Chapter 69 I can only kill you if I don't help you! (Rewritten)

Ares, the god of war, was born of Zeus and Hera, one of the twelve gods of Olympus, and the half-brother of Diana, also known as Wonder Woman. He often meddles in the human world, inciting wars.

The more he utilizes his power to cause war, the stronger he becomes. He was also among the gods who fought against Steppenwolf during his previous invasion of Earth.

It seems that not only humans but even gods tend to engage in conflict once external enemies are vanquished. As the story goes, Ares began to clash with his father Zeus. After poisoning humanity and slaying the gods, Ares met his demise when Zeus sacrificed himself, using all his strength to defeat Ares and imprison him. Zeus left behind a weapon capable of killing Ares, the Amazonian sword known as Excalibur.

Trapped on Earth, Ares spent centuries plotting wars and amassing power. During the First World War, he manipulated both sides, intending to destroy mankind and plunge the Earth into perpetual conflict.

The notion of eliminating all the gods and killing Zeus sounds impressive, but it's rather far-fetched.

The sudden appearance of Eris, the goddess of strife, proved that the gods were clearly not dead. Although Zeus, the old trickster, was dead, real death and feigned death are not always one and the same.

It is highly likely that they are attempting to feign death through the hands of Ares, in order to avert events like the emergence of new gods—the true crisis that could destroy the gods.

But regardless, for Diana and Donna Troy, Ares, the god of war, remains an immensely formidable opponent.

Under the cover of night, a nimble and agile figure swiftly traversed the rooftops, arriving near the battlefield in no time.

Diana and Donna Troy rose defiantly, observing their disheveled appearances, preparing to resume the fight. Just then, a figure descended from the sky.

"Stephen!"

Diana frowned upon seeing Stephen standing between them and Ares.

"So, he's Stephen? The Stephen who enslaved Paradise Island and took you away?" Donna Troy recollected Hippolyta's words about Stephen and felt a sense of elation upon spotting him. "With his help, we can defeat Ares."

"He is not a virtuous person," Diana murmured in a low voice, her expression complicated. She then raised her voice to address Stephen. "What are you doing? This is my battle!"

"Come on, darling. This can also be my battle," Stephen chuckled lightly.

Diana snorted. "You don't need to concern yourself with my affairs."

"Well... I'm here to assist him," Stephen pointed at Ares.

"..."

Diana, Donna Troy, and Ares were stunned.

"You... came to help me?" Ares pointed to himself in disbelief. Suddenly, the cars nearby levitated, hurtling towards him. In the process, these objects transformed and merged, as if attaching to Ares' body, forming armor.

After a while...

It appeared as if Ares, donned in the sacred garments of a Saint Seiya, was clad in armor and wielding a colossal axe. The eyes in his helmet seemed to emanate a menacing light. "Do you think I need your help, kid?"

"I believe you do!" Stephen affirmed solemnly.

"Really? Then tell me, why would I need you, a worthless human who can be crushed at any moment when they aren't even the least bit of a challenge for me?" Ares gazed at Stephen coldly.

"Because..." Stephen spoke slowly, the wicked grin on his face growing more pronounced.

"There are likely very few humans on Earth who can match your speed, but in my eyes... you're too slow. You can't harm me, not even with my armor..." Ares stated arrogantly and sarcastically.

Upon finishing his words, his eyes widened as if something was about to leap out. In the next moment, his body recoiled, and a punch shattered the armor on his chest.

How can this be?

Feeling the force in the punch that seemed capable of piercing his armor, Ares looked at Stephen in disbelief, violently propelled backward. As he flew, a hand seized his face, slamming him down.

Boom!

Ares, caught off guard, was instantly slammed into the ground, creating a crater. The impact sent shockwaves rippling through the surroundings. Diana and Donna Troy instinctively stepped back, incredulously witnessing the astonishing scene.

"Because... the only way I can kill you is by not helping you! It's your choice," Stephen bent over, squeezing Ares' face. The helmet's cheek guards cracked and pressed against his face, making it difficult for him to breathe. The armor on his body shattered into pieces with a loud crash.

Unbelievable, inconceivable!

Ares couldn't speak, but his eyes expressed shock and confusion—why?

"By the way, I didn't catch what you said earlier. My speed is too slow? I even acquired your armor... what were you saying?" Stephen suddenly smiled, lifting Ares with one arm.

Wow!

Fragments of the armor fell to the ground.

"How can my speed be too fast for you to perceive, yet I managed to defeat you?" Stephen squinted his eyes, holding Ares and turning to face Diana and Donna Troy, a smile playing on his lips. "If the things that pique my interest start to become dull, I don't mind abandoning them halfway. I want to make this more exhilarating. If I don't help you, the only option left is to kill you and put an end to it."

"Now..." Stephen looked into Ares' eyes, each word enunciated slowly. "Do you still need my help?"

Can you say no?

Though Ares couldn't comprehend how a puny human possessed such tremendous power, he strongly felt that refusing would mean his own demise—and I mean truly being killed.

Even if he is a god!

"Need... need..." Ares reluctantly uttered.

"That's right!"

Stephen beamed and released his grip, allowing Ares to collapse to the ground.

"Cough, cough, cough..."

Coughing, Ares reluctantly removed his helmet, and the ghastly wound on his face slowly healed.

"It's you... yes, it's you..." Ignoring Ares, Stephen pointed at Donna Troy, smiling. "From now on, you're up against me. Are you planning to fight me seriously or lend a helping hand?"

"Now... what's going on here? How did we even get to this point?" Donna Troy gazed at Diana in bewilderment.

Diana shook her head. She hadn't anticipated Stephen would employ this approach. But it was just like him. After all, he enslaved Paradise Island for the sake of riding a horse or out of fear of mispronouncing an incantation. He had slain Eris, the goddess of discord, so it wasn't incomprehensible for him to offer assistance after defeating Ares.
