Chapter 2

KIEFER'S POINT OF VIEW:

I have a childhood friend. His name is Jacob King, I sometimes call him Jake.

Born on the same day and almost at the same time at the same hospital, you could say we've spent our entire lives together.

Although we have been close to each other since birth, we are entirely different from each other.

"Jacob, go to the board and solve this. This is a difficult problem, so it's okay if you won't get this right," our teacher said and tapped the board with the back of his fingers.

I watched Jacob go to the board and hold the chalk. He stared at the given problem on the board for a few seconds and then started writing without even pausing for a second.

Jacob is the smartest person I know.

He's good at maths and sciences, and guess what? He's even good at languages.

Most people assume that those who are good at maths and sciences suck at languages, but that guy can speak three languages fluently since childhood.

He didn't specifically learn them for academic purposes, but he was forced to learn them because of his family's origins. Regardless of that, Jacob literally broke the norm.

Hehe. He's so cool, right?

"He's insane. How could he solve it like that when our teacher just said that it's a difficult problem," my seatmate said as we watched Jacob transfer to the other side of the board to continue solving for the answer.

"That's Jacob for you," I smiled as I put my elbow on my desk and rested my chin on my hand. "Honey eyes for your boyfriend, huh? It must be nice to date someone so smart," he said as he shook his head while smiling.

"We're not dating, though?" I said as I gave him a confused look.

Maybe because we're always together that other people think we're dating. Plus, the fact that I'm an alpha and he's an omega also plays a big factor in that.

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say," he chuckled at what I said.

Well, they're just joking so I guess it's alright. Jacob doesn't seem to mind too.

Jacob boxed his answer and turned to the teacher. "I'm done, Sir," he said and then started walking back to his seat.

Jacob was still wearing his usual stoic face that only changes whenever he's around me. And even though he's expressionless at the moment, he still looks as good as ever.

Jacob is someone who looks like an "unapproachable ice prince" according to my classmates. He has straight and shiny jet-black hair, upturned blue eyes, a tall and narrow nose, thin reddish lips, and a slightly angular jawline.

Although he's not growing anymore (haha), he's somehow getting sparklier with each passing day. It's kinda like, if you see him, you just couldn't help but glance in his direction. That kind of sparkly.

And though he's on the mysterious side because he seems unapproachable, I actually like that side of his because if he's like that, then that would mean I'm the only one who knows him best.

If you put us together, there is a perfect balance in our characters. He's quiet and mysterious, while I'm a loud social butterfly.

We fit just right, I guess?

The day finally ended after our teacher explained Jacob's answer. Just as I had initially expected, his answer was correct without any form of error.

"Can you teach me math later?" I asked as I put my arm on his shoulders as we walked together, now heading to the new cafe in the area.

"Since when did you want to start studying properly?" Jacob chuckled upon hearing what I said. "Since today?" I said while smiling.

Honestly, I just wanna hang out at his place. His house is a lot bigger than mine, you see.

"Just say that you just wanna hang out at my place," he said and elbowed my abdomen. "Ouch!" I groaned as I pretended to be hurt.

As expected, he knows me best too.

"What a lousy actor," he said and gave me a you-suck-so-bad look, his eyes looking at me as if he was laughing and his lips curved into a smile.

"Maybe we're actually brothers. How do you know so much about me? You even know what I'm thinking," I said as I jogged in front of him to stop him from walking.

"Even brothers don't know what their brother is thinking. Did you think siblings' minds are connected to each other?" he scoffed as he walked past me.

"Then, that makes us more than brothers!" I laughed as I took big steps to catch up to him. "What exactly is being more than brothers?" he chuckled.

"Uh..." I paused for a while, wondering what I even meant by that.

"I was just saying whatever came to mind," I shrugged and just laughed it off.

While we were joking around with each other, we finally arrived at the new cafe.

It was a small cafe with some fake vines on the glass walls to create a cottagecore vibe. I couldn't quite make out how the outside of the cafe looked because there was a huge crowd outside, but I could certainly say that from what I have seen so far, this cafe looks pretty decent.

"Do you still want to come in?" I asked as I turned my head to him to see his face. "Are you kidding me?" he looked up at me with a serious face.

"Of course, we have to go in!" he said in a determined voice. "Just look at that cake over there," he said as he looked at the strawberry shortcake that one of the customers seated outside the cafe was eating. "Doesn't that make you want to eat an entire cake?" he continued as he looked at me again.

Uh... not really. But...

"Let's find a way to get in, then!" I smiled at him.

Looking at him like this makes me realize again how much he loves sweets. He could never live without them.

But for him to be able to eat them right now, I guess we'll really have to do something about the crowd of people in front of us.

As we stood in front of the cafe, wondering how we'd get in, a couple who had just arrived was let inside even though a lot of people were already waiting before them.

"The couple right there just walked in so easily. Maybe there's some kind of VIP pass to get in," I said as I looked at them with envy.

Haaa... It must be nice to be rich.

"No, dumbass. Look at that sign," Jacob said and turned my body sideward so I could see what he was referring to.

'Tired of waiting? Bring your lover and get 25% off!'

"Wow, they're really discriminating against singles like us," I jokingly said as I frowned, acting as if I was offended.

"Then, let's not be singles for today," Jacob said as he looked at the cafe. He then looked up to face me, and I swear I could see the fire in his eyes when I looked at them.

"We're going in, babe."
