LUNA'S POV
After a shower, I decide to rest my aching muscles. I lie down in my room which I ensured was dark by not turning on the lights or drawing the curtains.
I find an eerie comfort in the darkness. It makes me feel better. It clouds the real world. I don't get to see the ugly face of reality. Reality which I can't handle.
Malik hasn't showed up ever since I saw him after the fight. I have made an effort to tuck the strange text to the back of my mind. Rook and Scarlett set out to find Mia who has not been seen since morning.
I try to sleep and rest. But it seems fruitless. I sit up straight. I bring my knees to my chest and hug them.
Another thing about sleeping is the presence of nightmares. Nightmares pull me back to that past I try to run away from. I always find myself screaming whenever such nightmares occur. In these nightmares, my demons try to pull me down with them by making the happenings of my past worse than it actually was
A soft knock at my bedroom door pulls me out of my reverie. I turn on a lamp by my bedside. I climb out of bed and walk over to the door. I open the door to find Scarlett.
"What's the matter?"
I ask.
"We found Mia and she wants to see you."
There is a look which crosses Scarlett's face.
"Something I should be worried about?"
I ask. Scarlett finally lets her eyebrows crease in worry.
"She... doesn't seem to be in her right frame of mind."
"What is that supposed to mean Scarlett?"
"I mean she just isn't normal."
I sigh.
"Where is she?"
"She is at the health care unit with Mason."
Mason is the pack doctor. He is extremely good at what he does.
"Okay. Give me a minute."
I hurry back in and grab a black cotton sweater. I quickly put it on and grab my phone. I turn off the lamp and head outside.
Scarlett and I make our way to the health unit. Places are chilly, thank heavens for the sweater.
When we finally arrive the health care unit, Hazel, my gamma is already there. She hurries over to me.
"We need to help her Alpha, she keeps crying and doesn't want to talk to anyone."
I am led to the room where Mia is kept. Inside, Mia is pulling frantically at a cuff which binds her to the bed. I turn to Hazel.
"Why the cuffs?"
"Well she was going crazy when you weren't showing up. We had to tame her."
I let out an exhausted breathe.
"Undo the cuffs."
Hazel obeys and removes the cuffs.
Mia stares at me through teary eyes. She stretches her arms forward motioning I should come. I take cautious steps towards her.
"Alpha...my Alpha..."
Her eyes turn brown like the color of her wolf's. Her claws come out.
"Run Luna!!"
Scarlett warns but is too late as Mia jumps on me and sinks her claws into my stomach. I let out a growl as I feel the intense pain which knocks me on the ground. Mia repeats the action of clawing at my stomach. The pain almost makes me feel numb. I watch as her claws disconnect from my body with my blood smeared on he hands and dress.
I start feeling dizzy. Mia raises her hand to strike me but is pulled off me as two wolves lunge on her. Hazel and Scarlett literally rip Mia to shreds. I feel my surroundings swirl around me as I feel my mind give way and my sweet darkness takes hold of me.
NEXT DAY
WEST FIELD HEAD QUARTERS
LEVI'S POV
"Do not send the pack warriors out without my consent."
Nicholas, my advisor says. Nicholas is in his late forties. His sunken eyes appear sharp as he always scans his surroundings. His hair, which is grey and he has dyed black, is gelled back. His once strong and broad build is slowly diminishing as time goes by.
"But it was important."
I say. I honestly hate Nicholas and his nagging. I just have to play along in order to maintain my position and please these dimwits I have as pack members
"That is no excuse, Levi. Do not let me revisit this subject."
I stare at the marble countertop of his kitchen. The smell of oranges is evident. Nicholas has a thing for those. His two girls, Cami and Lorraine are playing around in the backyard. They can easily be seen through the glass door which leads to the backyard.
"I hope we understand each other now."
Nicholas says causing me to look up at him. I put on a signature plastic smile of mine.
"Yes sir."
I respond.
"Is that all?"
I ask for good measure.
"Not really. There is another crucial subject I wanted to address."
Nicholas answers. I prop my elbows over the countertop and stare up at him. He clears his throat.
"I need a drink."
He says and goes to the fridge. He opens it and start rummaging through.
"Want anything?"
He asks not quite invitingly.
"No thanks."
I say making my voice sound calm while deep down, impatience is killing me.
He pours some orange juice into a glass and sips generously. He comes to stand close to me. I don't change my position.
"As you may know it the festival is coming up. Everyone is waiting for you to reveal your powers as the Oracle. You will have to make your first revelation."
I internally cringe at the idea. Needless to say I am not the gifted one between Luna and I. The rest of the pack mustn't know about that though. This is why I chose an easier way.
"Levi, the pack is looking up to you. You are our Oracle. You are the one to make a difference."
Nicholas adds. I look up at his taunting blue eyes.
"I am completely aware of my duty towards the pack."
"We have waited for years for your power to manifest."
I raise an amused brow.
"What are you getting at?"
"What I'm getting at is quite clear isn't it? Where are your powers?"
There is a moment of silence where I just stare at Nicholas. He doesn't break our stare down either.
"Nicholas. I am the Oracle of West field pack and the only Oracle there is. There is time for everything don't you think? Besides, who told you my powers haven't manifested? An Oracle doesn't flaunt their powers carelessly need I remind you. Everything concerning the Oracle must be sacred."
Nicholas downs the rest of his drink and keeps the empty glass on the counter.
"Well said. Till the festival then."
He says fixing me with a kind of suspicious look. I am sure it is people like Nicholas that will betray me one day.
I grin and stand up.
"It was nice having this talk with you."
I give him a firm handshake.
"I'll get going now."
I say. Nicholas nods. I look at the children who are playing with the hoes in the backyard.
"Take care."
I say and leave. Once I step out, I bring my phone out and call Niko. He picks up after the first ring.
< Wassup?>
Niko asks.
I hang up and get into my car. I roar the engine to life and drive off.
