than usual!" each word he spoke traveled into the ears of all present. "I want everyone below the level of a squad leader to travel in teams of five."

For thirty minutes, the boss gave new rules to all bandit's in the area. His words akin to the law.

When he was finally done, he turned around and walked away without another word. Although he was gone, no one dared to stand up. only after the left hand and right hand man of the boss get up, did everyone finally return to their duties.

Nie Yan walked down the mountain, deep in thought.

It was only after he met the boss, did he think that he was naive before. If only being in his presence felt overwhelming, how did he plan on running away before.

While deep in thought, a figure approached Nie Yan from behind.

"Hey!"

Turning around Nie Yan was met with one of the squad leaders.

"You seem strong. Too strong in fact, almost at the level of squad leader so how is it that nobody has noticed you till now?"

Hearing the words of the squad leader words Nie Yan couldn't help bet break into cold sweat.

"Sir... I have been training alone sometimes at night for a while now but I didn't know that I had reached that level."

Spouting any random bullshit that entered his head, Nie Yan started mapping out a plan of escape if things went south.

Looking at him suspiciously the squad leader finally sighed

"Since you are this strong, it just means that we need to go into the village to get new recruits for when you reach squad leader level. Take ten men and go down the mountain. The nearest village of shanhai thats the village that you should collect new recruits from."

"Thank you sir." Nie Yan performed a ninety degree bow to show his gratitude.

Happy with Nie Yan's respect the squad leader walked away.

It was only at this point that Nie Yan truly felt relief.

'That was too close. I need to get stronger and fast.'

The journey down the mountain was very uneventful l, except for the one or two wild beast encounters.

At the village entrance, Nie Yan noticed a massive amount of people slaying rabbits and other small wild life. This scene made his back become wet with cold sweat. This scene also urged him to become stronger faster.

"Let's move!"

Ignoring the players, the bandits just walked I to the village, directly heading for the village chiefs house.

One of the bandits in the group stepped forward and kicked the door violently

"Old man come outside! we're here to collect new faces!"

Nie Yan seeing this didn't even blink. This was a new world with new rules and orders, so why should he try to go against it. Especially when he was powerless

"Great masters, please can you spare this old man for not greeting you all at the entrance" an old man came out of the house and pleaded

Nie Yan stared the man. down and suddenly felt a pang of guilt in his heart.

The old man looked to be around ninety to almost dead. All the hair on his head had either fallen off or had transcended to a color past grey.

He had a deep hunch back, which made his already small stature seem smaller.

"Ptui! nonsense. a mistake is a mistake and punishments are needed to curb mistakes." The bandit was about to strike the old man down when Nie Yan spoke

"Stop! let's just do what we were told to do and get out"

Even though he had come to terms with his situation, man couldn't change in one day or in his case, a couple of days.

The bandit that was about to smack the old man looked aggrieved but Nie Yan really didn't care.

Taking over Nie Yan asked "Old man, we are here to collect more able bodied men to fill In our ranks. prepare this before sun down today." with that said Nie Yan walked away leaving the old man to his devices.

As soon as Nie and his fellow bandit's left the village chief, hundreds of players took their place. What they were doing Nie Yan had a clue but he didn't want to dwell on it.

'I feel a headache coming up'
