Chapter 12: Awkward

Selena's POV

Home sweet home.

It was already 1am

I punched in the password of the door and rested on the wall a bit before opening it up. The stairs were really stressful and the elevator just loves the word out of order. It was perfectly fine this morning. My left hand got swollen from the intravenous drip, so I couldn't even hold the railings. I walked in and I saw Lexi, Fred and Lia talking to a police man.

I closed the door and they all looked my way.

"Selena!"Lexy shouted and jolted to me. I knew she wanted to hug me so I quickly shouted

"My hand's broken"

"Where have you been? See… we thought you were kidnapped. " She said pointing to the police man. "We traced your phone to the middle of the road but it wasn't even there. We went to the police but they said it's wasn't twenty four hours yet. I had to talk to my father before I could get a police man here. You know my number by heart. Why didn't you call me. Do you know worried I was" Her eyes watered up and Lia came to hug her and led her to the couch where the officer was still seated.

"Umm… Officer, we have found our friend. Sorry for the inconvenience." Lia said.

"No problem. It's my Job. You ladies continue to take care of each other. I'll be going now" He waved us bye and Fred walked him to the door.

I walked to the couch and sat beside Lexi. I glanced at all their worried faces and smiled at them.

"I'm fine everyone really. I'm sorry for making you worry."

"Where are you coming from?" Lexi asked.

"The hospital ofcourse. Remember, broken arm."

" How'd you get it?" Lexi sniffed and cleaned her tears, shifting closer to me

"I got hit by car today. " I said and she looked at me in shock. "My phone got broken, so did my laptop. The good news I have today is that article was chosen by sun magazine and the money has been sent with a bonus. Thankfully the person that hit me was a gentleman. He paid all the bills " I said smiling at her.

Her eyes got teary again and she almost pounced on me for a hug.

"Broken arm" I shouted and she laughed between her sniffling.

"I'll get going now then. Get well soon Selena." Lia smiled at me.

"I am really sorry for the trouble she must have caused you" I apologized to Lia

"See you tomorrow Lia" Lexi said.

"Bye" Lia said and walked out.

Lexi and I both turned to Fred.

"Fine. Fine. I'm going to. Victoria should be waking up for her visit to the ladies. Get well don Lena." Fred smiled.

"I definitely have to. See you around."

"Bye."

"Selena… it wasn't a meeting today. It was a blind date set up by my dad and urghh….. he's so f**king cute and hot. My dad finally nailed it. I love his accent. I love his habits. You haven't seen him eat so you'll think I'm crazy." I could see love written in her eyes. I laughed and just stared at her. She's just twenty two and they want her to get married already. Well, I'm destined to be single and rich. I'm actually only sure of the single part right now.

"What's his name?" I asked

"I'm not telling" She smiled as she passed me a glass of water.

"I'm not going to look up his number on your phone and he's obviously way out of my league." I emptied the cup.

"I know. I just don't want to tell his name for some reasons." She said

"Then… Make sure you tell me on time."

"Promise" She placed her palm over her chest and I laughed.

My head was pounding. My mouth still had the after taste of the pain killers I had yesterday. I forced myself out of bed after looking at the alarm clock. The stupid thing didn't ring. It was already afternoon. I walked to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth. I was planning to go back to bed but my stomach just had to grumble. I walked to the kitchen and heard someone humming. That's new!

"Alexis? Lexi...What are you still here? It 2…. In the afternoon and, it's Monday. Is today supposed to be some kind of national holiday I don't know about?" I asked resting on the kitchen door.

"Gosh, you scared me. Why did you walk without making a sound?" she held her chest.

She walked up and placed her hand on my forehead

"What's going on?" I removed her hand from my head.

"Your face doesn't look so good."

"I woke up with a little headache. I'm fine"

"okay…" She smiled at me and poured a cup of water on the Kitchen workplace. "Drink up"

"So why are you still here?" I took the cup of water.

"Why did you scare me?" She stuck out her tongue

"Me first." I gave a quick fake smile and she stuck her tongue out again.

"Cause I'm living in the same house with the famous Summer." She smiled the squatted down. "Ta-da!" She jumped up with a bucket of JFB chicken.

"Why are you excited I'm Summer? And who's Famous?" I asked but my eyes was glued to the bucket.

Is today really some type of national holiday I don't know about?

"Switch on the television. You'll see" She sang and carried the heavenly bucket with her.

I followed the bucket instead of checking the television. She dropped it on top of the dining table and my mouth dropped down in shock. She made me the perfect heavenly lunch. The table was packed with almost everything I dreamt of eating at once. She even bought stake from the famous Heir restaurant. What exactly is on the news?

I walked to the living room and turned on the television.

"Recap of the hottest news at 7am. Famous unknown online writer, with the penname Summer , owner of Love not war blog wrote an article on women's empowerment in today's copy of the sunshine magazine which had been on the top 5 searches in the politics and business world since 3am today. Today we have with us Jerry Grynhall, the editor in chief of sunshine magazine." The anchor said I collapsed on the chair. What did I just hear….. Top 5 searches. My mind is about to explode. I was no longer listening to the new but when I heard Mr. Grynhall's voice. I looked at the television again.

"Sunshine magazine has always been on the look out for excellent works and writers. Summer first debut in the circle four years ago was also with Sunshine Magazine and this is currently our third article with the person. We won't disclose the author's identity but, I'm pretty sure she has already received a mail of becoming one of our full time writer. If you haven't checked your mail summer and you are listening to this, come down to the magazine's headquarters. A desk is waiting for you " Mr. Grynhall said.

"Your group has decided to give Summer a job offer. Amazing but why now? Is it because of this world shaking article?"

"This isn't the first we've given Summer a job offer. After her first article with us, we also offered a part time job instead of the contract job she has with us."

"She declined?"

"Sadly, Yes."

"You've heard it Summer. This isn't part-time or contract. Your article has gotten you a stable high paying Job in one of the country's biggest publishing company. Congratulations" The anchor said.

I changed the channel to the writers channel.

"The title is quite captivating. The people she interviewed are quite interesting. We all know ladies are really limited to things from of old because of our nature but the story of the girl Xiao is really beautiful…." Whitney Porch said. Whitney Porch is actually commenting on my article. I think I'm going to have an heart attack.

"Summer… I'm going to be guessing is a woman because this is really well expressed. Her description are filled with the right amount of emotions. Anyone can talk about nature and age been limitations and all but it is difficult to find good stories, you can easily find stories like …. A woman been forced to be an housewife, a woman not been able to go to school and all…. But, her stories, those people she interviewed mist have been through a lot , Xiao , Ami and Terry… she  expressed their stories well. Even if she made some of them up, I'm pretty sure a woman out there has that story.." Skyler Smith said.

Her British accent which was to die for if you listen to her voice messages on online. She's the author of the Trump series  SHADES OF LOVE, SHADES OF SIN, SHADES OF FREEDOM. Best series ever and she's stalking about my article.

I screamed out loud and Lexi rushed in.

"Hey! We have neighbors you know…"she scolded me and I rushed to her hugging her with my left arm. I smiled like a woman after seeing her first child come to life …. Even though this was like my two hundred and something article.

"You know…. You are Ami right?" I asked

"Yes… I remember I said what you quoted. It was really beautiful. I also read on the sunshine magazine webpage that your article would stay on it's front page for the entire week and you'll be paid bonuses and base fees for the entire week" She said opening up the webpage on her phone. I miss my phone. Sigh….

Everything she said is as it is written. I imagined the amount in my bank account now. I can pay off a big chunk of my loan now.

"Alex!!!!!!!!!  I'm so happy" I shouted.

Ding dong! Ding dong!! Ding dong!!!

"I'll get it, Happy pants" Lexi patted my shoulder

"Thank you, your royal highness" I said giving a little bow and laughing.

Alexis walked over to the door and I walked to the kitchen. My heavenly bucket still awaits devouring. I was about to take a bite when Lexi yelled my name.

"Selena!!!!"

"I'm coming" I almost cried out. I had to drop the divine drumstick. The pain and sadness!!!!!!!!!!!

I walked to the door and I saw Norman through the pin hole. What's he doing here?

"He says he wants to speak to a Selena Jones. Does the loan sharks know this address?"

"No, he's not a loan shark. You can let him in."

"Okay" She said and opened it. "

"Norman! She yelled in shock.

"Miss Krystal?" Norman said surprised

"Alexis?" David said stepping behind Norman. He wore an army green tuxedo, with no tie this time and the chains and sunglasses made him like one leader of a gang. It was a really unique style for someone to wear on a thursday afternoon. I didn't realize I was smiling and Lexi has been whispering my name.

"Selena," she said out loud.

"Yes," I immediately looked at her. Then I looked at Norman and David.

"Please come in" I said to them and lead the way. This is so awkward. Lexi knows him and his secretary. Weird.

We all took a seat as we got to the living room. It was really awkward. David was checking the house out and Norman was just smiling at us. Lexi looked at me and I looked back at her while taking a few glances at David. No one can blame me, he's so handsome today.

"I—" I said

"We—" David said

"How di—" Lexi said

"Miss—" Norman said

At the same time. I can feel the room temperature dropping.
