What's That Sound?

The road was still unfamiliar after Dongman displayed so many symptoms of urgency, but he knew he was in the right place when he saw the big white SNU model sign. He paid the driver from the money he took around, and when he turned back, he was fascinated by the size of the school and also uncomfortable.

It was way different from what he had in Chamsari. There, there was a small space to study and not many students, which meant everyone knew everyone, but here was the exact opposite. How was anyone going to be found here? Without realizing it, Daehuyn's head spun with questions, making him feel like the air was thin and the world was moving on his own. Without realizing it, Daehuyn had a panic attack. He crotched down to the ground, getting his breathing in check like he was taught. He listened to the breeze, the way the trees and bushes here moved, the subtle sound of a metal bird flying across the blue sky, and once he was calm, he stood up.

He looked around at the students that stopped looking at him. There were a few groups of girls among them. If anyone should know Hana's location, it should be them. Daehuyn took a deep breath and walked up to them and asked for Hana. They all giggled and ran away, very strange.

Back home, the girls were very straightforward and always looked you in the eye when you spoke. He had never heard that kind of noise from a girl before and wondered if they were broken as they hurried away. He moved further to ask other people if they knew or had seen Moon Hana.

After encountering a few more groups and other individuals, Daehuyn was either given a direct answer, "No," or he would be totally ignored. It was clear now that the people here knew nothing about the young woman, so Daehuyn decided to look inside the campus, not holding on to the fact that he might get lost too.

Daehuyn put on a black face mask as per his training before he ran into the building, unsure of where to go, so he opened every door he saw. He ran from hall to hall, from one club room to another, from the library to the cafeteria, from the lecture lounge to the school's field. Daehuyn had possibly entered everything building in the school.

Tired Daehuyn sat in front of one of the school's buildings. He had no luck locating Hana. He didn't even bump into Soyoung. Was she really looking for the young lady? Daehuyn fell back into the stairs resting, looking at the sky, and just when he was about to give up, he heard a noise or rather a sound. An unfamiliar one, but it sounded like music, just not the type he was used to. Drawn to the sound, Daehuyn picked up his jacket and walked toward where the catchy sound was coming from.

He walked till he reached what seemed like an abandoned car park. Daehuyn hid by a wall as he tried to get a closer look at the people playing the strange song. Just then, one of them started counting.

"1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4 and 5 6 7 8, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8..." They kept going. Out of curiosity, Daehuyn peaked his head out from behind the wall as he saw that the kids there were dancing, moves that were also unfamiliar to him, but he watched closely.

He couldn't see everyone, but the ones he saw he watched, and before long, Daehuyn found himself moving to the music. His steps were odd and awkward, but he found it enjoyable. He tried to do what they did, and when he couldn't, he began to freestyle, using his traditional dance to fill in the song. Unknown to him, one of the dancers had spotted him from the side and notified the others.

Normally they would turn off the sound, but when they saw this strange man dancing with passion, they all went closer to take a look. He was agile and flexible and light on his feet, exactly what the dance club needed to make their performance fire, and as soon as the song ended, he struck a pose. He must be a big fan of Kpop then.

Daehuyn finished, happy that even in his time of frustration he was able to let loose, but when he turned back to pick up his jacket again, he saw no less than 8 pairs of eyes watching him, one of them being Hana.

"Young miss---," but before Daehuyn could say anything, the others started.

"Wow, dude, that was epic."

"Seriously!"

"Where did you learn to dance like that?"

"You have to introduce us to your dance teacher. That was sick!" They were all saying strange words, according to Daehuyn, till Hana spoke.

"What are you doing here?"

"Miss, Soyoung said you were missing so..." Daehuyn trailed when he saw Soyoung come out the back of another wall.

"My bad new blood, it's a code we use so Hana can get some time to herself. The Chairman is very strict on her timing." Daehuyn stood there defeated. He had spent hours running from one place to another for someone that wasn't even missing.

Angry and disappointed as Daehuyn was, he kept his emotions to himself and walked away, but not before one of the dance crew members stopped him.

"You can't leave yet. You still have to let us know where you got those sick dance moves from."

"I'm not sick, so if you would excuse me, I need to go," the unknown guy said, putting a hand on Daehuyn's shoulder.

Daehuyn took one look at him, snatched the hand on his shoulder, and kicked both his knees, forcing him to go down before jumping over him and releasing the arm he held. Everyone was so stunned that even as Daehuyn left, everyone stayed quite a in shock. It was only after Kang Joon grunted in pain that everyone ran to him.

"Kang Joon? Are you okay? Does anywhere hurt? Is your arm okay? Say something?" Different questions were being thrown at him.

Hana was terrified; on the one hand, she was worried about Kang Joon, and on the other, she was worried about what Daehuyn would do and say, possibly to her father; he should never find out. Hana looked at Soyoung, who knew what she was definitely stressed about, and followed Daehuyn.

"Hana?" Her group member called.

"Who was that guy?" Min. Seul asked. Hana got herself back and went straight to Kang Joon, first apologizing.

Hana apologized. "This is all my fault. He's so stupid. I'll make sure to teach him a lesson and make sure he never says anything about this," Hana said, apologizing.

"Hana, calm down now. Who was he?" Kang Joon asked again, but Hana was adamant about answering. The rest of them stared at each other. Tension filled the air as everyone stood confused.

Soyoung caught up to an emotionless Daehuyn walking aimlessly because he didn't even know his way back. Soyoung called out to Daehuyn a few times but he would not answer. Finally, when she caught on to his jacket, Daehuyn finally turned around.

"For a 6-foot-tall man, you have really long legs," Daehuyn looked at Soyoung before continuing. She tugged on the jacket again, trying to get Daehuyn's attention.

"You have to understand that this was all just a misunderstanding. I didn't know you weren't told about the young lady's peculiar interests." Daehuyn looked at Soyoung like she had grown a second head.

He had just possibly run a cross-country looking for the young lady around the school. He ended up dancing to a strange song and after finding the young lady, it was all for nothing. Everything was already planned and only he was fooled and Soyoung wanted him to understand. Daehuyn wasn't having it.

"Ya! Daehuyn, answer me!" Soyoung raised her voice, but Daehuyn remained quiet.

"Okay fine, I apologize on Hana's behalf. Okay, I'm sorry," Soyoung started saying. "Just don't tell the chairman about this."

Daehuyn looked at Soyoung one more time before walking away, leaving the jacket in her hands.

"Ya, ya! Kim Daehuyn! I'm still talking to you!" Soyoung was left screaming by herself.

Eventually, after a few hours, Daehuyn found his way to the front of the school just as Hana was coming out, escorted by Soyoung, who was walking behind her. Soyoung opened the door as Hana was about to enter, her eyes met with Daehuyn's emotionless ones. Soyoung looked, and on seeing Daehuyn, she hurried towards him, not minding the tension between the two.

"Ya Daehuyn, let's go home. You won't be able to find your way back," Soyoung said.

"Unnie, let's go." Soyoung broke eye contact while getting into the car. Soyoung looked between Hana and Daehuyn. She opened her wallet and put some money in his pocket to help him get home as she dashed back to the car.

Daehuyn watched as the car he had arrived in rolled away from him, feeling a feeling that he couldn't explain but knew for sure, he was done working for the Moon family's heiress.
