Testing

They just sat in silence before Arthur asked again.

"So, what happened after I left last night? Does it have anything to do with why you're acting so strange? " Inquired a curious Arthur.

"Yes, I think," replied Marcellus, feeling complicated about the whole situation.

Marcellus then started to explain what transpired after Arthur got caught. How he met a girl, how they fought each other and how he woke up and things changed. He also told him about his 'superpowers' and how everyone else is really slow.

"You have superpowers?" Arthur exclaimed after hearing Marcellus' story.

Even though Marcellus was feeling overwhelmed by recent events, he's not suddenly an emo who can't have fun. He is still a teenager, y'know.

"Yeah, it's pretty awesome, huh?" said Marcellus with a proud expression.

"Can I see?" asked Arthur in suspicion after calming down a little.

Arthur doesn't know what happened but, what if this is just a cover story or something? Maybe he just didn't want to say what was bothering him? Or maybe he actually had superpowers, who knows?

After Marcellus agreed to show him they both went to Arthurs back yard. Marcellus then stretched and got ready to run.

"I've been trying to slow down since getting this power but I've never seen how fast I can go, so I'll try that" stated Marcellus as he got in a sprinting position.

"I still think you are messing with me but here goes nothing, 3..2..1..GO" said Arthur.

As Arthur said go, Marcellus pushed off the ground as hard as he could, he started running at a speed faster than any sports car. Although, Arthur didn't have a big enough backyard for Marcellus to run for more than less than a second before almost crashing as he caught himself on a fence.

Marcellus then jogged back to Arthur, which once again took less than a second. Marcellus wasn't out of breath or even slightly tired after crossing what should be 100 meters!!!!

"..." Arthur just stood there with an expression of disbelief. His best friend actually had superpowers!!!!

"Hahahaha, you should see your face right now, once you pick up your jaw I have something important to tell you."said Marcellus in a half-joking tone.

After a few more seconds Arthur recovered, then he pulled an Arthur.

"So does that mean you could give me a piggyback ride faster than any car I own?" questioned Arthur with an excited gleam in his eyes.

"...Technically I could, but no, not happening, ever." said Marcellus firmly.

"Okay, so what is the important thing you wanted to say?" asked Arthur after he calmed down a bit.

Marcelllus smirked and said," I can go faster".

!!!!!

"Okay, we have to test you, you came for the car and company, so let's go to my mom's place."

"Does she have a big yard or something?" questioned Marcellus as he had never been there before.

"Yeah, something like that" replied Arthur in a mysterious tone and with a mischievous grin.

"..." Marcellus didn't trust the smile on his friend's face right now.

After they called an uber they arrived at Arthur's mom's mansion. Arthur's parents weren't together, it was a drunken one night stand for both of them. Years later, Arthur's dad won a custody battle because his mom was so busy at work. They both loved Arthur and she wasn't a bad mom, just really busy.

"...You said house, this was a freaking mansion!!!!" said Marcellus in awe and incredulity.

"Hehehe, c'mon let's go" was the only response he got.

Arthur then grabbed his key and unlocked the door. As they were walking in the house Marcellus looked around in marvel.

"My mom has this really big basement that nobody can enter except us, it has all the things we need to test your speed." Arthur stated as he led them to an elevator. When they got out, they were in what looked like a lab, gym and beauty salon all in one.

Arthur then brought them to a treadmill and grabbed a tablet. After he tapped the tablet the treadmill started to move slowly.

"This treadmill was designed to go at a max speed of 2x the speed of sound, so you can go at your fastest speed, unless that happens to be faster than that, in which case don't please" explained Arthur who was impatiently waiting to see something you'd only see in movies.

"...Okay, huu, let's do this" Marcellus exhaled a breath and physced himself up to get ready as he waited for Arthurs signal.

"Once again, 3..2..1..GO" screamed Arthur in excitement and anticipation.

Marcellus took off like a bullet!!!!

As he saw the treadmill keeping up with him he slowly started to let loose.

200…..300...400...500...600...650 kilometers per hour!!!!

Arthur was in shock and awe at this display.

'He is still running. Can he go even faster?!!!' Arthur thought in amazement, as he started recording.

Meanwhile in Marcellus' mind…

'I can feel something, something wanting to be let loose but it's bound by chains' thought Marcellus, going into a trance without noticing.

'It's risky but… he trailed off as memories of his earlier conversation with Arthur came back to him.

He then broke the chains, shattered them entirely!!!

His body started to emit red flashes of electricity. His mind was able to process the speed at which he was going in a different time field now.

For example, when a human runs as fast as they can, they are fast enough to not be able to see beside themselves. Marcellus, even at his ever growing speed now can.

'Faster' thought Marcellus. 700…'Faster' 900…'Faster' 1100…"FASTER" Marcellus screamed out with all his might, as the electricity crackled around him with an ever growing violent and furious speed. Then when his lightning was almost covering his whole body…it thundered!!!

*BOOOOM*

Marcellus managed to run at the speed of sound!!!!

He then tiredly slowed down, as he came to a stop, a gleaming Arthur came to give him a water bottle with a look of shock on his face. He will probably never forget this for as long as he lives.

*Pant* *Pant* *Pant*

"Thanks.." said Marcellus struggling to breathe.

"So, how did I do?" questioned Marcellus as he calmed down and drank some water.

"...See for yourself" said a speechless Arthur as he handed the table to Marcellus.

Marcellus then watched the video and the faster he saw himself going the more disbelief he felt, then he saw lighting sparks surround him he thought he looked really cool. He also thought that was what the chains were holding back.

He then had to squint as the sparks got brighter then he heard a ground shattering boom and saw his speed.

"...I..b-broke the sound barrier?" asked Marcellus with a look of utter disbelief.

"Yup, saw it myself" said Arthur as he puffed out his chest as if he was the one who did it.

Marcellus' eyes sparkled like a little kid meeting their hero as he said," Awesome".

"Why do I feel so hungry though?" Marcellus asked Arthur in puzzlement.

"I don't know, maybe you used a lot of energy to run really fast, but anyway what do you wanna eat?" Arthur asked as he pulled out his phone.

"...You" replied Marcellus as he looked away.

Arthur felt a shiver crawl up his spine.

"..."

"..."

"..I'm straight" Arthur said before taking two steps away.

"Huh, so am I, I literally meant you look like a juicy stake" started Marcellus as he looked at Arthur like he wanted to bite him.

Arthur thought about it and then he came upon a look of realization.

"When we went to the woods we were looking for a body drained of blood, you said the girl you saw bit you, so could you be a—-"Started Arthur.

"Vampire?" finished Marcellus as he thought of the possibility.

"Vampire?" Arthur said again. He seemed to be in deep thought before he made up his mind.

"..."

"..."

"Only one way to find out, follow me," said Arthur with a smile.

"Please don't be a vampire" Marcellus wished as he followed.
