She moved her head. He'd lied to her before, and if she gave him half a chance, he'd lie to her again. And she'd fell for it, sucker that she was. I guess she hadn't learnt anything from her blunders with Jason.

She was going to learn from them now, dammit it.

Her frenzied breathing was soothed by the resolve. When he motioned for her to follow, she backed off, putting out a hand. "Look, I know you're busy here, so I'll leave you to it."

“No. Jessey, you're a jerk!"

The dreaded door was almost her undoing. Jessey could feel Charley approaching her as she fought it open, as if they were linked by some strange force. But it was nonsense. Nothing connected them but a series of terrible mistakes.
