Chapter 29

"Just stay home. Let's not go to the arcade with the guys."

They just finished eating breakfast and decided to change the sweaty sheets on the bed. Kiefer's brows raised as he looked at Jacob who was helping him change the sheets.

"What? Why? You should go with them," Kiefer quickly said, not even thinking about what he said even for a second.

"You're still unwell. I'm not going if you're not there," the omega responded as he flattened the bed sheet.

Kiefer didn't know what to feel. Honestly, it was nice seeing Jacob make new friends since he rarely talks to their other classmates, but at the same time, he couldn't help but feel a little giddy that he was putting him above everyone else.

'It's like he's saying that I'm the reason why he wanted to go in the first place,' he thought, trying not to smile.

"You sure?" Kiefer said as he looked down, avoiding Jacob's eyes so he wouldn't find out what he was actually feeling at the moment.

"Yeah. Besides, I still have to go through some drills. Exams are next week and Leo isn't coming over anymore," Jacob said as he faced Kiefer.

The alpha flinched upon hearing Leo's name, remembering what he did the last time he saw him. 'Right... I still haven't apologized to him yet,' he thought to himself, the guilt not sinking into him more.

"I have to study alone now and honestly, I barely have time to hang out," the omega said as he sat on the bed. "I just thought I had to go since I've never really gone out with friends before and well... it's not like I couldn't manage to free a day or something," he continued.

It was quiet for a few seconds until Kiefer decided to speak.

"So, uh... I was wondering, are we good now? I mean, are you not mad anymore?" Kiefer said, feeling a little shy for asking him that.

Jacob let out a sigh and just stared at him, making Kiefer feel more conscious.

"No, not really. You still haven't done that one thing I've been waiting for," the omega said while looking straight into his eyes.

Kiefer averted his eyes and looked down. It even felt awkward to sit on his own bed.

"Will there be tutoring soon?" He asked as he glanced at Jacob and looked back down right away.

"Unfortunately, since the exams are next week already, Leo ended the tutoring session that day 'cause we have to have enough time to go through our notes and study on our own," the omega responded as he stood up from the bed.

Kiefer raised his head when he saw the omega stand. He looked at him with curious eyes, asking where he was going.

"I just remembered I still have to go to the bookstore today. I'm going home," Jacob said as he nodded at him. He then proceeded to walk to the door while Kiefer just watched him, not knowing what to say to him.

But as Jacob held the doorknob, he turned his head and looked at Kiefer. "If you wanna apologize to him, it's best that you wait until after exams. Leo's away for a seminar until next week," he said before going out.

Kiefer just stood in the same spot for a few seconds and let out a heavy sigh.

'I can't even do anything right...'

Kiefer spent the next hour spacing out in his room. His head was filled with several thoughts, all of them related to Jacob.

Suddenly, he remembered that he hadn't informed his friends that he and Jacob weren't going yet. The alpha grabbed his phone and checked their group chat only to see that they were already informed about it.

And the source of the information? It was Elijah.

"It just had to be him," Kiefer grumbled and let out a sharp breath.

He sent a message to their group chat saying that he and Jacob wouldn't be able to make it even though they already knew. After he did, he put his phone down and felt an uncomfortable feeling crawl up in his chest.

'There's no point in denying it. I'm jealous. And I seriously wanna know what's going on between them,' Kiefer thought as he sighed sharply.

"When did they even get that close?" He mumbled to himself as he slumped in his bed.

'Let's see... Jacob and I were practically strangers in middle school because of a fight. Is that when it all started? Or was it last school year when the two of them became classmates?' Kiefer thought, trying to figure things out by himself.

'But Jacob doesn't even get close to people easily. Why does he seem comfortable around Elijah?' The alpha's forehead creased.

"Argh!" Kiefer groaned as he quickly sat up, causing him to feel dizzy.

"This is so annoying," he sighed as he held his forehead.

'But what's more annoying is that I've never even acted this way whenever I had a crush on someone before,' he sighed once again.

Kiefer turned his phone on and put it on 'Do Not Disturb' so he wouldn't get any notification that would distract him.

He began looking his situation up on Gxxgle, wondering what he should do after finding out that he was, in fact, crushing HARD on his childhood friend and best friend.

The alpha's palms were starting to sweat and his heart thumped rather louder than normal with anticipation. His body turned a little stiff as he bit his lower lip while trying to formulate the question he wanted to ask.

However, Kiefer's shoulders slumped when he saw the results once he finally looked up what he wanted to know.

There were a few people who were in the same situation as him and had the same questions as well. Their concerns were all answered in Qxxra and Rxddit, and the answers?

Of course, nobody recommended trying anything.

After all, those who experienced the same situation before ended up drifting apart with their "best friend."
