Fei Chen and Bai Gui were sitting peacefully on the back of the golden eagle. After a week of flying on the demonic beast, they had finally reached Greencloud city.
Before one would go to the Continent's Capital, one would never know of its flourishing prosperity. Fei Chen was surprised but not overly so to see many Xiantian cultivators gathering here; due to his background, it was a common sight for him as well as for those who grew up in one of the strongest sects of the Greencloud continent.
Many Xiantians found their means of subsistence in big places or were summoned away. In the current nine continents, masters were gathered there. The more prosperous the place was, the stronger the clans and families were, and the more powerful they would grow.
They seemed to land on a huge square in the continent's capital. Fei Chen scanned the enormous wide square that held a common name, Greencloud Square!
Taking a quick look around, Fei Chen guessed that it had a perimeter of dozens of feet. Huge beasts gathered here continuously, while other flying beasts either landed or took off from here.
Huge beasts, whose names Fei Chen didn't even know, could be seen flying across the sky. No one knew how many elites, clans, and families were on this continent. As they say, "the greatest hermit will retreat into the noisiest fair."
Standing in the air, the view of the terrain distribution in the Continent's capital took Fei Chen's breath away. It was remarkably enormous, vast, prosperous, and filled with thousands and even ten-thousand-year-old streets. There were many simple yet magnificent architectural creations. The majestic presence was preserved despite the changes in time and was still just as awe-inspiring.
Bai Gui, standing behind him, helpfully started explaining about Greencloud Square to Fei Chen after looking at his fascinated expression.
"This is the boundary of Greencloud City. There are five more places like Greencloud Square and many smaller Greencloud Squares. There is one of this size on each side of the country, the largest being the one in the core of Greencloud City. Bigger beasts are not allowed to stop at busier places, but Greencloud Square allows bigger beasts and vending carts to park. It is also an important symbol."
Bai Gui finished and brought Fei Chen to an area with many carriages.
Meanwhile, Fei Chen was inwardly thinking.
'Canghai Mingyue, she should now be in Greencloud City. I will visit the Canghai family upon my return; after all, Canghai Mingyue's father was my father's senior brother.'
Canghai Mingyue was the first noteworthy woman to appear in the story, with both beauty and talent capable of being called a daughter of heaven. Fei Chen wanted to meet her, but his cultivation was too low right now, so the best time to meet her would be once he had reached the peak of Xiantian or, better yet, the Martial King realm.
"Elder Bai, where can we buy seeds for spiritual herbs? Do you have any good places in mind?"
Fei Chen's main objective for coming to Greencloud City was to purchase seeds, so he wanted to get it done as soon as possible.
"Hmm, there is a famed spiritual herb market in Greencloud City, where we can buy all kinds of seeds. Even spiritual herbs of jade grade are not impossible to purchase there."
Fei Chen was astonished; after all, jade-grade herbs were those that had aged for more than three thousand years. Usually, these kinds of herbs were treated as family heirlooms; nobody in their right mind would trade them for money.
Looking at Fei Chen's shocked face, Bai Gui smiled; with wrinkles around his eyes, he looked like a gentle and benevolent grandfather.
"Little master need not be surprised; these merchants and traders are part of the hidden ancient clans and clans from the Central continent. Otherwise, would anybody allow them to sell such treasures in broad daylight? "
Fei Chen nodded upon hearing Bai Gui's explanation. Selling such precious treasures without getting robbed, these people needed to have at least Martial Saint realm cultivators guarding such establishments.
After riding in the carriage for about two hours, they reached their destination. Alighting, Fei Chen immediately smelled medicinal herbs; there were all kinds of shops lined along the wide street. There were one-story shops at the beginning of the street, but as one went deeper, the number of floors increased, with the highest building being a ten-story-tall pagoda. On the tallest building, there was a plaque carved very flamboyantly with the words "Nine Continents Medicinal Hall."
Fei Chen was gobsmacked.
'How can there be there be a "Nine Continents Medicinal Hall" here, this does not make any sense!?'
Fei Chen having such a reaction after seeing the name was only natural. It should be known that whoever or whatever faction was capable enough to have "Nine Continents" in their name was an apex power standing at the very top of the Kyushu world. The original protagonist could only interact with such establishments at the end of his cultivation journey.
"Elder Bai, to which power does that tallest building belong?"
Bai Gui, hearing Fei Chen's question, had a pensive look on his face.
"Not much is known about this building, as it only appeared around a decade ago. All the sects in the central region have tried to figure out their background but have only come up empty-handed. The majority of people believe it is guarded by a fabled Martial Emperor realm expert. The only way you will be allowed entry is by depositing a precious-grade herb or if you are a Martial Saint."
Bai Gui explained; from his expression, one could see that he has also failed miserably at gathering any information about the establishment. With him being the Shadow Corps commander, it was quite a blow to his ego. Sighing, he beckoned Fei Chen to follow along.
Fei Chen and Bai Gui stopped in front of a six-story pagoda building with a plaque carved with the words "Heavenly Medicinal Hall". Fei Chen felt that the words were quite familiar, mainly the style of carving, like he had seen them somewhere before.
"Oh, I see now! These are carved by the same person from the Heavenly Palace!"
"Elder Bai does this place....."
"Indeed, this medicinal hall belongs to the Heavenly Palace."
Bai Gui smiled at the boy, before entering through the front door.
Walking up to the receptionist, he showed the token of the Heavenly Palace patriarch given to him by Fei Mingzi. The receptionist immediately straightened up and gave Bai Gui a ninety-degree bow. He did not doubt the token's authenticity, as there were only two kinds of people who could hold it: those who had killed Fei Mingzi and taken it from his corpse or his family and disciples.
Fei Chen was inwardly berating himself for not thinking about it; after all, with the Heavenly Palace's ten-thousand-year history, how could they not have businesses in the capital of the Greencloud continent? He just shook his head inwardly.
"Supreme Elder, how may I be of service to you."
"I need seeds of every variety of medicinal herbs you have right now. Are there any precious or jade-grade herbs available?"
The disciple, a peak Xiantian cultivator, acknowledged Bai Gui's request. He asked them both to follow him to the highest floor of the building, where they were greeted by an emaciated old man who was sitting with his eyes closed; if not for the movement of his chest, one would think he was dead.
"Elder Lou, someone is here with the patriarch's token."
The old man opened his cloudy eyes; he looked at Bai Gui and recognized him immediately, but looking at Fei Chen, his eyes shone momentarily before returning to normal.
"Token."
Bai Gui just showed him the token, to which the old man just nodded and closed his eyes again. Bai Gui then looked at the receptionist. The man looked middle-aged, but Bai Gui could guess his actual age by feeling his vitality, which was quite low. Disciples who do not have any hope of reaching the Martial King realm often opt for being sent to manage the businesses owned by the Heavenly Palace, as only by reaching the Martial King realm and becoming an elder can one vie for more resources for cultivation.
"You may leave."
The man obediently bowed and left the three, going back to his duties.
Bai Gui and Fei Chen headed for the Treasury, located at the end of the hall. Entering the Treasury, both of them felt refreshed and rejuvenated just by breathing in the medicinal scent.
"Little Master can take anything from here. If you do not know about any of the herbs, you can just ask me."
Bai Gui just stood at the entrance after saying his part. Fei Chen was mildly overwhelmed looking at the treasury; there were all kinds of herbs in there, from hundred-year-old Lingzi to thousand-year-old blood ginseng, and there were even spiritual fruits that increased a child's talent.
He looked at a corner where there were a variety of jade boxes piled neatly on a wooden shelf; nearing the corner, he saw the names written there, which were quite exotic, with white lotus seeds and thousand-year-old plum blossom seeds among the few he examined.
Fei Chen felt his mouth dry; this was too much. He was finally able to experience what it felt like to be a rich second generation.
In the end, he took the big jade box, which was provided by the receptionist. He kept inside it a few seeds of every variety he found in the Treasury and precious-grade herbs, which included thousand-year-old blood ginseng, thousand-year-old purple bamboo, and thousand-year-old golden Lingzi, among others. As for jade-grade herbs, he could only find one stalk of an unknown herb, which was kept inside a specially crafted jade container. After acquiring all these herbs, he was prepared to start his path as an alchemist; the only thing he lacked right now was a cauldron.
Stepping out of the Treasury with a smile on his face and a spring in his step, he informed Bai Gui that he was done.
"Elder Bai, I have everything I need, but I still need an alchemist cauldron."
"No worries; you can choose one from the fifth floor."
Fei Chen nodded, and they passed the old man who was guarding the entrance.
Once they had disappeared from his view, the old man opened his eyes. His eyes were no longer clouded but shone with wisdom gained over the centuries of his life.
'Must be patriarchs descendent. That old fellow must have high hopes for the boy to give him the token. I hope he is not like that brat, Fei Haoyu....'
Thinking about Fei Haoyu, the old man named Lou could only shake his head and sigh in pity.
.....Scene Break.....
Fei Chen had gotten a red copper cauldron. With him just starting his alchemy practice, he wanted to start with the most inferior metal possible, as this should help him in refining his alchemy techniques so that when he refines pills in a cauldron made of rare metals, it will give him more benefit.
After Fei Chen had assured Bai Gui that he had all the things he needed, both of them then headed to the second floor for lodging for the night. They would be leaving Greencloud City early the next day, and even though Fei Chen wanted to explore the city, he knew his priorities.
