Chapter five

Eren Ackerman was a member of the protectors, a group of people selected by the council of elders to protect the capital from threats within and outside the city.

There were few people in the capital who were born with supernatural abilities and the council selects a few of them and test them to see if they were worthy. Once chosen, they officially become a protector.

Eren, who happened to be their leader was born with with the ability to control fire, and he had superhuman strength. Lyra Crowman had the ability to manipulate ice. Daniel Smith had the gift of invisibility. Jade Renaldi had the gift of healing. Jacob Peterson was born with the gift of invisibility. While Anthony Cypher also had super strength.

The council of Elders consisted of old men and women that used to be protectors. They were seven in number, the protectors and the oracle. Their job was to lead the young protectors in the right way and train them in any way they were lacking.

The protectors had just returned from a successful mission, they were outside the capital fighting off some grey skins and the council wanted to compensate them.

"Jacob, for your bravery, the council would like to present you with the falchion. It was used by our previous king before he died and we believe you're worthy enough to wield this mighty weapon." He accepted the sword, looking very proud and kira just sat there, clueless of what was happening.

Lyra, you always said you wanted to be an explorer, well the council has agreed to fulfill your wish." She bowed slightly to the professor and he nodded.

"Jade, the council has decided to make you the royal healer, to serve the king and his family. Do you accept?"

"Yes professor. Thank you."

He offered Daniel and Anthony gold because they needed the money or something like that and then he called Eren. "Eren Ackerman," he paused and glanced at kira. "You'll be taking her home with you. From now on, kira belongs to you."

"What?"kira and Eren chorused.

"I don't understand, what do you mean?" Eren asked and the professor only shrugged his shoulders.

"I don't fully understand either my dear boy, all I know is that she's meant to be by your side."

Eren looked like he wanted more explanation, and so did kira. "Professor, I don't really understand what's going on?"

"With time, you will. But for now, pack your things and go with him. It's the will of the council."

"Take care of her Eren."

When the arrived at the Ackerman's residence, kira's jaw dropped. The place was huge and the inside was even more beautiful. "This will be your room."

"Wow, thank you." It was very nice and the bed was neat. She sat on it and if felt so soft. "This is amazing." She laid back and rolled around, enjoying the comfort of her new bed when she remembered Eren was still there. She sat up and he was staring at her with a smile on his face.

"I'm glad you like it." She nodded and he joined her on the bed. "Tell me about yourself."

The question made kira nervous and she frowned, unable to meet his gaze. "You don't want to talk about it?"

"I'm afraid to tell you, I don't want you to hate me." She answered without looking at him.

"I won't hate you, I promise." She didn't have the chance to say anything else because Lyra burst in, her anger obvious in her face and her voice when she spoke.

"Eren, we cannot let this girl stay here!."

"What, why?"

"What do you want from us?" She turned to kira. "Are you here to wreck havoc in our home too?!"

"Lyra!. What is the matter with you?, Why are you being so harsh?"

"I can't let this demon girl stay here."

Kira's heart sank when she heard that. Demon girl, she thought that this was her chance for a new life but her father's deeds managed to catch up to her here also.

"What are you talking about?" lyra didn't answer so he turned to kira. "What is she talking about?"

She was reluctant to answer at first but decided there was no need to hide anything. "She's talking about my dad, Garret."

Eren's eyes grew wide when he heard the name. "Draco is your father?" Kira slowly nodded and he just stared at her.

"You're probably going to send me away, right?"

He knelt in front of her and placed a hand on her knee. "No, not at all kira. I'm not going to send you away."

"Really?, But my father was a bad man."

"Yes he was, but you're not your father. You can't be punished for his mistakes."

"Thank you, and I promise you won't regret your decision. I'll be a good girl."

"That's good." He got up and ruffled her hair. "Lyra, can I see you for a minute?" He walked out and Lyra followed after throwing kira a stern look.

"She's not staying here Eren."

"Look, I know you're worried, we all know the damage her father caused when he was alive but he's dead now, and we can't just conclude that kira would be as evil as her father was."

"Did you know she killed someone?"

"What?"

"She killed a man's twin daughters just because they refused to play with her."

"That was an accident." Kira's voice sounded from behind Lyra and she turned to face her. "It was an accident, I didn't mean to hurt them."

"And the old man?"

"He was being mean to my mother!, And I didn't even attack him, I--"

"You told him to die, and he did."

"I didn't know he was going to, I was only seven and I spoke out of anger."

"That still doesn't change what you did."

"Lyra, she was just a child. You can't blame her, we just have to correct and lead her in the right path."

"That has always been my problem with you Eren, you're too kind and you always want to see the good in people, even when it's not there."

"Lyra," she stormed out, not wanting to hear anything else. "Kira, you have nothing to worry about. I'll take care of you. How old are you?"

"Fifteen."

"Don't worry, you're not your dad and I don't hate you."

"Thank you."

"You're welcome kira."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"How are you enjoying the new place?"
Very well dad. They're really taking care of me, I'm even looking more healthy than I used to.
"That's good. You're going to be sixteen in a few months right?"
"Yes. I--" she stopped abruptly when she noticed someone standing by the door. "Eren!" She knelt on the bed and he smiled briefly.
"It's okay, it's normal to have imaginary friends."
"Oh I don't have imaginary friends."
"You don't?, Then who were you talking to?"
"My dad."
"What?"
"Ever since my mom died, I've been able to talk to my dad."
"Your father, but he's dead."
"He said he's not dead, he said he's everywhere."
"Everywhere?, What do you mean?"
"I don't fully understand myself, and he wouldn't explain further."
"Okay."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Eren!, Eren!" She rushed to his room to show him the beautiful dagger she got from her father. When she got to his room, her cheeks flushed red and she turned away from him.

He was standing shirtless in the middle of the room, his hair dripping water on his perfectly built body. "Is something wrong?"

Her heart fluttered when she heard his voice. "Oh, nothing. I just wanted to show you something."

"What's that?"

"Um I'll show you later." She ran to her room to prevent him from seeing the hot stain on her cheeks.

He joined her minutes later, holding a beautiful dark blue dress. He sat by her side and she couldn't stop admiring the dress in his hands. "It's yours."

"Mine?"

"Yes. Happy birthday."

She smiled brightly as she accepted the gift. "Thank you." She held the dress close to her body and closed her eyes.

"You wanted to tell me something?"

"Oh yes. I wanted to show you the gift I got from my dad."

"From...your dad?"

"Yes. Here it is." She handed him a beautiful dagger which he slowly accepted.

"Where did you get this?" He sounded stern and it made kira frown. "Answer me!."

"I got it from my dad." Her voice was more like a trembling whisper when she spoke.

"Are you being honest with me?"

"Yes. I also got this necklace from him." He examined the necklace she wore. She also told him about the wolf like creature.

"Would you mind if I took this for a while?"

"I don't know, it's a gift from my dad."

"I'll bring it back, I promise."

"Okay." She reluctantly handed him the dagger and he left her room.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hey." He stood by her doorway and folded his arms.
"Hi."
"Would you like to go out?"
"You'd be willing to take me out?"
"Of course, it's your birthday. Get dressed and meet me outside."
"Okay." She smiled and he returned the gesture.
He stared at her, his mind still going back to the professor's words. "As delicate as she looks, she's very dangerous and if she were to fall in the wrong hands, she would be far much worse than her father."
